- The Wario Land series has always been one of my favorite Mario Spin-Off franchises, the only problem is there hasn't been a new entry into the Wario Land games since 2008's Wario Land: Shake It. So today, I wanted to take a look back at Wario Land: Shake It and see how well the series has evolved over time as Wario Land: Shake It may just be the best in the whole series.

You should check out the one for Virtual Boy it's the only good one on the system
I got to buy WarioLand 1-3 on my 3ds and 4 on my Wii U before the eShop could shut down. So far, 4 is my favorite of them. They didn't meme it as Wario's "Greatest Achievement" for nothing. 💰
A tie between the original and 4 although shake it does hold a special place for me
I like the original Wario Land the best personally. My favorite Wario games in general are Wario World and WarioWare Shake It!
Wario Land seems like a spinoff that would lend itself very well as an animated series.

Funny enough, I dress as Wario when I go to conventions. He has slowly become one of my favorite Nintendo characters as a result.

Under-appreciated. The submarine levels weren't that great but nothing to ruin the beautiful and fantastic levels of Warioland Shake It

I posted this on one of ProtonJon's vods, but I got an interesting story involving Shake It.
A local mall back in another city had a GameStop store inside it back then, and Shake It was in the Wii kiosk. Whomever was in charge of the store didn't bother resetting the system memory between days, so over the course of several days several customers, including myself, ended up clearing the game. Drew quite a bit of a crowd when I beat the Shake King.
Sadly, the employees eventually caught on, and there went all that effort.
Wario Land needs to make a comeback. If anything, I would love to see another game in the style of Wario World.
I can't believe I had never seen footage of the actual game, only artwork. I didn't even know it was a sidescroller. It looks so good. This feels like the evolution of Dragon's Lair.
Man this is one of my favorite Wii games back in the day. Really wish and hope Nintendo and GoodFeel would go back to this series maybe one day
Fun fact: The ruins theme of this game is used as the basis for Wario's victory theme in the Super Smash Bros. series.

I grew up with Wario Land 2, 3, and 4; and later got to experience Wario Land 1 on an emulator.
These games were a lot of fun. My favorite, contrary to my username and profile pic, is actually Wario Land 3 - I loved how the exploration and metroidvania was handled.

Hey my guy, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the transitions that you use for ad breaks for both your channels. I most often watch youtube on my TV so the ads aren't blocked. Your transitions make the ads much more bearable since they don't end up abruptly interrupting the videos in the middle of you talking. I wish more channels would set ad breaks to set times with proper transitions.
Also I've always wondered how you find the original ad break transitions for the cartoons on your other channel. Like I get having footage for the shows, but I feel like it would be difficult to find all those break transitions, especially for some of the more obscure cartoons you've covered.
Keep up the good work! I love your channels, they've quickly become some of my favorite to watch!
(sees title) In June, I ended up in a psychiatric facility, and they had a Wii. One of the games they had was this one, and I loved it; grabbing stunned enemies and shaking them like a ragdoll is very cathartic.
I loved this game. I know one of the biggest complaints at the time of it's release was the fact that it didn't support 16:9 aspect ratio well. I can only wish for a remastered version to support widescreen
Maybe it's because they would have to render a lot of things which would take a lot of CPU time and they probaly didn't know how to push the limits of the Wii

This game is a style icon. The animation is absolutely GORGEOUS. And this game is a go-to if you want a simple platformer that's neither too easy nor too difficult.

Wario Land 4 was the 1st game I got for GBA (not the SP- the one without the light), and I played a lot of it. I'm not a fan of Mario, but I did love my time with Wario Land. I'm definitely going to check out all the other Wario games in the future, especially Wario Land 4 again- with light this time to appreciate the pixel graphics more. Nice vid.
I never saw the CZcams ad but that was the kind of quality that made me want to go into design and work in marketing. Today, marketing is a shell of what it was and is a general insult to the industry legacy.

I remember this, and I started playing it again a few days ago on my wii! I love the game, and it still amazes me today.
THANK YOU for covering this! I have kept my eye on this game for yeeeeaaaars and always hoped to snag it for cheap (or, at best, to find out it's getting remastered for the Switch) because it not only seems like a blast, but by Jove that art style is _everything._ Here's hoping it's remade sometime in the near future and we find the Wario Land series getting the revitalization it deserves!

Today, it’s 15 years old. 15. This game was my most played game when I was a kid, and to celebrate the anniversary, I re-100%ed it. It’s just as amazing as I remember it being. Here’s hoping Nintendo finally gives us a new game soon.

Hey, I have an admittedly rose-tinted (pun intended) sense of nostalgia for the Virtual Boy! Even though I only had like three ges for it. Sadly, the Wario Land game was not one of them 😢

I'm what you can call a Mario aficionado. I proudly own 100 games featuring Mario characters in some fashion.
Despite this, Wario is the one Mario sub-universe I am least familiar with. I only have two games starring him, being the original WarioWare Inc. on GBA and more recently, Wario Land II as part of the GBC Virtual Console on 3DS. Wario Land II is my favorite; I like how Wario is essentially invincible and the levels are fun to explore.
Shake It! is a game that I certainly heard about. Some fans proclaim it superior to the New Super Mario Bros. series of sidescrollers. I never played it myself, but am decently intrigued by it; the art style in particular is lovely.

I like this game when i was 14 during middle school.
The thing I love about wario land 2 and 3 is that nothing will stop him. Literally. He is literally invincible and anything that might harm him only temporarily transforms him, gives him a new move set, or makes him recoil back. He heard “nothing will stop him” and took it literally.
Wario Land 4 was my jam! The first GBA game I owned until I eventually got Pokemon Sapphire.
I would be so down to see this game be remastered for Switch. Maybe if it revives Wario Land we could have a sequel that brings in Waluigi and his WarioWare employees along for the ride.

I remember playing this game when it came out! Did I 100% it? Don't remember. But I loved Land 4 and I loved this one just as much. The motion controls were a bit confusing if you put it down for a while but it was still a fun play.

got to the frames part and now need to say that the love letter to warioland known as pizza tower has the main character alone i think have 5000 WHOLE FRAMES, only around like 2000 are used but still thats a buncha frames

Fun Fact: The studio that animated the anime cutscenes in this game (Production I.G) is the same one that animated the anime cutscenes in persona 5
The studio was apparently responsible for the animation of the actual game aswell.
This was my first 2D platformer that I played it is a great game but very difficult.

I never played Wario Land The Shake Dimension (as it’s known in Europe, and a much better name if you excuse my bias) but I did watch my brother playing it and liking it a lot. The art style and OST are incredible, I remember spending ages trying to get Hot Roderick’s theme on my iPod back in the day

It's a really solid game, I just think the movement feels slow and rigid compared to the older Wario Lands.
Wario can't ground pound while jumping sideways anymore, he can't duck-slide, and the physics of bouncing on enemies is way less fun to play around with. You can only jump off of an enemy once. After that, Wario gets bumped off himself. Also, stunned enemies can't be bumped around anymore. They just sort of get pushed along or Wario himself gets bounced back.
This all makes it feel like you're no longer the powerful one pushing the world around at your whim, it feels more like you have to be careful not to get pushed around yourself.
Add to that the fact that you can't even throw enemies upwards anymore without having to stand still and carefully aim the arrow up with the motion controls and it all feels so low energy. (unless you're in the middle of using the dash machines, I guess)
I think Wario Land 2, 3 and 4 had the basic movements down perfectly. Wario was fun to control, the enemies were fun to interact with, throwing was quick and easy. So if they do ever make another Wario Land, I hope they get that movemement right.
I'm sad I missed this one, it looks funnier than New Super Mario Bros.

Lol, I just replaced the battery in my Super Wario Land 3 cart a couple months ago. Was a fun one to replay, but trying to get 999,999 coins to unlock the last ending is definitely tedious.
Never played any other Wario game. Wasn't super into Mario franchise games outside of Super Mario Sunshine and the DS Super Mario Bros

It's really not that hard to get the best ending.
You only need 9700 coins, the rest of the money will be covered by Captain Syrup's 300-coin prize, and the 15 treasures.
This game was once stuck at my walmart so long the cover art turned pink from the UV light bleaching.
I've always been a Mario fan but considering everything you've said the games look great and I would love to see a remaster on Switch so I could play it and see what it's like for myself.

My favorite was wario land 2. It was unfortunate I beat the whole thing on Gameboy before the color version came out so I didn't get to play it in color without having to lose 100% of the progress.
But my 2nd favorite is VB. it may sound odd but it's such a perfect blend of wario land 1 and 2 it's amazing. It's like maximum warioness too in the music. Of course my first experience with it was on emulator not on a real VB. If that was the case I might not feel the same level of love

You could easily port this to switch. I was able to translate the motion controls to a regular controller on emulator easily enough and I’m some random dude. Since it’s drawn you just gotta up res it and it’ll look good right now in 2023

Both of them should get a remastered version on the Switch.
The problem with that: Both titles rely on the Wiimote's gimmick. The remastered versions could use the Joycons instead but it wouldn't be quite the same.
