      People just assume they can keep a pretty bird in its cage, and feed them seeds and they’ll be fine. It’s not until you actually own one that you experience just how much work and TLC goes into taking care of these gorgeous babies! I can just hear it..”Oh, he wouldn’t talk for me.” Or “He bit my hand every time I put it near!” Or whatever the previous owner didn’t expect from him, and didn’t want to put the time into fixing the issue. Of course I don’t know the real reason he was given up, but it’s usually reasons like that. Like giving bunnies to kids on Easter or black kittens on Halloween. Or having a baby on New Years Eve. (KIDDING, of course! 😆) whatever the reason, it was their loss. Touché is SO beautiful, cute and special!

    I had to do something similar with one of my budgies recently; I got a new bracelet (naturally-dyed wooden beads, in case little beaks got to it!) and Nyx was terrified of the scary thing on my wrist, so avoided my left hand any time he saw it. Similar to how you handled it with Touché, I started using my left hand more in their training- the desire for millet eventually won out and he'd land on the very end of my finger! Then it was just a case of asking him to move closer and closer, until he would even sit ON the bracelet. Working through things like that with birds is SO rewarding.

    • @skyttescheibel5476
      @skyttescheibel5476 Před 3 lety +3

      No it’s hard. but maybe give him some seeds because it’s easier for them to eat and then you can start to reduce the amount of seeds and more pellets. 😊

    • @tshaffer9681
      @tshaffer9681 Před 3 lety +3

      Make sure the food is fresh, no bugs or webs. Cockatiels love veggies and fresh fruit. Be sure to chop in different sizes to see what size they like best. Birds are sociable and like to eat with the flock. Put Birdy in the cage and eat near him/her. Don't let them eat your food. It maybe cute but it can lead to alot of problems, even death. Study up on them. I loved my 'teils.

    At what point do you phase out the treats for his little mew so that he just does it without expecting a treat every time? Love your videos

    • @epicparakeet
      @epicparakeet Před 3 lety +2

      In his off time, while not training, he will probably do his mew but won't recieve a treat. I guess eventually, when he does it enough during his off time, she will stop training with that part and he will automatically do it as part of his "vocabulary". Don't go out of your way durring bird's off times to give them treats for the thing you are training them to do. When you stop training, reward every once in a while to make sure it sticks with the bird.

    • @epicparakeet
      @epicparakeet Před 3 lety

      I use this method with my birds including the one as my profile picture. Taught my bird a few different chirps and rewarded verbally throughout the day because they know the verbal reward. I use the verbal reward when they are in their cage so they don't associate that chirp with coming out of their cage. We have a different one for that.

That's because we have fans on our ceilings. My sister says it'll be smart enough to not run straight into the fan but i have my doubts, someone i used to know who also kept parrots, one day accidentally left theur cage open, when parrot immediately flew into a running fan and his head got chopped off 😬. My question is would it be cruel to trim it's features just enough that it can't fly.

      African Greys are a poor choice for... 99.99% of people. Some would say they're not suited to be captive pets at all (see the documentary Parrot Confessional and studies showing Greys have the highest rate of stress-induced self-mutilation of all captive parrot species). A cockatiel can be a very nice pet if you do plenty of research on the care and time they need, and get one from a small responsible breeder (there are some on birdbreeders.com, birdsnow.com), not a pet store or online broker, who often get their birds from bird mills.

    How much do you think the bird is doing it for food and how much for socialization... Now, I know they are not starving and that the reward is a treat but even so , is it That MUCH of a treat and doesn't he get tired of it... It's only a nut and I'm so sure These birds get fed as well as any Bird on Earth..

    • @juliusroman8616
      @juliusroman8616 Před 3 lety +1

      Well, it's a sunflower seed. Seeds and nuts usually have a higher content of fat, plus they just taste good, and their actual diet is comprised of healthy things like grains and vegetables, so it's natural they like to eat those things as a reward. Plus, he might like some things better than others, so the sunflower seed might be like the highest of the high treat. Lastly, the nuts and seeds are cut up into tiny pieces so he eats it quickly and can concentrate. Also if they used a whole walnut, say, then he'd only do one repetition and learn slower.
      In an old video they say the parrots eat at noon or so and then at like 5 I think.

      She doesn't have Touché back. She says near the beginning of the video that this is old footage from over a year ago.

      Usually if there are no bird rescues in the area there are more birds not being taken care of properly, where I live almost every day I see a new bird just stuck in a tiny cage, clipped and cage bound. Usually I tell those people that they're care is bad and 99 percent of the the me they say "well if you know so much about birds why don't you just take it" or " pfft it's my bird I can do what I want with it" and refuse to change, one day when I have enough for a good cage, toys, food and time I want to rescue a bird from one of those people

    Wanna bet those pink glasses made him cringe? Watching Kiwi Tamara’s Chicken makes me say this. That bird HATES the color PINK. And, Tamara said 2 other Indian Rings she knows ALSO are repelled by anything pink.
    I wonder if these birds 🐦 see some frequencies in the color spectrum we don’t, and they see it as an enemy? Interesting.

    Have been watching your channel for a couple of years now, love this channel, love you all, no criticism, absolutely nothing to complain about. However... warning - grammar police comment forthcoming: "guys"is already plural. "you guyses" is some kind of double pluralism that isn't part of the English language. Sorry I just can't help myself - have heard it too often here. I think it's probably a habit picked up from somewhere but you're too articulate and well spoken to let it slide into your vocabulary. Just a little constructive criticism, not motivated by any malice. Peace.
