I’ve had this thrown at me before. I called the person out for being incapable of supporting his argument since all he would do was resort to ad hominem attacks or tell me to “use that thing between my ears”. I got tired of the discussion because he obviously wasn’t willing to converse like an adult and wanted to act like he was somehow superior for not condescending to support his point of view and instead throwing insults. We could have had an interesting conversation, but he was more interested in seeming superior (it wasn’t his job to teach me; he would have to charge if he was going to teach me) than having a mature conversation.
I’ve gotten to the point where if someone tells me to educate myself (particularly if they refuse to supply specific sources), that they are just being insufferable and trying to “win” the discussion.

They had a female commentator (who was disliked for many other reasons by many but for some it was purely getting beat by a girl) and at the start of every lobby she would mute all of her team, and the enemy team. I see plenty of male streamers in the game do the same thing. Nobody wants to deal with a crybaby teammate who spams voice commands or screams into the mic every time he dies. Or an enemy who spam laughs.

I used to not be a gatekeeper, because my general thought process was the more the merrier. Which was fine, for a while. But as these companies chased profit after profit as they all do, all of the things that I grew up with have been corrupted to some degree because of trying to include everyone, for that ever increasing profit for their quarterly reports.
To be clear, I'm still not actually a fan of gatekeeping. If someone, man, woman, or trans person, wishes to play games or read comics, then I genuinely welcome them, IF they are genuine about said entertainment for what it IS. However, if their goal is to come in, take what they like, then alter what they don't like to suit their desires, then they can straight fuck off, and I'll gatekeep all goddamned day long.

I've been in a few game chats, though. And, when compared to CoD and similar chats, the ones I was in, could be described as "Teddy Bear Tame", only because everyone in it was just THAT chill and laid back. I This female obviously did not play shooters in the late 90's early 2000's, cause back then it was worse than now. You now have companies trying to stop it and have calmed it down more than it use to be ever. I remember parents trying to get certain games banned let alone gta 5 online. it's always been bad cause you have freedom of speech in most of the countries these people are from that we able to kill with on the games. like this is the softest era of video games i've seen in my 41 years of life.... When I was 17 I worked at a nursing home. That was a female dominated space. Never was there a more toxic place. The things that were said and done all would have necessitated a human resource intervention. But alas, it happened to a male by females. I can go on and on about the inappropriate behavior.
I work in a bakery. Also female dominated. Co manager of the store, who is also a female, walked in one day and asked the bakery manager what she was working on. My boss had been making some cakes for a display and replied as such. The co manager says to her, in front of me, “Big daddy will like this! Well. I can’t call the head boss of the company big daddy but I do.”
Not only did she recognize she shouldn’t be saying this. She doubled down on the fact she was going to still continue to do so. If I came in and called my boss “Mommy” I don’t even wanna know what would happen to my job when I know they fired an older male Marine vet for putting his hand on a lesbians shoulder. He put his hand on everyone’s shoulder but apparently only she was sexually assaulted by it.
I used to temp at a company and while it wasn't toxic, a lot of issues and drama were always caused by women. If it wasn't their attitudes, it was their personalities.
In my department, there was a lady who thought she was better than everyone else, there was another one who literally never smiled, and another one who complained about everyone and everything. It was so weird.
I worked in a call center for a decade where women were 80% of the work force and 100% of management (and in spite of that, one woman insisted she wasn't being paid more because she was a woman; no, Karen, it's because you suck). I watched a woman in her mid forties ask one of my teammates when he turned 18 so she could help hims celebrate. I'm trying to imagine saying that to a woman old enough to be my child, and the image just won't form. He quit; so far as I know she still works there (I also quit, thanks in part to her repeatedly bullying and trying to intimidate me and the company refusing to do anything about it).

Instantly she attributed it to the fact that he was a man, but later admitted her salary is exactly what she asked for. No one told her to give a low number during her interview. Of course like minded individuals were in the comments backing up her claims. When someone asked her about raises, she said she never asked for one believing it should automatically be given to her. As if employers are just yearning to bestow pay increases on everyone.
Long story short, she gave a low salary expectation out of fear of not being hired. She never asked for a raise out of fear of speaking up and being told no. Yet in her mind, men are making more solely because they're men.

Imma be honest, I don’t think gaming going mainstream was a good idea. Women who played video games back in the day, were not only bullied by women that didn’t, but also understood the environments they were willfully going into, and could reciprocate the “toxicity” that they received. Yep in my admitedly limited experience locker room talk tends to be between friends or team mates either chatting about things or maybe ribbing someone for a bad performance. Online lobbies are often strangers trying to psychologically break a person either to get an advantage in an upcoming match or be sure their team mate won't break under that kind of behaviour.

As a female gamer, I have the most crap from female gamers. Gaming communities are awesome. Yeah there can be a vocal minority of AHs of both sexes, just like real life. Also maybe play a better game than COD. I love the Bloodborne community and my partner has made so many friends in the Helldivers community.
