Wow! Can't believe I found this. I remembered seeing this as an 8th grader at a friends house -not sure if it was on TV or VHS but it left quite an impression. I mean, for me to have remembered it up to this day, especially given the fact of how short it is, that's amazes me. I think it was the first time I was introduced to the idea of Panspermia, which must have intrigued me - fueling a fire that had already begun to burn with questions about our existence. Thank You for the sharing!
The main problem with panspermia of course is that it "passes the buck": there must have been one original place where life formed without panspermia, so it only shifts the problem elsewhere. It kind of reminds me of the "but who made God?" argument
Roy Lansdorf completely agree with you, everything we humans have created such as time, math, science etc only applies to us. We invented all these things in order to give ourselves an idea of what the Hell is going on around us
"The main problem with panspermia of course is that it "passes the buck": there must have been one original place where life formed without panspermia" It doesn't really. The theory simply provides a theory of how life began on earth, and offers an example of how it Might travel through space in the cores of meteors. It's a useful theory without needing to have to show how life began.
A creative glimpse into the possible origins of all the variations of life forms on the planet. Just look at the alien-esque creatures in the depths of the ocean, or the bug-eyed marsupials in the trees, the dinosaurs, or even humans. How could such a vast array of beings originate from one Earth-bound "primordial soup" pot? Here's a quote from an astrobiologist i just read..."Evolution is not random, but instead the replication of creatures which long ago lived on other planets." Cool!
@ItsAudiooo well panspermia actually means that bacteria from other planets got to earth via a meteorite or something. This was considered since they accidentally left a camera on the moon and when they got it back, the bacteria on it were still alive.
I feel like I have seen this before but with different sound. i think it had up beat music back then. it may have been years ago. anyone else have this deja vu?
I know exactly what you mean. I remember owning a vhs of this compilation filled with abstract and bizarre CGI, similar to this. However I could not find it any more and the name of the vhs has alluded me.
*this* was the connection machine. a scary computer from 1990 that was way ahead of it's time. the animation made the Spke-and-Mike's festival of animation circuit before all you jokers made them focus only on the sick-and-twisted stuff.
@topo418 scientists have discovered water ice and organic molecules on asteroids which they think are common in our universe, and if so lends credence to panspermia theory.
First I'd like to say great work! Some disagree, you must take into account that there were mathematics involved back when this was made. You couldn't just up and whip up a figure like you can today. The sound is a very important part. I was a sound assistant but got no credit. David was working on Grinning Evil Death and was going to give up doing sound. I convinced him to continue. The show me yours and I'll show you mine on G.E.D was just wrong. However respectively it's great work. Thanks!
I'm not sure if this makes sense. Let me know if not. I understand the theory of panspermia. It's pretty straight forward. But what about the beginning of time? Forget about the big bang theory. I mean if there was a beginning, then what was before that beginning? Just infinite open space with nothing occupying it (i.e. no planets, rocks, gas, ect.). And if that was the case, then how did infinite open space get there in the first place? Does that make sense? lol.. Its hard for me to articulate.
Ebert's tweet brought me here. > People who piled on the Hate Prometheus bandwagon were a little hasty. It absorbs and fascinates blogs suntimes com/ebert/2012/06/_one_of_my_creationist.html
I always had the same kind of questions relating to the end of our universe. Meaning how can there be an end to the universe? How is that even possible? If there was a wall, then would be beyond that wall? It's impossible for something to continue forever, but it also seems impossible for something to not continue forever. So what gives? lol
its kinda wiard to think that our great great great X10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 grand father was a flower
Perhaps you just need a little more perspective.... the film was made in 1990 on a Thinking Machines CM-2, one of the most powerful computers in the world at the time, as a showcase for a technique called L-systems and for demonstrating simulated evolutionary processes using genetic algorithms. It's 23 years old. In its day it was more than a mere breakthrough for digital representation.
@5tonyvvvv I don't see what atheism has to do with this. It's not about trying to deny God, it's about thinking about the world around us. This is just a theory, and theories are based on observations and evidence. No single theory can tell the whole story. A creationist theory is just as important, if it's based on evidence and observation. All human cultures have had their diverse theories of how earth was created, and they have been important in arriving at other scientific theories.
God has always been, is, and always will be. He is the Creator. Only the created come from something? ALL THINGS come from Him, thus He is the source of ALL THINGS.
Why the 'your' God expression? It's pretty obvious that his God is a not a possession and, if he is a Christian, does not believe in a personal God. So, why word it this way?

I recall the feeling when I first saw that as a kid on the TV. Stunning ...
The main problem with panspermia of course is that it "passes the buck": there must have been one original place where life formed without panspermia, so it only shifts the problem elsewhere. It kind of reminds me of the "but who made God?" argument
Life is weird, isn't it? :)
Roy Lansdorf completely agree with you, everything we humans have created such as time, math, science etc only applies to us. We invented all these things in order to give ourselves an idea of what the Hell is going on around us

The Minds Eye is where I first saw this. AWESOME!
I keep telling people that Pantera, Planet Caravan video was a tech demo from 1990 and they never believe me.
Dave Mire
"The Connection Machine" was a masterpiece of design aesthetics and raw computing power.
One of the most awesome computer animations of all time.

that would have bee reaaallly hard to make in 1990. sweet.
Sweet!!! Thanks Neuroplasm,
I feel like I have seen this before but with different sound. i think it had up beat music back then. it may have been years ago. anyone else have this deja vu?

maybe you are the cell in this video
this is deja vu
Cool animation.
muto bom continua assimn
i love this one
thats the funniest thing ive EVER seen
If a plant shot seeds out into space, why wouldn't the seeds grow into that same plant? Why would the seeds start life all over again from scratch?
*this* was the connection machine. a scary computer from 1990 that was way ahead of it's time. the animation made the Spke-and-Mike's festival of animation circuit before all you jokers made them focus only on the sick-and-twisted stuff.
You can do anything with animation. Disney even makes animals talk.
Yeah ; I read about a talking snake in some book when I was a kid. It wasn't Disney though.
@@ednelson2501 and your point is????
Наконец-то нашёл оригинал. Ура !
pantera planet caravan
Wow!
@topo418 scientists have discovered water ice and organic molecules on asteroids which they think are common in our universe, and if so lends credence to panspermia theory.
Daaaaang, I miss that old-tech animation.
From someone who cant spell fairy, thats a pretty ballsy statement. This is actually a scientific theory, the same as the big bang theory.
Thanx dude, have been looking for this for ages !! ... has it been at the Ars-Electronica in Linz (Austria) ??
Hard to believe this was made in 1990.
Which theory is more probable - Panspermia or Abiogenesis?
And where did the very first seeds of life come from to start this chain reaction?
Long ago and far away... Don't let anybody tell you this shit isn't a fairy tale.
my homework brought me here :(
any opinion other than adam and eve i will glady consider
Planet caravan
they used to show this on ytv in canada!!!!
For computer animation from 1990: WOW!
Why the hell is everybody arguing about religion? This is non sense. The animation and the idea is cool. Period.
here Vsauce me brought
PanterA - Planet Caravan
I want to animate this too ... I see I came along a little late to the game ! :p

Mas q viagem é essa, doido kkkkkkkk
agreedo but the animation is still pretty great
Yeah this makes no sense... Where did the seed come from?
The Annunaki.
ditto!

Panspermia brought me here.....not Vsauce
inaccurate but very cool animation
damn this video gives me the creeps,
it was looking like a science fiction horror movie :-O

Then you haven't seen the one where the kid rides a bike, comes off of his seat and cracks his nuts.

eerie
Is this a prequel to Beast Wars?
Seems legit.
15 years ago lol
Pantera - Planet Caravan
God has always been, is, and always will be. He is the Creator. Only the created come from something? ALL THINGS come from Him, thus He is the source of ALL THINGS.
It's not due yet, but scientific research will prove it's validity soon.
4 years later and still nothing. Yeah "soon" wasn't a good choice of words.
does the great evermind omnius know this?
Am I on drugs?
anyone want a whole almond? I've got a bag in my drawer.
@AlienshateU It came from god, but where did he come from?
@AlienshateU thanks for the warning lol. what are you going to say on dec 22, 2012 when you wake up just as you did the day before?
Entertaining, but I think it is a little too extreme ..
No, it's not...
666 likes and 99 dislikes lol
Wtf did i just watch?
Eh the animation design is kinda creepy
Still better than Spore.
wut
Why the 'your' God expression? It's pretty obvious that his God is a not a possession and, if he is a Christian, does not believe in a personal God. So, why word it this way?
wtf
@AlienshateU nobody knows........... yet
It's just a CG animation, QUIT ARGUING ABOUT RELIGION
mmm, maybe creationism isnt so crazy after all
Legit theory, but the video is a bit corny.
Meu amigo! que merda é essa? É uma planta ou um obuseiro?
mas falso
estoy seguro que no fue asi
Earth is flat. You worship your 3D CGI
The Earth is a sphere just like every other celestial body. You worship your invisible god caveman.
This animation is completely wrong in how it depicts the evolution of life.
Que vídeo bobo, interessante apenas como arte, cientificamente é vergonhoso.
