Took the Emperor long enough to see her true self: for all the goodness within Ruyi, there is the exact opposing evil in Jia, yet he constantly punished and made an example of Ruyi while elevating and pampering Jia. The guy isn't the most brilliant star in the sky, is he? If that lack of perception is true, how in the heck did he rule an entire Empire with clans such as the Mongols as allies? Good grief!
Not that good with trade treaties either. He got China in deep dodo with the British over trade imbalance. Had he talked rather than call Lord McCarthy and his convroy barbarians and negotiated like a real leader, China wouldn't have been screwed for centuries. China was already well ahead of its peers in terms of social welfare. They knew the dirty sneaky things capitalists were capable of, so they were banned from applications to be a government official in China via the official exams.
