A story, originally created for KBYU, about a Vietnam fighter pilot who risked his life to rescue another downed pilot. For this he earned the Air Force Medal of Honor. #berniefisher
I worked with Bernie for several years at mountain west airlines in Boise and used to pick corn at his farm in Kuna....used to watch him fly his "Mooney" at his farm....one of the finest men I have EVER met in my life....it's 2016 and I'm an old guy now...I will never forget Bernie Fisher and what a GREAT GUY he was!....everyone we worked with LOVED Bernie and HE DESERVED IT!!!!!...he taught me to help other people at all costs...always help others.
I worked for United Airlines in Boise Idaho for 23 yes and had the privilege of meeting Bernie. A great story and a great man. A privilege knowing him . RIP Bernie.
Good documentary about a GREAT human being. I was priveliged to meet him when I was a Boy Scout way back in 1968 or 1969. I think he must have been home on leave, or maybe by then, he was serving in the Air National Guard. He died August 16, 2014 in Boise, Idaho at the age of 87. RIP, Bernie!
I met Bernie in 1975 at a church fireside. I thanked him afterwards for his service and told him I was only alive because of the Brave Warriors who flew Spads. My advisory detachment to the 3d Battalion, 52d Infantry Regiment, 18th Infantry Division of the Vietnamese Army was part of a two-battalion task force. We marched into the base camp of a whole enemy regiment consisting of tunnels and bunkers 500 meters wide, 1000 meters long. We were surrounded and taking fire from everywhere. We had 30 percent casualties. Were it not for those four 'Spad Drivers' we would have been overrun and annihilated. Spad Drivers are the best! RIP Colonel Fisher! Condolences to the family for his passing.
I had opportunity to do some work on his house way back when. I had no clue I was dealing with a Hero. Since the park in Kuna was renamed after him I have been looking for more information about this great man. Thank you for this.
If you watch the video till 16:59 you'll see the man known by the nickname "Paco" sitting in the middle. The last name is of course on his uniform. That's the correct spelling. It's wrong at the end of the video. His birthname was Francisco, but he was known as Frank or Paco when he served and even after. He passed away just a few months ago. He was my uncle and I heard this story from him but I always thought despite the recognition the pilots received that it was not widely talked about. I know Paco kept in touch with some of his former military friends and met regularly and he always looked forward to those meetings.
