This video is not a tutorial on the bottom deal. Rather, it’s a case study where I examine the theory and practice of this technique.
A "WEIRD" GRIP:
The Erdnase grip (sometimes called "framing the deck") is not quite as "unnatural" as I make it out to be in the video. It looks quite similar to box grip or protected grip -- both commonly used by dealers. Also, if you watch a bunch of casino dealers, each one will hold the cards differently. There must be a reason that the Erdnase grip is the preferred grip of experts like Steve Forte, Darwin Ortiz, my mysterious friend (see chapter four), and many other cheats he has told me about.
I've performed gambling routines for very, very high level poker players and used false deals coming from a variety of different grips. No one batted an eyelid. Furthermore, we have to ask ourselves: "why are we making such a big deal over the placement of our middle finger?" There are lots of other differences between grips, and we seem to arbitrarily focus on this distinction to the exclusion of all else. Ultimately, it's just not that big a deal.

Oh man, the bottom deal, it's gotta be my favourite sleight of all! I remember when I spent all day practicing (I remember practicing it at 2AM couple of times). And the pain with the hangers and air grabbing. 🙄 But I managed to overcome it and it's sooo fun to execute. I also like the new “Chapters” part, looks pretty modern and really nice. Can't wait for the next video!

Yes, I did guess position two when just going by sound! But I imagine that being very difficult if not impossible to distinguish while sitting at a table with background noise. So smooth.
Not only have you mastered sleight of hand, but you've managed to master the algorithm by necessitating that I restart the video forty seconds in after I shake my head in self disappointment for knowing to keep up.

Most people learn basic card sleights first.. Double lifts, strike second deal. Daniel over here learns one of the most difficult, the bottom deal. What a mad lad!

Wow, I actually did hear that it went to the second hand.
It was audibly softer sounding actually, which, to me, is amazing because that means you've eliminated so much of that awkward extra noise that it's now actually quieter than your top deal. Either that or your top deal is purposefully louder to try to match the bottom deal, but your bottom deal is so clean that it's become something you can notice.
I don't think I ever would have expected that outcome, and I certainly would not have been able to hear that without you literally telling me to close my eyes and listen. I can only imagine in a loud setting, this would be basically impossible to distinguish.
Edit: And then at the end I literally could not tell the difference even in sound. Maybe you were subconsciously cautious of making too much noise since you had specifically instructed us on the noisiness of the bottom deal. Interesting. I couldn't tell anything from sound alone later.

It's interesting to me, because with the audio only one, I was able to actually tell which hand it was, and same with when you had us guess where they went in the end. I closed my eyes and listened. There's a distinct difference in the sound of a bottom vs top card. However, this being said, it was a lot harder with you talking over the 2nd deal, which I would assume make it almost impossible to tell audibly in a casino or some other place with a lot of random noises going on all the time. I'm trying to just learn fun card stuff in an attempt to quit vaping, and I gotta say, these videos are a lotta help, and I love the content.

So in the 4th section of the vid called "The Take", I was watching intently and listening. But I wasn't focused on the listening. I heard the sound of the bottom deal. I predicted that they were going to be in the forth hand and they were. I thought I had an epiphany. I can hear the bottom deal. Then the very next thing you talk about is the sound of the bottom deal. And I immediately think: "Dammit, he set me up!" So the moral of the story is - there is a distinct sound to the bottom deal but there's a good chance I won't hear it unless you want me to....

How do you actually deal the card from the bottom using the Mechanic grip? You showed the diagonal pressure with left hand, and ring and pinky moving the bottom card out for the right hand to grab for the Erdnase grip, but you never actually showed how the intricacies of the Mechanics grip works.
I was about to comment that the sound of the bottom deal was super obvious that you were doing the bottom deal then your video said it as the same time

There's a game called Card Shark that has Erdenase in it, it doesn't really teach you how to cheat in real life but it's still a fun game with an interesting story

Could you go in-depth about the erdnase grip specifically dedicated a video to it with your theories why Darwin and your friend use that grip
For a bunch of complicated reasons, it is one of (a few) mechanically ideal grips for dealing the bottom card. And while many magicians complain that it is "unnatural," laypeople don't actually notice the grip or object to it, and many casino dealers hold the cards in all sorts of strange ways, including the erdnase grip! If the cards are held in an overly tense or studied way (as many people who use the erdnase grip do), THEN things will seem unnatural. But there's nothing a priori wrong with the grip.

Hello sir ! Ive been practicing the bottom deal for a while now and my problem is that when getting the bottom card, my index finger is actually still in contact with the card causing the whole deck to move when i grab the bottom card. Any tips ?

I would've loved if you could've gone a bit more in depth about the grip. the bottom card feels like its made out of steel when i try to push it outward. I understand that the necessary step to get the card out is buckling it downward but a bit more explanation would be appreciated since i'm too dumb to figure it out on my own. ^-^

i live in a country where knowing whether or not sleight of hand movements can cause any harm is near impossible to be taken seriously and i just wanted someone who can give me an answer based on a long-time experience.

You just have to not overdo it. If you feel like there’s some pain or inflammation, take a break, use ice, etc. It’s also about avoiding motions that overstretch a tendon or use too much strength. You have to adapt moves to your hands, not just so they look good, but also to avoid injury.
I cant get the bottom card to move :( any tips anyone?
probably a dumb question but does anyone feel like the cards are too "slippery" and make it very hard to get a grip and control the cards? using bicycle cards.
You might experience that when you're just starting out, but eventually you'll get used to new cards
