- How to visit the Great Wall of China using the S2 train from Beijing to Badaling for $2 each way, showing the train, the journey and the Great Wall. For Beijing to Badaling train schedules, fares, how to buy tickets see www.seat61.com/places-of-inte...
This was a great day out from Beijing - the train ride to Badaling on a Chinese train over this historic railway was as much part of the experience as visiting the Great Wall itself. Going by train allows much more freedom than going on a bus tour with fixed times.

Thinking of taking a tour from Beijing to the Great Wall? I took a tour the first time as it seemed the easiest option, but we were given barely half an hour at the actual Great Wall, and far too much time at retail outlets! It's far better to go independently, simply use your Beijing metro smartcard to hop on the S2 local train from Beijing to Badaling. Come back when you want! It's all explained at www.seat61.com/places-of-interest/by-train-to-the-great-wall-of-china.htm
In 2020 you should be able to take the high-speed train directly to Great Wall in just 20 minutes!
And also the deepest underground high speed railway station right under the great wall!
A great video but unfortunately it will be outdated soon. Beijing North Railway Station, the original terminus of the S2 line, will complete renovations in late 2019. Thus travel to Huoying station will not be needed, but Xizhimen metro station. Also a new high speed line is under construction and a separate new underground modern station is being built at Badaling. All in time for hosting the Winter Olympics, deep beneath the Great Wall and bypassing the switchback.
Graeme Bray that shows how fast China is developing. Impressive!!
Do you happen to know when in 2020 the high speed rail will be open to the public?
@@Sadie8Sadie It's already open to the public. The Beijing-Zhangjiakou line just opened in late December 2019. It's 30 minutes from Beijing North to Badaling Great Wall, but it's quite a bit more expensive than $2. The new high speed line is around $4 from Beijing North to Badaling.
@@jefferyzhang1851 Thank you so much for the info! I appreciate it ❤️
If you want to see the sights, you can still go to Huoying/Huangtudian to take the S2. It's still operating. It's cheaper too.
It is interesting to see the Great Wall in person. You see it so differently when it is seen by movies/television and photoshoots.
Thanks for new views of Asia!
This is everything I could ask for in an instruction video. Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to share this and although somethings have changed at least I know that the great wall is only a train ride away from the city center
Great doc. Thx
Thanks for these informative videos as always. Looks great- seems busy on the trip back which is a little disappointing
Good to see a vid in my hometown on this channel. Hope all can come to Beijing and enjoy what this city could offer you when COVID-19 settle down:))
really enjoyed this video. lots of information and incite on what to expect when traveling independently.Thank you for your hard work and patience in these amazing places. I am happy that you are sharing it with all of us.

Exactly said really thanks it help reach me to China wall thanks ah lot 🎉
when I was there back in 2009 ,this train line has not yet completed. Then we had to take the tour bus coach
Mark, great to see you again on yt

Very nice video! I didn’t realize you can use the Beijing Metro Card. I thought you needed a special ticket. I tried this once and they ticket office told me that all the trains were sold out already for the day. It was 8am and trains were sold out. This was a few years ago.
I took the subway 1 stop and took a bus. I think I got off the bus too soon and saw the Beijing Safari World which is right next to the Great Wall. I spent the day there instead.
I love the video. I'm a huge fan of trains and loved to ride trains when I was a kid. Sometimes I would ask my dad to take me on a train ride for one stop just to feel the train tremble. In China, and probably most Asian areas, trains are cheap. When I visited Europe, I found trains really expensive even if you book in advance compared to buses and cheap flights like Ryanair. Tough choice to make.

This is the old route to the Great Wall which was built in the early of 20th century by Zhan Tianyou. Meanwhile, a brand new route will be operated in 2020. The high speed train will run this route (Beijing - Zhangjiakou, two main hold city of 2022 winter Olympic)
I think you mean Zhan Tianyou (詹天佑).
一生悠然 对啊,是老詹,不是老翟
Very good. I like train better than buses, less confusion.
How do you get to the 1st class seats? Is there a number on the train box?
Simple Living Trains leave Huangtudian Station at 7:25 7:49 8:58 9:54 11:42 A.M.and 1:14 P.M.
During Fri. to Mon. there are two more trains leaving at 9:33 & 11:23 A.M.
It usually takes about 70 minutes.
3:12 SHOCKING PACKED!
Fond memories
How much it cost in total.. to go and come back.. i live in Beijing
I did this in last March
xihuantiyu how long does it take from Beijing to the wall using this route ?
👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌❤😍😘
Man that’s why I don’t go to the Badaling Great Wall. Locals like me go to Jingjiling in nearby Hubei province.
I don't think there's any train to there. You'll miss out on the ride on the Pekin-Kalgan Railway! ;0)
Interesting. When I went to Beijing I went to the wall at Juyongguan.
Juyongguan
Ah thanks.

good video!I’m living in Beijing right now and I could be your guide if you want ^_^
王明 Hellow are you still in Beijing , can you be my guider ?
Please make a video on italian IC train between Milan and Grosseto.
Is a seat reservation included?
railroadmovie No, all seats including first class seats are non reserved
seat reservation isn't possible. just tap your "Yikatong" card (it's like Oyster in London, Octopus in Hong Kong, Pasmo/Suica in Tokyo) on the reader and hop the next train
Knew of this for some time but Badaling isn't a great part of the Great Wall. It is too, shall I say "Disneyfied". Mutianyu and Jinshanling are better. More unspoilt, raw and wild. Unfortunately you can't go to these parts of the Great Wall by train.
wow, can't believe you are in China now. You should have a fan meeting over here :)
he is in UK probably now
Please, is this way still doable nowadays?
Yes it is. But the high speed rail from Beijing North Station (Xizhimen) or Qinghe Station is much faster.
@@dexinwang7192 thank you but my trip has already finished haha
The station staff was yelling at you for which organisation you belonged to at 0:38, which makes me feel like Beijinger especially those elder Beijingers are quite rude. lmao
I prefer Jiankou much than Badaling.
Don't forget Mutianyu and Jinshanling.
你这是什么单位的啊......
This is what the staff said when you stood in front of the metro cardreader.

As an engineering project it may be notable otherwise is it worth spending all that time and money to see something which is not visually arresting . It's just another wall , albeit a longer one.
@@jasondenton5432 As I said a notable engineering feat , not a visual treat .
THE TITLES DISAPPEAR TOO FAST. NOT EVERYONE HAS 20/20 VISION.
As much as Chinese trains are undeniably rapid and efficient, I must admit the cramped, poorly furnished interior of the trains and the general experience of travelling on the trains are more like a low cost airline and leave a lot to be desired
You want something fancy? Try the high speed train.
@Sheila Uy yes I know but quite frankly the interiors and service on them really aren't much better
This is just s-bahn
Please make next video in India
Bangladesh is better :-)
KAUR BINDER for what? makes people puke?
Jai Hind brother!
India superpower by 2020.
Do they have 1st class in China? Isn't it supposed to be a "classless" society? Are some more equal than others?
It is not in fact socialistic anymore. De facto capitalism everywhere, constitutionally. 1st class? For sure. Equal? Not that much, imagine that similar to US, where money speaks.
Shove your wall, Beijing: protest for Democratic Hong Kong! No more Tiananmen Square massacres!
