    So pleased to have found this excellent video. I have 12 of these signals on my layout, and quite a few have been failing, and I didn't know why. I do now! Thanks for the clear explanation.

    Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I bought two GWR versions (so the signal drops down rather than being pulled up) but the principle has to be the same. In installing one of mine, I managed to overtighten the nut and the barrel became disconnected from the signal. Now I can hear the motor working but the signal does not function. This info will certainly help me a lot in trying to fix it. Thank you again.

    The screw to separate the halves is covered by a plastic plug with a mock slot in it from new. - possibly these fall out if the whole signal gets warm and/or flexes. I split might apart believing the screw wasn’t there but its under the plug!

    Thanks for this. I had a new signal arrive with the "one direction" fault, but it is now fine. Another tip - mine would not work on 16v ac as the rms peak is about 18v. I spoke to Dapol who suggested using 12v dc, contrary to their written instructions and all works well, so if you have the ac problem with DCC try a separate transformer giving out 12v dc.
    Regards
    Robin

      Thanks for your comment, yes I use a 12v DC regulated PSU for Dapol signals as I thought 16v AC didn't sound right to me.

      The lower the voltage the better; e.g. 9v. The lamp will be more realistic too.

      Hi,
      I hope that the rest of your signals are ok, these signals are quite expensive, if you need a lot of them you are looking at fair old shopping bill and to find they don't work properly sometimes is off putting to say the least!

    The new Junction signals (released Dec 2019) appear to have solved the problems relating to all the earlier models. Whether the earlier models such as those seen here will be upgraded remains to be seen !

    Thanks for the great video. However when I went to fix the signal there was no screw in the barrel. There was a recess in the plastic where the screw should be but this was blank plastic and I was unable to get the halves of the barrel to come apart. Have you come across this?. David Merrall

    • @WestBlythMPD
      @WestBlythMPD  Před 4 lety

      Hi David, thank you for your comment, no I haven't seen that before, the signals have all had the screws in place. if you are careful you might be able to run a model knife blade down the 'seams' of the barrel and get into it that way.

      @@WestBlythMPD Michael, I will have a go but I am coming to the conclusion it better to chop the whole bottom off and put a servo on it. Keep up the good work. David

    Can,t understand people who pay a lot of money for these products locos signals etc , then find them faulty and go poking around to fix them , you should,nt have to , send it back , it,s faulty , would you do the same with a washing machine micro wave etc ? don,t think so

    • @WestBlythMPD
      @WestBlythMPD  Před 6 lety

      Thank you for your comment.
      Yes I quite agree with you on that one, there is a lot to say about quality control! but I just cant resist having a crack at taking things apart and fixing them where possible.
      If the signal had worked fine from new but maybe failed a couple of years down the line (no pun intended) I would have had to dismantle it then to try and repair it as I don't think it would have been possible to send it back after that length of time.
      To be honest I cant be bothered with returning faulty items when purchased online and having to wait for refunds or replacements.
      In the case of the Dapol signal the fix was simple and quick, now, as far as washing machines and microwaves are concerned that's another matter!
      Thanks
      Regards
      Michael
