You missed "box of ziti" when they talk about money.
Unbelievable!
I cannot believe i waited until i was 26 to start watching this show. 2 years later and i have watched every season 6-7 times over
It's awsome isn't it?? I've got the box set must have watched it 5× at least who's ur favourite character??? Mines ralph or jnr
@@tonythetiger1600 Ralph is definitely one of them. Furio maybe too
I was 35 an have watched it all 4 times 🤣
@@TheFirstShotCounts yh furio is cool 😎 I feel brendan could have been coop af if Michael palmice n junior didn't kill him 4 the truck hijacking imho chrisy and brendan where great together
Same here. Didn’t bother with it until I was 27 and now all I do is communicate with Sopranos quotes. Carmine thinks the world of you!
Learning Italian with The Sopranos
One possible correction: "va a Napoli" meaning literally, "go to Naples" is synonymous with, "go to hell" owes it's origin to Danté, by way of Virgil. In the Inferno and in the Aeneid, one entrance to the underworld is found in Naples.
Scharole = cash
"Rechionne" -another word for fanook as in : "I never knew Vito was a rechionne.."
I think this is why Richie hated his son being called 'Little Ricky'... Richie thought it was too close to 'rechionne' and Richie was already worried about his son being a finook with the ballroom dancing.
You better be kickin' up to Borko, my friend
"I have a lot on my mind, I don't need this shit"
Cumare means tasty side dish.
Oh Madone! What a lovely video.
Aids!
@@paulie-Gualtieri.- NOBODYS GOT AIDS! I DONT WANNA HEAR THAT WORD IN HERE AGAIN!
@@paulie-Gualtieri. I don't wanna hear that word in here again!
Fugazi, means 'fake'.
I like the lost, but you forgot “Cinzano.” It means “a hundred years” and is often used as a toast.
Let’s get back to that gabagool
"Oogatz" during Paulie and Feech's war of words? I'm pretty sure it's different from "oobatz".
"Stronzo" - Uncle Junior calls Tony this in the S1 finale. Think it mean POS.
Also, "goombah" at 06:40. Think Gloria describes Carmela as this insultingly.
Oogatz means nothing as in "you get nothing", oobatz is like stoonad in that it means dumb, but also means insane.
@@DixieWhiskey Cheers fella. Hopefully he'll cover these in a follow up video. 🙂
Nice work. I love the video.
Thank you for this. Love the show. Have watched it start to finish more times than I can count. Oof madone!
This was brilliant. Good work 👍🏻
Thank you so much! Took a while to make 👏🏻
the way phil says fanook 🤣🤣
Always wondered what they meant when they were saying, "Oh!" all the time. lol
A Stilbidere? When John Sacrimoni admonishes Chris at the meeting 'And as far as I'm concerned you should still be there'
Wow, I get a feeling that a helluva job has been done to make all that knowledge see the day.
Capocollo Is from the neck of the pig whereas ham is from the leg. Madone is slang for Madonna, not the singer but Mary mother of Jesus.
Why do Italian Americans drop the last vowel in these words?
Because the vast majority of Italian-Americans are Sicilian, and it is a normal part of their dialect. That's also the same reason why many of the words specified "Southern Italian in Origin"
Gabagool 🍖
Gabagool? Ova here!
Marone = Madonna , literally exclaiming "Holy Mary"
Well one thing I know for sure is Tony never had the makings of a Varsity Athlete
Let’s settle the debate is if “goo-mad…or…..”goomar”
Text disappears to fast I have to keep pausing, otherwise fantastic video
'Lam' which means to flee from the law or lay low while being pursued. As in Christopher attempting to convince Tony his best friend didn't flip "Maybe he's(Pussy) lammin it for a while."
Watched ad.. heard your voice… left.
Charcoal Briquette
Whats the word Tony used to describe Dr. Cusimano? The other word for "wonder bread wop"
can this clip go any faster ?
@ 2+45 Livia says Caporegime
Yes Tony did die I read the article
I feel like the majority of these you can figure out with your context clues.
You flashed the definitions too fast. Even trying to pause the video didn’t work.
Oh!
Where's "Shinebox" and "Wilshire Boulevard"????
Marigoat; The scene in the restaurant when Angie has an emotional breakdown in front of Carmela & Rosalie. Rosalie shouts, "Eat your Marigoat!" to some ladies at another table. I know my spelling is incorrect. It's obviously an Italian dish of some sort.
It was probably Manicot, in reference to Manicotti, been a while since I've seen that episode though
Yep Manicotti
There was nothing we could do. The Italian catchphrases andslang was a made guy and I wasn't. It was some real greaseball shit only varsity athletes could understand.
Lol
Paisan
Missed out "oogatz!" Meaning nothing, or in British English, "fuck all!"
Well it’s a good thing then that your opinion means OOGATZ TO SOPRANOS THEORIES! 😂
Estu or Esso Cazzo - it means this wanker, as in when an English speaker states "nothing but my **** in my hands"
Shkoopet
I'd almost rather that you read these definitions, so I can listen to the video and work.
OH!
I watched all the best parts in y.t clips ... whatever happen there
Goomar you’re spelling these wrong
KAREN'S ZITI ????
Mia copa
Cómo se dize, booykak
Isn’t gabbagoll
BOO KYAK
😊
All the words that describe African Americans should be designated as slurs not just slang terms. Great video though
Bukyak
Mamaluke
Damn. Slow tf down. Had to pause every three seconds. Annoying..
that's a corny coppla of food lingo right there.
Mezo morta
Hhooaaahhhh!!!!
WhyO
a little late to the party with this huh?
Bad writing:
"When it comes to viewing the sopranos, there can be many questions asked when watching the series for the first time."
Not sure how to feel about moolies and distoon being used and explained here
Too much reading
Too much reading, is this a video or a powerpoint presentation?
Can you believe this guy?
Homie, most of this stuff has absolutely nothing to do with the mafia and are just common Italian/ Sicilian terms here and back in the motherland. Even some of the terms used by the mafia are still common with Italian/Sicilian soccer moms.
