Met Bernie in Chicago at the Cotton Club when he walked in and performed at an open mic and he killed it that night. Had all of us on the floor dying from laughter. I followed him outside to the parking lot after he left the stage and talked with him to tell him that he was going to be a huge star and that he was crazy (LOL). He said to me "thank you lil brother, it's a tough business and I appreciate you saying that". We shook hands and I returned into the club not realizing that he was going to be more successful than I'd predicted. Rest easy brother and thank you for following your dreams and making me proud to have met you and predict your success before it took place. 🕊️🙏🏽👏👏👏💫
Yeah, you know I’ve heard him tell this story before! There is an old clip here on YT, from what looks like a comedy special where he talks about being “in Chicago at the Cotton Club” and “a bug-eyed, Urkel-looking ninja” that kept following him around everywhere making predictions. He did say though that he owed all his success to you because he had never really believed he would make it until he “shook that creature’s ashy little claw” and he had a vision of his future fame. He seemed to be under the impression that you were some kind of mythical African genie-like entity that “granted his wish” with that handshake. It wasn’t all positive however as he did say also that “after meeting that smoky, black goblin” is when he developed a persistent cough and had to start using an inhaler. So, in a sense; his meeting you was his key to fame but also doomed him to a premature death. I know this must a terrible burden to bear; but I’m sure no one out there actually “blames” you for assassinating Mr. Mac. Please use your ancient powers more responsibly! 🧞♂️

This really breaks my heart to hear. My daughter is 14 and she rarely misses a day from watching The Bernie Mack show. Yesterday we had it playing the entire day. Never knew the King but we miss him as if he was family. That was definitely one of the best shows of our time

This breaks my heart man. I never knew about him needing oxygen on the set. Bernie Mac is the greatest of all time in my opinion and I don’t use that lightly. Guys like him Martin, Murphy, Griffin are once in a lifetime talent.
I’m also a Chicagoan so Bernie Mac was like everyone’s uncle. It’s like he represented us. It still makes me tear up knowing that Bernie Mac still had more to offer.

I lost a dear friend to Sarcoidosis. It's one of those conditions that plagues Singer Angie Stone as well. The doctors have asked patiests if they live around a lot of trees because the conditions has allergy symptoms..its kind of like Lupus. 😢😢 rip Bernie❤❤❤ I used to help my friend by reading up on it.

I think we all miss Bernie. It was so sad when he passed especially since most of us did not know about his illness. The Bernie Mac show was very well done and a fresh feeling comedy in a crowded field of sit-coms. Jeremy and his sibling were really good child actors and I'm glad to see him doing well. It would be great to see more of Jeremy on the screen.

I remember hearing it on the radio! My grandma was a huge fan of Bernie. We both watched the show religiously, our stomach cramped because we laughed so much! When he died, it’s like comedy died. Such a sad loss!

Bernie Mac is my favorite comedian. Every person that speaks about him, speaks so highly of him. That says alot about his character and the man he truly was. My Mother passed away from Sarcoidosis. It is a very painful and horrible toll on the body. He was truly one of the Kings of comedy. Gone way too soon. ❤
