I've been listening to Alive III a lot lately. I love the heavier sound that Bruce brought to those classic songs, even though I prefer Ace.
I love all Era's of Kiss, and think the Carr/Kulick era had some awesome musicianship. I do think Ace is of the "Less is More" Lead style that was popular in the 70's, while Bruce was more of "Shredder" like Vinnie Vincent and Mark St. John, shredding being a hallmark of the 80's.
I saw revenge and was quite pleased with his playing for sure but I like lazy Ace cause Paul n gene would be pissed at him hhhhhhha
How can you possibly prefer Ace over Bruce Kulick. Ace doesn't even know what he is playing in this video. That is the worst version of Love Gun that I have ever heard. Because of Ace, he even played wrong notes.

@@gregsuperguitarsawnick4653 He doesn't rehearse for it like Bruce. He probably hadn't played his solo in a while. It's easy to learn someone else's shit, but the people that write it forget it too. It's about rehearsing for the gig.

Bruce here sounds awesome. Ace sounds great doing the add libs during the Rythm as he did back in the day. His lead sucked. I'm a diehard Ace fan but I call it like I see it. He got me playing as well as thousands.

Just saw Ace a month ago at a new performance venue in NH. His band was really great. Ace however is a shell of himself... It was to be kind... bad...

Bruce is a great guitarist. I love how he played the Paul Stanley rhythm parts while Ace did the solo (although I would have preferred to hear Bruce's solo!).

As a life long KISS fan, I’m not sure if I’m disgusted that Paul Frehley couldn’t remotely play his solo or extremely impressed that Bruce Kulick (who’s been playing with a very different band for years now) plays the solo part note for note perfectly in time….. two greats, one is obviously greater than the other now 🤷♂️

Es cósa de ver cuán inflamado tiene el hígado, lo hinchado de su rostro, síntomas que dan cue ta de una intoxicación metabóloca tremenda. Agradezcan que está en pié y sigue recordando viejos tiempos. Qué curioso porque al menos el que sigue recordando y tirando ''pedradas'' es Ace a éstas alturas de la vida, entonces al parecer le sigue importando KISS y cómo lo echó a perder. Por cierto, se equivoca mucho en sus últimos toquines, parece que tocaba mejor ''bajo los influjos'' y está más delgado de hecho, ya casi no está hinchado.

Why not have them both
Ace Frehley has declared over and over again that none of his replacements have been as good as Bruce. Bruce can never have Ace's legacy, but as a player, you couldn't ask for a better, more balanced package.
He had the attributes of a classic player, but evolved just enough into technicality to make for a great overall outcome. He wasn't too dated and he wasn't too shreddy. Always balanced.
And he's also been a classy gentleman, responsible adult who didn't drop the ball due to partying and he has a great resume, from Meat Loaf, to Michael Bolton, and all sorts of cool things in between.

@Gman's Gnarly Science Show imma have to disagree. Criss has a lot of trouble playing on time. I'm a drummer and will occasionally play to kiss songs and there's some parts that I always end up going a little off beat with when it's a criss track, at least the live recordings. And ik its not me because I've gotten compliments on my rhythm from every band mate I've had and I play along to drummers like Neil peart and sugarfoot who are known for their impeccable timekeeping, so ik it ain't me
@@FiveStarHobo Criss definitely deterioted after his Car Accident int the late 70's, and even intentionally slowed down shows to "a crawl" in the 78-79 Dynasty era, because he "Didn't care anymore." However, he could keep time when he wanted to, and was a Jazz drummer who studied under Gene Krupa himself, FOR FREE because young Peter fascinated Krupa with his abilities.

@catman it's beyond dreadful. Not that he was ever a virtuoso by any stretch, but he is a mere shadow of what he was in, say, 1977.
I always looked at Keith Richards as an evolution of Chuck Berry, and I looked at Ace as an evolution of Keith Richards. He was slightly more technically skilled and much more aggressive, but still predominantly stayed rooted in those minor pentatonic box shapes.
He now plays like someone who has a neurological disorder.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. He's truly legendary, but all the years of drug and alcohol abuse have wreaked havoc on his fine motor skills to where his phrasing and accuracy is badly affected.
Something similar happened to Jimmy Page by the end of the 70s.
I'll never deny the greatness of Ace's contributions. I fucking love him, but his playing has seen better days.

I think in terms of guitar playing, bruce is better then ace, but in terms of kiss and kiss sound ace triumphs all the way

All of the drugs and alcohol have messed with Ace's playing. He was never really a good guitar player in the first place. I'm a huge KISS fan and love Ace. But he never had it. Most of the songs on the albums he "recorded" were done by someone else (i.e. Bob Kulick and others)

I love Ace Frehley. His contributions spawned and inspired generations of players. But if ever you need to see a first-hand example of how alcohol and drug abuse damages neurons and impairs fine motor skills, Ace and Jimmy Page provide perfect examples.
Both saw serious alterations to their phrasing and picking accuracy when it comes to fiery leads. I will always love Ace and give him his due, but his picking and fretting hands are badly lagging, he hits several notes out of key here and, above all else it just isn't his finest work, at all.
He's aging. And eventually all of our heroes decline in skill as senior citizens on the stage. Nolan Ryan couldn't hit the pitcher's mound today and perform like he could even 10 years past his prime.
Even George Lynch is hitting the aging curve. I've seen a half dozen recent performances where his playing is altered from the ferocity it once had.
We see it in the aging singers too.
On one hand, I'm glad we still have our heroes still up there doing it, but on the other hand, it's hard for me to watch and listen to when they struggle to play what they used to burn through effortlessly.

We really have to give Ace a break being in a professional band takes stamina n hard disciplined work he deserves the right to semi retire !!!!!! And ya one of his worst performances I've heard but it's Ace I don't care at this point how he's playing its just Ace !!!
@@zandig666 I watched a recent performance where Knopfler attempted his Sultans of Swing solo, and it was so sad to see him struggle with the hand strength and accuracy. We all get old. It's a part of life, but it hurts to see our heroes move way past their prime
