- I am back to the Mt Ka'ala summit again! This time we hike Mt Ka'ala with Stacy and Alex, but the real purpose of hiking it was to actually reach Kamaohanui.
Kamaohanui is a lesser hiked and known peak, trght off one of the ridges of Ka'ala.
We had a beautiful day, enjoying our ascent to both peaks.
I have been over 10x to Mt Ka'ala, but it always give me a good workout. The native bog on the top is another one of a kind area which worth a visit by itself.

I've lived in Waiana'e side all my life and August of last year we finally got to hike Mauna Ka'ala. I've come across a lot of people who have hiked everywhere except Ka'ala because of break in's at the parking lot. This mauna was such a challenge for me that it demands respect. Whenever the nā ao (clouds) clear the peak of Ka'ala it makes my heart smile knowing I've been there.
You are absolutely right! Ka’ala deserves respect! It is a tough climb but how you said when you are up there your “heart smiles”, and you forgot about that hard climb which lead you there.
You are privileged to live in Waianae at the foot of this beautiful mountain.

Aloha. Somehow I found you online watching videos about Everest Base Camp… I also lived in Hawaii on Oahu for 12 years (on Sunset), then returned to Germany in 2017 to care for my dad who was dying. This summer I’m flying to Kathmandu for the Everest Base Camp trek, to celebrate my special birthday all stoked. Mahalo for all your interesting videos

remember to wear red or orange so they can find you if you slip...
It’s a good idea to wear a bright color while hiking just in case you get lost or if you slip I guess
Hawaiian hikes are a world onto themselves. So very different from the beaches.
