- Three days of competition has all led here. These two have already faced off, in which Javier Dominguez of Spain (Gruul Aggro) defeated France's Jean-Emmanuel Depraz (Bant Golos) and sent him to the lower bracket. Depraz has battled his way back and they now face off in the double-elimination Grand Finals. Who will win it all?

The satisfaction of having won against a field of the dead meta right before the ban, feels good man, hats how you make history.
Oh yes, and those 100k too haha
He went finals running a nation deck.
he had one of the worst records of the tournament.. the least deserved winner of a PT/MC ever anda the most flawed tournament format in MtG history.
The fact that Javier doesn't have to pee every 5 seconds considering the amount of water he's drinking is what we should really admire him for lol
This man is always hydraited
he kept drinking to prevent himself from puking off of FOTD deck
Hydroided*
what the fuck is wrong with him
Water is free. Pros likes free stuffs
that magic training montage commercial is actually pretty awesomely hilarious. good stuff.
His reaction when he won was very sportsman like and I respect that. He shook his opponents hand, and THEN celebrated. He's a respectable player. And I'd like to face that gruul deck sometime. I love it😂
I love to see these games, i learn so much just watching them play. Two of my favourite all time players. Love it
Marshall and Paul are the best commentators. Great coverage
Really interesting final! 2-1 and 1-2, very close! Cool to see such different style of decks. Thanks for the coverage
if you play Magic Arena, you already know that Field of the Dead deck (was) overplayed. So it wasn't a fresh deck to see. I'm glad it is banned. Now they need to ban Oko the Broko and Nissa. Overpowered planeswalkers that break the format. It makes playing Standard boring. That's why I'm enjoying playing the brawl event better.
GoHomeRog he was talking about Gruul I think. Yay we banned oko! Nissa is slow, so I use spark harvest
When Field of the dead comes into play 30:49
not mulliganing the heavy land hand throw at the end?
Javier = Hydrated Crisis
In game 1 Javier didn't cast the Collision first because that allows him to win the game this turn if Jean-Emmanuel doesn't block. The Hydra still dies so it's more upside overall.
That makes sense, but it still seems like the incorrect play: at this level you'd have to assume that the opponent makes the (rather obvious) correct play, and by killing the Hydra he would have had lethal damage next turn
there's totally no reason for jean not to block the 4/4 creature with a 5/5 creature
@@bopeng3550 I think the reasoning was that he thought that he would lose the game anyway if the game would go on for 2 or 3 more turns. In hindsight we know that to be wrong of course, but I can understand the reasoning of "one last chance to win the game".
I actually agree that it was wrong though.
I think I like this more than cavalcade purely because of Once Upon a Time and Riot.
I wonder how that match up would look like.
What a final. Damn!
ah, the zombieless field of the dead game, truly big brain strategy
3:11 can't help but notice how he didn't attack here. he didn't block with it the next turn, so he avoided doing 2 free damage for no reason. Also later in that game, he brought javier down to only 2 life which would've been a win had he done the 2 damage earlier. he still won, but he did give javier more chances to top deck what he needed to win when he didn't have to
That was intense and at least gruul aggro won that $100,000
14:09 that moment he realizes that bonecrusher is a giant lol
If field of the dead was a colorless enchantment, the deck would've never made it off the ground. Broken ass land. Good riddance.
Or if they had just made it legendary
@@MushroomKing30 Or if they have brought back erial or dustbowl.
If it was a colorless enchantment for 0 that taps for colorless mana it would probably be even more broken.
That 100.000 dollars are from a pro tour or from this championship?
GRUUL SMASH
Does anyone feel like the trophy looks like a plastic carnival comfort prize? Man I wish they would put some more effort in that thing to make it look a bit more like an actual trophy
I'm glad FOTD player didn't win. That deck is just sleazy.
Not surprised he played that deck, look at his face. A punchable face placing a sleazy deck, did not deserve to win.
Spoiler alert.
@@mamasboii9437 If you don't like the deck ok, but don't be an asshole
When you see an ad that features Jimmy Wong from Game Knights, coupled with the guy who played Apollo Creed in "Rocky," you know it's a good day...
The magic was inside you all along
I am new to magic. Are they not doing tournaments in paper? Did they officially switch over to arena?
Danny M they still do. That’s when the pro tours come, and other tournaments also
They stopped covering the Grand Prixs (paper tournaments), but still have paper championships. check out star city games for paper tournaments
Not specifically for this video but I forgot to say this for a previous video: You guys should, in every video, make the length equal to the average length of the games * number of games they could play at max. This way, in a BO3 if someone wins once, and the video is only 20 minutes we already know the outcome before watching the second game..! Just add something random at the end to fill it up.
I actually don't mind having those pro tour ads at the end of a video. You can skip it if you don't want it and you still get some mystery in a bo3 match up
@@redundancycheck exactly!
IIRC CD Projekt Red did/does exactly that with the Gwent tournaments.
wish the hand/ pov was from the winners perspective, no idea what Javier was doing when sideboarding and mulliganning :( anyone know where to find his gruul decklist?
www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2379096#arena
@@citizenrandall01 awesome, ty
Gruul is crap with starting hands, if you don't have dual mana you pretty much have to mulligan
Who goes first always wins. Wow
This is very true in this format at the moment.
2 biggest flaws of MTG: First vs second and land screw/flood.
@@bryce2703 Land screw/Flood was always a huge problem. But now they managed to make first vs second problem be even worse.
To be honest I don't understand why anyone thinks this game isn't just dry. Not worth taking seriously, people are hooked. It's like of slot machine addiction was a game.
@@TheAcad3mic it really is gambling lol. It's all luck. I mean 3 games a match kind of makes things a little better but it's still pretty bad.
40:06 why keep that hand? Slow hand with no white source on the play. The mulligan he took at the start of the game looked like a better keep IMO with the Once upon a time to dig for action. I would have kept that one and mulliganed the other if I were him.
how many times does this guy drink in a match?
Its common in poker too when players bluff or try to act casual. In his case i would say its because he was trying to act casual. Lol
Repping mah boiis Gruul. So happy to see Gruul win.

7:10 Lethal
Wait, Depraz won match 1 and Dominguez won match 2. How does that make Dominguez when the championship? Aren't they 1 and 1? Am I missing something?
You may have skipped through and missed it like I originally did. Dominguez won games 2 and 3
15:30 for end of game 2
Dominguez came in from winners bracket, depraz from loosers.
So dominguez needs to only win 1 match while depraz needed to win 2 matches
@@johans8553 Thanks! Did not know that.
amazing
I play this deck - why am I not in the finals?
You probably suck at Magic.
@@MegaAmazingpeter 🤣
the game is somewhat luck
Arguable. Yeah there may be a little luck in not getting mana screwed/flooded, but good decks make that less likely. Also mana curves are a thing precisely to stop that from happening
Knowing how to play the deck and strategy/experience is most important
Im yugioh player but im so proud about Spaniards doing really well in Magic!! #CongratsssJavi
I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh TCG... Can you tell me the current situation of the game?
I started again and I really didn’t enjoy this game... the new mechanics are boring and a game lasts 2/3 rounds
@@UBEnforces Last I checked, decks have gotten way too consistent and powerful, so games are mostly the same every time with minor variations, and they're decided more by the draw and matchup than player skill.
Thalai made it
You win real money?
Yes you do if your pro lvl good
I WANT THIS GAME ON MAC PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE
Macs are a joke bro
yo way you give them 2 Mana as always the **** Game did and 5 turns no mana?
The Jerseys and sport clothing🤣🤣🤣
I would prefer paper magic tbh
Right.. they are sitting RIGHT in front of each other with the fucking screens in their face. I appreciate Arena for a good game on the NET with 1000s of players available anytime.. but when they play right in front of each other with PC's, they look just like idiots to me xD
@@philippebarbie3829 it makes it easier for people watching on TV. Especially if you don't know all the cards and just watch for fun. Its easier to see all the triggers and makes the game more understandable for someone who does play very much or at all. I think it's a good move to have these events on the Arena client.
Why does this channel get no love?
I was thinking the same thing hardly any subscribers
And you have to ask?
1. It's on Arena
2. Can't see what the players are doing
3. Standard has been garbage for some time
Standad is gonna get even more garbage now by having Oko package as the only tier 1 deck LOL power creep
Why does he have to win two matches
Because javier was at the top. So in order for him to lose the gay guy has to beat him twice
terrible keep by Depraz in the last game.
Not sure why he mulled lol
Terrible? He's playing Bant Golos, those degenerates love a hand of all lands
Jonathan Zuchowski DEM BANT GOLOS DEGENERATES
money playing magic get your kids hooked early fortnight as well
Tabletop magic>>>>>
Do you guys think that when planeswalkers ETB there should be an opportunity for the opponent to play instants before they tick up? Fry would then kill Oko or you could bounce mini tef before it bounces something and draws etc. Such a rule change would placate the mass of players complaining about the state of standard and power creep. Nissa who shakes is also pretty obnoxious. Remember ages ago when you could activate creature abilities after they received lethal damage because there was a damage on the stack phase? New players would be horrified to know we played that way in the past. It only makes sense that PW could be interrupted. It might take too many resources to program such a rule change but it would really open up deck diversity.
Or at least a new instant speed spell to 'counter Planeswalker ability' just like you can counter an opponent casting a spell who in theory is a Planeswalker themselves
The issue i see with these "pro" games is that i see the same decks in the normal ladder in all ranks. Sure they are played differently here but its not something awe inspiring that nobody ever seen in normal games.
If they created some brew-only enviroment it would be more interesting than seeing the same meta decks i played against in the ladder countless times
Why do you think it's the meta?
There's a limited number of viable deck combinations, and the best ones are going to be by far the most popular. Inevitably the best decks are going to be the ones everyone trying to do good play.
This argument never makes sense to me, you could say the same thing about any pro sport.
i like online version of mtg, in paper version.... im not sure what trigger what...
Learn the game maybe?
This is not the online version byt the way, that'd be Magic Online.
Cause the game has Arena instead of Online doesn't make it not online LOL what a dumbass answer XD
@@golDroger88 Hey, lets be nice. Everyone has to start somewhere, and he is just saying its nice that the video games automatically resolve triggers.
@@JamesZeroSix I'm sure that'll help him learn the game well and prepare him for paper play. Wait...
@@golDroger88 I've been playing this games for almost 20 years and I still don't get why you have to gatekeep it. The arena triggers are actually helpful and if you watch the amount of missed triggers in pro tours and casual content, it kinda makes sense why OP likes it.
FotD banned thank god.
now just waiting for Oko the Broko to be banned
@@Thepianoman77 his abilities are mad good, but there is a lot of planeswalker removal in standard. i really don't think he needs banning tbh. in fact, if they reprinted field of ruin or ghost quarter, FotD may not have needed to be banned either.

Paper magic >
Magic is played with cards
This double lose elimination system ruins the excitement of the finals. They must come up with another way of cashing up advantages or handicaps before the final. because:
1. The player with the advantage has bascially 75% of winning the whole thing (I take for granted that they will be both very competent and play strong decks since they are in a Mythic championship finals). This dumps down the interest.
2. It gets anti climactic. In this finals for example Depraz is winning the first match and its a mehhh feeing knowing that this basically means nothing. And even if Dominguez would win first match it would also feel less special knowing he had a lifeline either way. Only match 2 feels kind of "special" but in many cases we will never even get there.
3. It feels weird/unfair. I just watched a final where both players won 3 games but one of them prevailed because of tournament rules and not because he actually performed better in matter of winning. I believe the winner should be chosen by the performance in the finals. This victory looks too gimmicky.
Is called a loser bracket, when someone loses it goes to that bracket and in the finals you have the only full winner from the winners bracket (0 loses which means he has to lose 2) and the winner of the loser brackets (the reason for only 1 lose is cause he already has in record his first lose). In the end to get eliminated you have to get 2 loses, this is why the finals is done this way.
And not both players won 3 games, both players won 1 match which is what counts (match consist of 2-3 games in which the player to get 2 wins first is the declare winner). Now to clarify the golos player already had 1 lost match from a previous match up which is the reason only 1 more lost match was enough for Javier to be the winner, in the other hand Javier reaching finals without been sent to the losers bracket he had 0 loses in record so he had to lose 2 matches in total to lose this finals.
you have to view it over the course of the entire tournament not just a single match. if they got rid of that rule (which btw is a common tournament format) and only the first match counts, then both of them have lost only one game that entire tournament but somehow one of them is declared a winner. This situation can be made even more unfair because the player starting with 0 losses in the finals might even be the one to have knocked down the other finalist to the losers bracket in the first place. Single Elimination Tournaments especially in card-deck based games suffer from the fact that sometimes luck of the draw creates a final winner that just shouldnt be there because of luck of the draw. Double Elimination makes for more Interesting matches between better competitors which in turn makes the entire tournament a better watch for the viewer.
In double elimination as the name suggests you have to lose two matches to get knocked out. Being the upper bracket winner means you have not lost the whole tour while the player that comes from the lower bracket has lost once. So that means that for player one to be out he has to lose two times.
Great....field of the dead. Wow. So original and clever. So sick of it. So happy its banned now.
Oko player here LOL you so original
@@bladorac yep. Sounds about right
Oko is better than field...but not by much.
Oko is making and will keep making standard very very boring. Bye bye aggro bye bye midrange bye bye combos and maybe 1 or 2 sneaky control decks will stay the rest OKO 99%. Gotta sell packs you know. Ban the card beating the power creep that has to sell your new set good job wizard. Not a fan of magic the gathering mythic championship being on a computer game as a renown tcg
Can’t cheat on the computer
Agreed. It changes the nature of the game. Not being able to read opponents is a serious setback.
So the person who lost more won? Makes sense
Not sure what you mean.
That "Magic Time" ad was almost good... why did they go "Full Fantasy" though... the nightmare that is the post 2008 Market... this was lazy advertising development. That ad was made for current magic players and nobody else, pretty much
It's almost like this video is meant for Magic the Gathering nerds
I want to get into Magic, but its too dependent on the 'luck of the draw' and less on skill.
Johnnie C you could think that at first sight but trust me it’s wrong. A well built deck has strong win conditions and solid draw spells that allow choices and strategic decisions
The deck building aspect in competitive format is also a very skill intensive thing
Very wrong you can add search power and combos that dont or cant be stopped early game. By turn three i usually win with three 7/12 and yes standard.
Yes and no, kinda. Much as I hate what this game is at this point in my life, skillwise its a lot like Poker. Playing into and away from probabilities and taking a consistent view in terms of win/loss rate. The land system is awful though.
@@TheAcad3mic at this point no not really our land system is pretty consitent

...no it isn't.
junky game
Change the set design to more silver... or something, that matte black metal is so boring, players disappear into the stage... who signed off on this stage design... so weird. This is like some union stage dudes, in their 50s, from the music staging industry, were asked to set up a stage
blue decks are an abomination
We don't play with paper cards anymore??? This I think is stupid!
Why don't you take a look around before jumping to conclusions? Many professional tournaments are still played with regular Magic cards-just not this one
Pls add this game on Android I don't have pc 😱😭
they should orginze sjizzle like this for paper players: The customers that made WOTC big. The need for copying hearthstone makes my head blow off.... GP's aka Magic fest aren't even streamed any more. A bankruptcy would be well deserved for WOTC for letting all those FNM warrior down.
Im sorry but ESPORTS suck bring back the PRO TOUR make these guys work with REAL magic cards. if this goes on to long ARENA will kill paper magic
I personally appreciate your concern about Arena killing the physical game (money still goes to the same place though) but for me without Arena, I wouldn't be able to play let alone compete. Also, doesn't mean ESPORTS sucks. quite the contrary. it incentivizes competition and puts money in the pockets of gamers; not to mention builds up the industry overall, ensuring: better games. better content. better players. it's good for everyone regardless of it hurts the paper version. even if Arena hurts physical cards sales, it won't ever completely kill it; each block is released in tandem. All in all this is a good direction from a marketing standpoint too. MTG hasn't had this much attention or fan base in... well, ever. but I totally get what you're saying. I urge you to "pro - con" the issue, I believe you'll come to a similar conclusion. it's a good sign when gamers can make a career out of gaming.
What a joke
Pinho9
Which part was a joke
The part that his bullshit Oko package broken deck didn't make it to the finals LOL
So stupid watching them sitting there playing on Arena instead of with actual cards.
Generic compared to chess
That whole thing was just lame, I love magic and have for almost the entire time it's been available, but pro Tours lolololololol come on, your pro what, pro card shopper lolol how silly this is if you really think about it seriously your teaching for something that isnt really there!!! Makes me embarrassed to say I play magic if people think it's more than it really is! I get it though you want it to be more than it really is but alas it's not it's just cards and everybody can have the same best deck if your a pro card shopper lololol
@Brandon Munoz ah yes lamemens terms! Sorry, so I have played TCG games almost as far back as they have been in existence and people seem to take little things and make them bigger than they are hence MTG. If you really think about it how does this transfer to a professional sporting event?? You buy cards and there is always a best build always, one can easily find it and buy the cards to build it everybody can! So what I'm trying to say is there really isnt any skill involved no matter how much you want to believe there is, it's all luck on the card draws! That being said it's silly to think someone is a pro luck drawer with a big wallet!! Just like mobile games it's all wallet warriors trying to find the best deck in the soup of cards that exist! So in turn once the best deck is found everybody builds it and luck is what picks the winner not skill not intelligence not physical fitness just luck of draw!! Is that english enough for you buddy!! I hope so I'm scared of heights so I cant dumb it down any further!
@Brandon Munoz you asked so I answered. Good day!
You could not PAY me to enter an online tournament to play this broken game. Real life sure, because it makes sense and follows the laws of the universe. This games shuffler is tragically broken. Winner of a tournament is 25% skill , 75% shuffler giving you what you need regardless of the laws of probability. And yes I can compare it to real life, having played for years and in many tournaments.
