      What’s weird is that it’s the completely backwards for Todd. Back in season 1 he sounds more mature and closer to Aaron Paul. But as the show goes on, his voice gets higher.

    When Diane says she thought her childhood abuse made her special but now it's simply "damage"...oh man that hurt me so much. I realized I've let my own abuse and trauma define me my whole life. Now I'm actively trying to change that. Bojack Horseman is more than just a show. It literally changed the way I see myself.

And now I'm adult and I've had to realise that not all of us will grow up and have our win against the world. Sometimes, you just become a regular adult, with a lot of emotional heavy luggage. But Diane did remind me that we can work that trough in other ways.

She’s strong and driven, but she’s weak and lost. But isn't it the thing that got Diane into depression? She wanted to make something valuable though all seasons and failed at writing a book in Cordovia and then writing an autobiography. But at the end she realised she don't have to make something to prove that she was traumatized, she can write silly books and it doesn't devalues her damage and doesn't make her worse person

      Bacon Boots On the other hand, Diane and Bojack, respectively, did some of the best things for eachother. Diane helped get Bojack into rehab, which he desperately needed, and Bojack helped her start her journey to her new self with that visit. They genuinely care for each other. And that’s what made the 2nd to last episode’s voicemail so much worse. They both have a long while to live, presumably, and while it is Diane’s decision to let it go and keep him in her life, or cut him off, she has to know she has a friend in him. I like the fact that they pointed out how charitable philanthropistic people who have their names on things or tend to make a spectacle of their generous acts are usually just looking to make themselves look good and make it all about themselves. It's never really about the people they're being charitable to because if it was they wouldn't ask for the publicity. That's what bugs me about people who say they are philanthropic charitable humanitarians and just act as if it's some kind of medal or it makes them a superhero and they want everybody to know they are "generous and caring". I've seen people be kind and do amazing acts for others without saying they are a kind and charitable person and don't desire publicity or some kind of reward for it. THEY are usually the true heroes for those who need help in dire times.

    I've got to say it. The Diane hate is about misogynie. Everybody on the show has VERY toxic traits, although people seems to generally like them, especially Bojack. This guy tried to kill a woman and sleep with a minor and everyone is mad at Diane because she seems like a hypocrite? I personally think Diane is one of the best characters in the show. She shows that it's ok to not be perfect, even tho everyone thinks that. I think the hate comes from her being potraited as the voice of reason and having strong political views even tho she isn't perfect. She's also a feminist and wasn't in the show to please the male gaze, as we are often shown in other movies and shows. Think about why you hate Diane, because Bojack, for example, is way worse. I think people don't like Diane because people come to the conclusion that she is annoying. All the characters in the show are hyper-verbal like in most cartoons. Diane is one of the few characters that really take life seriously and she expresses that in her words. She is the opposite of comical relief. She is a serious character that brings us and Bojack back to reality. Her contemplations and thoughts can become one-sided and it makes us feel like we don't want her on the screen. But she is a VERY important character. She is sort of like a ted talk that is too long and goes off track too many times. She is a character that requires patience and real-life understanding to understand. I relate to her.

But for the majority of the show, she’s in a pretty toxic relationship with her entire support system and she is pretty much forced to make herself the bad guy to be heard ever. Idk I think people have the attitude that she should “appreciate more” but sometimes depression and situations make it hard. She was always trying to help or please people around her. Seeing her settle into a comfortable and happy person with a family was a beautiful thing to me , and it s just a damn cartoon. Diane awesome 100/10

      I wouldn’t say hate per say, but I just don’t like the fact that she was “holier than thou” she thought all her opinions were right, the fact that she tore down Bojack in her book and tried to make excuses... She knew Bojack liked her but kept stringing him along then gets mad at him for making a move. She lied to her husband about where she was for months! (I don’t like mr. pb either but that’s not okay to do period.) I thought she was selfish like everyone had problems and trauma which the show highlights but she wanted to seem like her problems were the only thing that mattered. She wasn’t empathetic to other people at all and that’s the main thing I felt like didn’t sit right with me.

    • @vincentzhang1359
      @vincentzhang1359 Před 4 lety +38

      I think a large portion of the hate (not all of it) is based off people thinking she is whiny, ingrateful, etc, which I think is unjustified. Some people seem very willing to hold Diane too a higher standard that they hold none of the other characters up to, and I feel like a lot of times they forget that she is also damaged, her family never showed her any love as a child.
      As for the empathy thing, I think that relates to when Bojack and Diane met Cuddlywhiskers, and he told them something like "Only when you've given everything up can you truly find a way to be happy", and Diane calls him selfish, but he tells her that he's happy. I think for most of the rest of the show, Diane is trying to make herself happy, and it can be selfish but I never really felt it was that bad.
      The consistent thing I find is that basically anyone who related to Diane didn't hate her, or only hated her because of how they related to her.
      (this is just my thoughts based off what I've seen and read, feel free to tell me that I'm wrong)

    • @aa-to6ws
      @aa-to6ws Před 3 lety +22

      As someone who entered the show out of curiosity, I never saw Diane as the voice of reason, nor the 'holier than you" character. So it was a surprise people called her hypocritical. She's just a flawed human, even I act sometimes like Diane, and the reason I try to give good advice is just so maybe I could do what I know is best for me and what I think it may help others. Obviously is not a good action, but I'm working on it.
      She's just a person who wants to make sense of this world and tries her best to help herself and maybe help other, the flaw is that sometimes no one asked.

But Dina supposed to represent that we don’t have to stay a side character. that we can actually make what the main story was originally about revolve at least 80% around us. And in the end that’s truly what the story turned into. It went from just a horse who was a drug addict getting over his has been era in the 90s into a deep dive about the people around him, going through an existential crisis, to go into a midlife crisis, to try to find ones own personal identity, to even maybe thinking that we don’t even have an identity to a whole bunch of other stuff, Diane made me realize that even though we’re a side character we can still be the hero of our own stories.
