😂😂 Nothing wrong with a good experiment but I’m so team scrunch and always will be!
Amen, sister!!! 🙌🏻
The only scrunching I think is wrong is the ones that scrunch like crazy while diffusing, to the point their hair winds up a frizzy mess. I love my hairdresser but that’s how she styles my hair after cutting it. It makes me crazy.
I also don’t buy the logic that scrunching is manipulating your hair and therefore somehow not a reflection of your hair’s natural state. By that logic, we can’t touch our hair at all because raking, roping, shaking, brushing, combing, etc. are all disturbing hair out of its natural state, which is evidently a tangled mess for pretty much everyone...
Scrunching IS manipulating your hair and that reflects on the style. But there is nothing wrong with styling, so do what you do. The controversy arises from the moment when a wavy girl insists on naming her hair curly and incorrectly types it as 3a( for example), being a 2a. Your hair pattern is what it is naked - without products and without manipulations, air dried. If it is not 3a in this naked state, and looks like 2 b - it is 2 b, even if you can style it with products, manipulations and heat to look and stay as 3a. The curly ( 3 and onward) type of hair does not change much with products and techniques, it gets more defined and organized, wavy hair can be styled curly, left wavy or easily, without heat, styled straigh, which curly hair is not. That is all what the whole fuss is about. Not that I understand the offended from both sides 🤣🤣🤣
@@orangefox5121 OK, according to this definition my hair is 2b. Wash, condition and a leave-in, nothing else, air dry. And afterwards I have a dull and frizzy mess on my head. And waves, some more, some less wavy. I think most wavy girls try hard to reduce the frizzy and poofy mess because we have no "curls" that look somewhat uniform even with frizz. To be honest, I don't care so much about curls. I would be happy if my hair doesn't frizz up and this goal is unattainable without styling products. Unfortunately. With styling products I have a solid 2c/3a type including sheen, without I look like a witch in a fairy tale - and I better not mention the greys. ;-)
i agree...we should do whatever we want with our hair...after all, it's OUR hair.
@@sannesia3595 there is absolutely nothing wrong with styling and using products, that what we all do. But styling and using products makes your hair STYLED to 2c-3a look, not change your hair type. Hair type is what it is in naked unmanipulated state.
But a lot of people with straight hair only look straight and frizz free with products also. Without smoothing products they are frizzy so how is that different than us wavy curlies using products and techniques ?
This was such an interesting example of the no scrunch challenge!! Thank you for taking one for the team haha
I'm trying it as I watch this. Air drying. No clue how this is gonna turn out. Lol. Awesome video, darlin!
From one Angela to another, Not scrunching is Not for everyone. I am definitely Team Scrunch. I have multiple curl patterns and scrunching helps me to make them a little more uniform.
Same same!! 💛
I tried this and my hair was so straight it looked like I flat ironed it. It's definitely a NO for me. Btw thank you for pointing out we wavy girls aren't fake curly girls! Wavy really is a thing too!
YAS!! Wavy is a texture and it is just as valid as spiral curls!! I have a diverse mix of textures on my head and I love them all 🙌🏻
Wavy hair is GORGEOUS! The only fake curly girls I see are those using curling irons/hot rollers (do those still exist? 🤔) and perms. 😂
I think the density plays a role too, both in no scrunch and net plopping.
I haven't tried either and I'm not going to since I'm still transitioning and I think my different curl patterns depend on health of a particular part or section of my hair - the more damaged ones respond well on scrunching whereas the healthier ones remain the same whatever I do to them.
Maybe after a while, when the most of my hair becomes more healthy (or the damage grows out, whichever happens first) I may give it a try.
Until then team scrunch, all days!
I may though try just microplopping, after raking / brushing / praying hands-ing the products. It would decrease the styling time 😉
And as for wavy vs curly - at least for me - if the hair makes a full circle i.e. forms a ringlet, it is curly. Wavy hair makes Ss, looser or tighter.
And of course you're gonna style your hair in the way that will give you the results that YOU like! The real challenge for everyone is to figure out that way 😉
You do you 🥰
Hey, microplopping is bae 🤣 and healthy hair definitely makes a difference in this challenge! I think the texture - fine to coarse - makes a bigger difference than density - thin to thick - just because the hair’s texture will impact how it holds a wave or curl on its own. But you bring up a very good point!!
Omg!! I wanted to scrunch just watching you! Lol! I might try this, but it's going to be soo hard not to scrunch!
Girl it almost killed me 😂
Oh heck no! I HAVE to scrunch! It seems so alien not to. Watching this gave me anxiety 😝 thanks for trying it though, definitely reaffirmed my belief in scrunching.
This made me laugh so hard! But, when i tried it my hair was amazing. So much definition, nearly zero frizz. Only problem was volume. Going to try again with root clipping.
You use so many different products Im overwhelmed 😩 I need a recommendation for and everyday product combination. What would your go to be if you could only choose one of your product routines??
This actually turned out way better than it would for me! I would be happy with this on a day when I was pressed for time if I were you!
Thanks for going through this for us! I would love to see what your hair looks like air-dried and product free! It seems very similar to mine when it's styled, and if I don't do anything at all to it, it looks almost straight and just poofy, with random curls here and there. Are we all fake wavies then? The point is, if your hair is really straight, you can do all the scrunching and diffusing that you want, it won't turn out curly.
PREACH!! Scrunching will not make straight hair curly or wavy! I will say, I haven’t air dried my hair with zero product or manipulation in a long time because it literally murders my self-esteem 🙈 but it would probably be good for me? Maybe? 😂
@@TheFitCurls When I first saw you on CZcams, I thought your hair looked gorgeous! (I still do). Then my husband said mine looks almost the same, when I style it. Somehow I still it it as barely wavy... I don't know what it would do to your self-esteem to show us your unstyled hair, but it would probably do a lot for some of us, who would know for sure that with perseverance and technique, we can hope to get results as amazing as yours!!!
I feel the need to try this!! In a way I think it can't be so bad, because my hair without product/styling technique/scrunching and being flat ironed every 2 weeks, was really really tight waves...the problem is that I got used to scrunching, and I wouldn't be able to use gel (because I feel that I'm going to pull my hair if I rake the gel, so I just use a little bit and scrunch it), so that kind of worries me
It’s worth a shot!! A lot of curlies rake their gel through and get great results - worth a try!
scrunching helps separate my waves and I like the way they look. However, I ;have these bangs that are about two inches below my chin, they are the most annoy. Nothing i do makes them fall nice and wavy against my face. Never will I cut bangs again. If you have any tips, would really appreciate it.
I’m working on putting together some tips for bangs! Stay tuned :)
If you don't mind me asking, what's the best shampoo and conditioner for fine curly hair? or maybe you can do a video about different kinds you've tested and approve of 😆
I am such a bad source for shampoo & conditioner comparisons because I use the same four products in the shower pretty much always 😂 but I’ll see what I can do!
The amount of product you use gives me anxiety! I use that for my whole head, for what you use for like the bottom 1/8 of your hair 🤣🤣 and my hair is to my belly button
Scrunching makes it look better and is so easy, though. Is this one of those curly hair gatekeeping things? Lol
Not gatekeeping! Thank god 😅 Scrunching just (oddly) doesn’t work for everyone’s curls! So it was worth a shot lol
I have tried the no scrunch challenge twice. The first time I tried it I ended up scrunching before my hair was dry as I air dry since I don’t have a diffuser attachment for my blow drier. The second time I lasted the entire time it took to dry really wanting to scrunch my hair. I probably won’t stop scrunching my hair but it wasn’t a bad hair day. Granted because I waited until later in the day to wash and style my hair was only just dry before I went to bed so it ended up changing anyways because of how my curls change after sleeping on them. I have also been trying out a new product for the past few wash days both time with the no scrunch challenge and that probably didn’t help. I like the product but the results might have differed if I had used familiar products instead of still testing out a new one.
Thank you for sharing!! Nothing like the itch to scrunch 😩
Yep, I’m not giving up scrunching anytime soon.
Oh heck no. Scrunching for LIFE.
Just a thought ... when I use a denman brush, I absolutely have to scrunch because it clumps my hair straight. If you tried this raking in your product and then not using a denman you might get a better or totally different result.
It’s a good thought, but raking also makes my hair stretch out! As does…water… #finehairproblems 😂
What would have happened if you didn’t use the Denman brush?
Goes to show how important application/styling technique matters
Amen to this!! Not scrunching could work beautifully for curlies with relatively uniform patterns or tighter curls, but with mixed patterns it helps to create that uniformity!
Oh Lord! No scrunching??!! Lol My anxiety is through the roof right now 🤣
Mine. Was. Too. 😅😅😅
I do not get people who have to judge other people’s curl patterns as real curls or not, just because you style it a certain way. If your hair is stick straight, no amount of scrunching or Denman brush styling, etc. will make it curly. Or at least not stay that way. 🙄 It’s a form of bullying and shaming. I’m over it. Thanks for trying this styling method. I’ve tried quite a few in my quest to find my groove, I think the stupidest was the bowl of water styling. 🙄😂
Not gonna lie. It's painful just to watch you (or anyone who does this challenge) not scrunch. It actually makes my muscles tense lol. Literally painful
Hahahaha it was so funny watching u so frustrated sorry 😂😂😂
I live to entertain 🤪🤣
I considered trying the no scrunch method and I just could not bring myself to. You are the first person that I've seen use the denman brush in the demo and I think that might have contributed to some of the wonkiness of your hair. I saw others with hair that did not have as much curl as yours and in all cases, their hair ended up looking really nice! They had waves or spirals depending on their hair type. Thanks for the demo!
I have not seen a one influencer who tried this method NOT using Denman brush - how the heck are you going to disperse the products if you do not scrunch and are not using Denman ? 🙄Raking does not work for everyone, plus it does not disperse the products evenly.
@@orangefox5121 The 4 podcasts that I watched either roped the products or smoothed over their hair with good results...all of the four had nice results.
@@annaburns5382 interesting, I have seen at least 6 youtube enhancers and neither one skipped the brush , it was not Denman only, one used a big paddle, the other used wet brush, three used different Denmans and one did not name it, just used it. Do you mind posting the name os the ones you have seen? It also, obviously, matters, what initial curl pattern the podcaster has, as someone with type 3 curls will not need a brush, but a wavy definitely will.
TIA
@@orangefox5121 there is no one way to do it, obviously. It never crossed my mind to use a brush when doing the no scrunch method until I saw this presentation. The others that I saw used no brush and had beautiful results. Even the one that started this movement did not use a brush. Nothing wrong with using one...but her hair turned out so bad that I assumed it was because of the brush. I'm a rule breaker...do whatever works for you and your hair.
Hi there! I can guarantee that the Denman brush is not the reason my hair turned out wonky without scrunching. The brush helps me to form clumps - the rest is just my crazy head of mixed patterns! Like I said in the video, scrunching helps create the illusion of uniformity :)
I could never do this challenge! I get anxiety just watching! Lol
😂 I totally feel that!!
It was really hard to watch! I was yelling at the screen “just scrunch! Please just scrunch it!” Lol
Your hair looks amazing...I'm not doing the challenge!!
I could never. 🤣🤣🤣
It was ROUGH 🤣
I would have brush coiled that ish 😂
I tried the no scrunch challenge. It looked really terrible. I need to scrunch!
Nothing wrong with that!! Scrunchers gotta scrunch!!
If ur hair can do that without heat ur undeniably curly
TRUTH 🙌🏻
Omg I had to laugh when you wanted to scrunch because that would have been me too. Wavy curly girls definitely need that scrunch for better formation:)
My hands were aching to scrunch!!! So hard!!!
I tried not scrunching and it was a disaster☹️
So was this 😂 so I feel you!!
Fake curls? People with straight hair still use a brush and/or blow dryer/iron and products to accentuate the straight. Does that mean their hair isn’t actually straight? I call bs. It’s funny how when I was young (many moons ago) NOBODY wanted curls and now it’s some kind of elite club of curly girls with all these stupid rules and definitions. When did that happen? You’re hair IS curly and quite beautiful.
Aww thank you!! The curly gatekeeping drives me up the wall. It’s pointless and really does far more harm than good!
I will not be trying this technique.....this girl needs to scrunch and micro plop to get my best results. Also, I have been using the Elovlh curl cream and the OM as well. It is the perfect combo for me. :)
It’s such a great combo!! Glad it’s been working so well for you too!
Hi girl, here scruch team too 👐👐👐👊🤓👍
Yeah...no thanks. Scrunching is crucial for my waves to look decent at all so I have no desire to try this challenge. If I didn’t scrunch I’d end up with stringy clumps with a random bend in them. It would be horrific.
I agree. I used to wear my hair curly all the time then stopped for like two or three years then stopped but back then I used to stay I'm wearing my hair scrunched today. Not natural but scrunched. If that doesn't tell you how I feel about no scrunch I don't know what will. Lol.
🤣🤣
Whitney, I totally feel you - as is evidenced by my results 😂 scrunchers gonna scrunch!!
My Brother in law always tells me my hair isn’t really curly because I use curl products to help definition and frizz and it pisses me off because what about all the women that do keratin treatments and all that to have straight hair. Hypocrisy
I tried it and it wasn’t half bad if I kept my hair super wet. But that meant an eternity of drying... I’m gonna stick with scrunching 😉
PS - I would have loved to see how you “fixed” it.
Check my Dry Brush Refresh video!! That’s the technique I used :)
I like hair you🥰
Suggestion: look for fast hair growth fortified shampoo to double hair growth.
When you scrunch you’re manipulating your hair to be curlier than it is. There’s nothing wrong with it. The no scrunching and no Denman brush would have showed almost your true texture.
