    Man, one gun I would REALLY like to see evaluated is Mauser-Koka-Đurić, the Serbian conversion of the 1880 Serbian Mauser (AKA the basic Mauser-Koka) to the 5 round repeating rifle that you mentioned. About half of the basic Mauser-Kokas were converted and given to the 2nd ban units (those performed in combat approximately as good as the 1st ban due to greater maturity and experience even if the equipment was somewhat inferior), the remaining single-shot Mauser Kokas were given to the 3rd ban along with old single shot Russian Berdans.

    I find it amusing that when a WW1 rifle is common, the ammunition is often rare as hens' teeth (looking at you, Type 38 Arisaka), but here, we have a cheap and common ammunition (7mm Mauser for the win) and loe and behold, the rifles are rare as pictures of Othais without facial hair. How Othais still has any hair after all the stress that comes with finding both guns and ammunition after all these years, I cannae say. Yeesh!

    Kragujevac is correctly pronounced "Kra-gu-ye-vatz" EVERY letter c in Serbian is pronounced "ts". Next the letter ć which is often found at the end of the Serbian surnames is always pronounced as a soft "ch", best illustrated with the way "ci" is pronounced in the Italian greeting "ciao". The problem being that due to stupid Austro-Hungarian transliteration rules between Slavic latin and German (later expanded to include British) latin, which was inherited from the Croats with the latin script after the unification, every written letter ć gets changed to written letter c when transliterating, aparrently for no other reason than visual similarity between the letters which is phonetically wrong and outright confusing, but is still an official convention in south slavic countries.

      Mark D , without support from a stationary object sometimes the overall length on rifles of this era can be hard to steady despite the longer Side radius. Hence the carbine can be a little easier to manage and as long as short range conversions,are-factored for perhaps nearly as accurate especially at seventy yards.

(Intended target).To be proficient it is required that the (shoulder sling/strap always be used). Other than that good demonstration.BRAVO.

    Straight bolt handle vs bent bolt handle - what are the reasons?

    • @sidekickbob7227
      @sidekickbob7227 Před 2 lety

      Cost and handeling. The trend of the firdt bolt rifles from the 1870, is to use a straight handle on the bolt. This was cheap, and gave easy access for the shooter, and a good lever. But the straight handle makes the rifle bulky, and it's prone to catch into things. I believe the cavalery rifles where the first ones to get a bended handle. One example is the French Gras rifle. They where buildt both with straight and bendt handle. Another con for a straight handle, is the less natural movement of the hand operating it. With a straight handle you will totally block your sight view of the target, when reloading. With a bendt handle, your hand will not obscure your view in the same degree.
