Can we all just take a moment to say Mike is screwed. His Aunt who he was in a legal case with is dead at his house. His place of employment is gone, and employer dead, or dieing. Vanessa was nearly dead from the same place, and was dropped off at a hospital by Mike. There was no witness to what happened, and mike has a history with strong drugs. He's going to jail. Sequel better be named 5 nights at prison.

Personally I don’t think Mike Schmidt will be the main character in the next movie instead I think it will be Michael Afton which is what happens in the games. I did think at one point that Mike took his mums surname instead of his dads for whatever reason but that wouldn’t make sense since Vanessa did and it was Shelly(unless she’s married). In the games Schmidt is thought to be Mike Afton but for the movies I’m still a bit confused on the whole matter.

There's a few things that Alex gets wrong here:
1. The aunt wants Abby so she can get money from the state
2. Mike doesn't take the pills because he has trouble falling asleep, he takes them to keep having that same dream.
3. Mike and Vanessa weren't kidnapped, they snuck in and Vanessa took him into a bunker.
4. William wasn't only locked in a closet, the springlocks in his suit went off, so he was being slowly crushed and impaled and left to die in the closet.
I feel like this movie is only properly enjoyed by people who are already familiar with the lore. Otherwise...

Tbh the movie didn't stick to the lore that well at all, Vanessa isn't Willam's daughter, Mike Schmidt is Michael Afton's fake name, William should be at least 70 years old, the doors don't behave the same, Mike slept through about 3 nights without any problems, animatronics don't behave normally. For the last Fnaf project Scott Cawthon did, was pretty shit

My kids have been way deep in the FNAF lore and slowly sucked me in too. It’s so weirdly dark and disturbing, how the heck did this become a thing for kids? Of course we had those twisted “Are you afraid of the dark?” stories when I was a kid, so I can’t really say anything.
FNAF is 13+ but has kids in the fandom.
I wish it weren't for kids. The devs trying to pander to kids is watering down the franchise. It isn't scary anymore.
Recently, it's begun to lean more towards kids, and it's made a lot worse by how lots of CZcams channels and outside parties take the characters and names and just put into weird little animations and stuff.
CZcams made it a thing for kids because all the let's play gamers played it, like they do many indie horror games, which yes kids watch, but they usually don't get attached to it like that. What made it an exception is the mascot type characters. Just got a chord with kids extra I guess. That's why if you notice there's some indie devs now purposely making horror games with "cute" characters (bendy, poppy, etc) hoping to strike gold. The first FNAF was actually nothing special, you sat in a room with monitors hitting buttons to block access to your room. Couldn't even walk around. The dev was just that lucky with these characters being a draw for a younger audience... However, he's far into now and the last FNAF game was totally made for kids on purpose. The main protagonist is even a kid vs the previous story lines about adults working at a run down pizza joint.
TL;TR The dev caught lightening in a bottle, helped by how many kids watch CZcams let's players.
It's essentially baby's first horror game -- dark and scary, but not TOO dark and scary. I say this as a long time fan myself.
I love it as a FNAF fan, but as a regular person, I can't say much else. I don't feel like someone who hasn't had any experience with the games or books will enjoy it as much

I feel like Alex missed so much here. The killer didn't just get locked in the storage room, the springlocks were activated causing them to pierce his skin. This was clearly explained in an earlier scene. Also, Mike's dad didn't "leave" it's heavily implied he "unalived" himself.
Theres also the Aunt's motivation being stated by Mike as being the money Mike is suppose to be receiving as assistance for taking care of Abby

Also worth mentioning that thing he said about Vanessa getting “all weird about Abby being there”. Abby literally got electrocuted from Bonnie’s guitar on accident so she was just looking out for her safety 😵💫

Super important to realize that this movie is more of a thriller and less of a straight-up horror movie. They could have made it rated R and gone all out with the gore, but there are plenty of young/teenage fans that also want to see the movie, so they decided to make it PG-13 instead to allow them to have access to it and not completely traumatize them. Hence the emphasis on the story and the tension with more implied kills instead of onscreen ones.
As someone who watched coraline as a little kid I believe whatever they’d come up with would terrify kids a tad less than coraline did.

I was thinking that actually seeing the gory side of this story would be more traumatizing for the younger viewers than just hearing about it and seeing the 8-bit version we get in the games. Especially the Springtrap death scene from FNAF 3. IMO it was a good call to change the context of that scene to make it slower and less gory than the one in the games, because actually showing all that blood and flesh-tearing they describe in the books would be a lot. Plus, making it rated R might have turned the movie into a cheap gorefest instead of a proper story that pays respect to the original games.

Fnaf has never been that gory and it was going to be very story heavy no matter what rating it got. The games have very deep lore, you can’t make a Fnaf movie without focusing on it a lot. Plus a large portion of the fans are on the younger side so it makes sense the PG - 13 rating.
I didn't expect it to be a masterpiece, but it's definitely a sweet celebration of the series and fanbase. The characters were well done, the set designs were really good, and for once, a child was actually written like a child actually acts like. Like, I wasn't expecting Abby to be so adorable, but the way she interacts with Freddy and the gang was so cute.

I've been a fan since about the time the second game really popped off, and while I'm not part of the intended demographic ((I'm in my early 30s, but I'm also Autistic with ADHD, so this series does work great for hyperfixation and task management)), but I've got virtually all the games, read all the books and regularly listen to theory videos, icebergs, and flood of fan songs. This movie was an absolute treat for fans. Jim Henson's Creature Shop did a great job with bringing the characters to life! 😁

Yeah I think people are forgetting that this movie is mostly made by a guy who happened to make a game that got extremely popular, he ain't no hollywood genius and that's okay. I am not a fan of the series but am simply interested in the characters and story and I think that this movie being targeted so much towards the fans is not a bad thing at all. Scott wanted a gift for his fans and that's what this is, you can't expect any regular horror fan who doesn't know a thing about fnaf to be in love with this movie. It gives me a bit the same vibes as IT, not good in terms of being actually scary, but the atmosphere and story are there

I don’t think it was really aimed for anyone else but fans considering that they showed the main villain in the trailers.

@cyberdraws1770 Well it combines both game lore and book lore to create its own separate a.u (Alternate universe). That was already confirmed before the movie. And you can still go with a basic knowledge and understand. Tbh they made it quite easy. They still had the plot of William killing 5 kids, having them be animatronics. And the character Mike being the main character. And Cassidy/Golden Freddy being the vengeful one still is in there too. The only major change being Vanessa and Mike, with their familial roles being reversed. How it gets resolved with his sister using the drawings is directly pulled from the book. I think the way they pulled it off still works well a lot.
i think they shuda balanced it out instead of making a soley fan film. But oh well since its made a shit ton of money on opening weekend, idts anyone involved is bothered about reviews.
Honestly fascinating because I only ever played a few minutes of the original game so I knew nothing about the lore and I found myself very interested in the story and the lore that I honestly didn't even know was in the game until one of my friends told me after i watched it. I thought it was a very well-made movie. This is why I'm convinced when I get into the industry people won't like my movies, I seem to love a whole lot of movies that people really don't like.

The biggest disappointment I had with the film is not once does Mike ever have to hole up in the office and stop the animatronics getting in. Granted, I’m not sure how they would have gone about that since the robots are a little more intelligent than they are in the games and don’t stop at 6 A.M., but it’s like one of the core parts of the games, y’know?
Yeah and also Afton being Vanessa’s dad instead of Mike’s. It was such a massive lore reveal that William and Mike were father and son and it made no sense to give Vanessa and William the parent and child treatment.
Mike is obviously Michael Afton, Garett is the Crying Child, Abby is Elizabeth, and of course you have William Afton being the killer. The Afton family was right there, yet they didn’t go for it.

At least they kinda had it when he had to hold the vent closed when the cupcake tried to get in... but yeah, I wish at least once, he used the door button to block them off or something. Like the scene where he tries the exit door he couldve closed the security room right next to it instead and got caught by the other door maybe

I feel that we should normalize franchises making movies that are for fans. Not every movie has to bring in masses of new fans. I respect Scott’s decision to serve his current fan community rather than make a greedy attempt to increase the community.
normalise? that's literally what IP-franchise films exist on. It's the norm nowadays to make a movie that already has a dedicated fanbase. I mean that's what people criticised Ahsoka for as well. And honestly when it comes to FNAF, I can respect it, it is made out of love for the fans rather than the more nihilistically soulless cash-grabs that other studios lean towards. Because FNAF actually had full-on animatronics, and was actually a faithful game adaptation.
We should normalize making good movies with coherent plots that bring something new that we haven't seen 1000 times before

I honestly really wished they did it like the horror movie origin stories like Michael Meyers or Leatherface. There’s so much back story to William Afton and what drove him to do it and his descent into madness until he was so far gone he wasn’t even human anymore and just about anybody who was a part of his life suffered for it. At least then the whole “the movie was meant for the fans” would feel more like it since it’s got a majority of the pieces from the game series and ties it all together to tell the big story.
Also just scrap the whole Vanessa nonsense, he had PLENTY of children to pick from that already came with their own trauma packages.
The fact about the many plot twists in the movie makes sense that it’s a lot for the plot since the fnaf fans know the lore is big, REALLY big. It makes sense that it would make the movie pretty confusing for people without knowledge of the game.

my one issue with the movie is it never got the ambiance of the games which is what made them scary. Everyone says fnaf is a jumpscare game but thats not true. The feeling of sitting in the office with the subtle details and noises while stressing about animatronic management is whwre the horror came from

Even as a huge fan of the games, I always knew that it would be harshly rated by critics, but loved by the fans. That being said, I can only describe this movie as a love letter for fans. It wasn't without its flaws, but I do think it was worth the 8 year wait, and that Blumhouse were the perfect people for it. I'm very curious to see how they continue to make future sequels!

A movie about a game gets hyped up for all audiences and then crashes and burns with all audiences expect for those who actually loved the game. therefore the film company thinks its pointless to make future sequels. happened with WOW's movie. It doesn't matter, but you can't face the fact that the film was disapointing, it was full of bunch of random things, a lot of questions weren't answered like "Where is Garrets body?", "Garett was killed but where is he now?", " Why would Steve/William start to kill, what's the reason?", "Where tf is Mike's and Abbys dad?"
And a lot more.
Plot holes are just triggering, and I really felt like I am whatching fanmade full of game/books theorys without any game/book example.
Can you imagine waiting for years for an adaptation to get this? AND WITH PRODUCER LIKE BLUMHOUSE?! Why they didn't do a horror? Who knows, but there was nothing from horror there exept from Guard being killed and those jerks being killed on screen.

But almost all the scenes, like those with taxi, were used before, and it wasn't an original side of comedy.
The best part of the movie was Matpat with his "but it's just a theory".
And if you are good with Scott probably trolling us the whole time with advertising a horror movie and in the end he gave us a comedy, then go on, but I can say that I didn't like that movie.
They did Spring Bonnie dirty with that screentime💀 they made us look at his goatee and glasses for a couple minutes of an interview and then way later he only wore the suit to slap up Mike and get springlocked.

you know what. Regardless of what you think of FNAF, Exorcist: Believer is far worse, far more scummy, far more nihilistically greedy and corporate and soulless. It makes a mockery of the original and its part of a 400 million deal to make a trilogy of shitty exorcist sequels. Its proper IP-cash-grab bullshit and im so glad it flopped, hope to god it ends there. So happy that Talk To Me, technically a film related to the idea of exorcisms/possession, did really well, as an original fresh take on the concept.

Financially, yes, script wise, no. Exorcist Believer was mid, very generic, but at least it had some competent actors and a consistent tone through 90% of the movie. Believer was just another one on the roster, more fodder, no one expected a lot from it, but FNaF.... that's a different story, eesh.

As someone who's exposure to FNAF begins and ends with Markiplier's lets plays of the first game and Security Breach, I had a fun time. It felt like a campfire ghost story. Not that scary, but a decent way to pass the time. I'd happily watch it again, which I can't say about too many movies these days.
I agree with you. It reminded me a lot of watching spoopy PG-13 ghost movies when I was young.
The movie was good. Everything was set up properly before the payoffs later (they could have set them up a bit more, but they did fine). All the plot twists make sense. Characters that turn out to be "villains" act weird as soon as you meet them and give off an untrustworthy "there's more going on here" sort of vibe.

I felt the same way. Yeah, this movie is genuinely not very good in a lot of ways but I had so much fun watching it and I would definitely be down to watch it again someday.
Maybe if it was free I'd be as happy lol..but for something I had to pay for I'd expect what was advertised which was a horror film

I watched like 20-40min videos worth of summary on the FNAF lore so I could understand what’s going on. And man oh man it made a difference. I learned all the lore (mostly) in like an hour. If you wanna really enjoy this movie to its fullest I’d advise you research the lore first. I found the story pretty interesting.
It took me 6 years to understand the entire lore, and I am still learning new things about the mega pizza plex
an hour is not enough lolololol. As a kid who grew up watching FNAF theories from the first game like 9 years ago and been watching theory videos since then, with the 6+ games that exist, and books, and anthology books, and minigames and AAA titles etc etc. But yeah for the first movie, and technically first game, an hour is all you need that covers the main story of children in suits and springtrap.

Well my mom and grandma watched the movie and had little to no lore on the games or books and they liked it.
It’s said during the first scene between Mike and Abby’s teacher why Jane wants Abby, and that’s to get a check from the State every month.

Example: we wanted more gore But he was surprised to See a little gore comparison to other fnaf gore.
He didn't even know about the springlock that happed he just thought that they locked William afton in a room.

Also he didn't even know the movie was a thriller not a horror.

As a fan of the franchise, though not as hardcore as some people, I really liked the movie. You can see the live put into it and that it was made for FANS. They really said "dont care about general public, this is for fans" and it shows. MatPat and Cory's appearance brought me so much joy, just sad Mark had scheduling conflicts because that would have been the cherry on top. I can see why this is confusing for nonfans but the lore is confusing so that tracks lol. The anamatronics though, so happy they went with practical. And the blonde kid playing Golden Freddy, he did menecing soooo well. So often he just made me uneasy with just a slight change of facial expression, it was just in the eyes.

I find the mentality of not caring for the general public to be so confusing. Ideally you want people to become fans of what you're showing them. It's a tough line to walk and it's why video game adaptations were hard to nail, but it's not impossible.
I can see little kids being interested in the franchise from watching the movie, but the film itself falls apart to any semblance of thought.
If this were any other movie of any other thing, you'd feel robbed if the main antagonist of the movie was only ever in 3 scenes and with a fake name in two of them for no explanation given to you at any point, but because it's FNAF you gotta know who William Afton prior to feel any satisfaction from the film's third act.

Scott Cawthon said that this was his last project, so I understand why it was more of an homage to the fans. MatPat, Dream Theory, the Fnaf song, everything was just a warm goodbye for longtime fnaf fans like me, but towards regular watchers it seems normal. I really felt happy watching this, but idk about many others

This movie is really made to be seen in theatres, by fans. Jason Blum himself has said that they prioritized making the movie as orientated to the fans as possible. I do wish it was a slightly better entry-point for non-fans, but as it is right now, I'm happy with what we've got.

Vanessa was manipulated by William, as in the games, the animatronics arent just mindless monsters, but kids, Abby is a clear stand-in for Elizabeth, Mike seeing the kids in his dreams lines up pretty well with what we learn from the recent books about how possession works, and so on. The fact that the movie doesn't follow the majorly accepted theories from the games, doesn't mean it's not lore accurate. It's doing its own thing while also respecting the source material, better than the Silver Eyes trilogy did. Let's not shit on the movie we've waited for 8 years, but be happy with what we've got. And Scott has recently gone on Reddit and said that he's taking the criticism into consideration while making the second one.

This was definitely a movie for the fans and not the critics. I got into FNAF when I was 10. I am 19 now. Yeah, the movie was weird at times, and confusing. But as someone who has been begging for a movie for NINE years it made me really damn happy. My eyes were watering in theaters. When those ending credits played and The Living Tombstone started playing, me and my friends started laughing and singing too. It’s not perfect, but it’s really special to me.

I feel like the FNAF movie is the epitome of the FNAF games.
It's not supposed to be super scary or serious. The plot is true to the FNAF games because it's kinda confusing (💀) and I think it's amazing how they actually protrayed the animatronics as kids . . . because it's what they are.
It's dumb fun for fans and I genuinely enjoyed it. The easter eggs, cameos, and all.

@@Homerboy44 As a fan of all three but especially SCP, calling it a "horror series" is weird to me. SCP can do horror, but a lot of people's stories are also completely detached from anything scary and can often be lighthearted. It's more of a mixed-genre franchise than anything.
I am a massive fnaf fan so when I saw the title I wanted to punch my screen. But it's good to see a fnaf product from the perspective of a non-fnaf fan! You should play the games tho, they are really fun and the lore is addictive!

The Freddy that was at Mike’s house was actually Golden Freddy who has the ability to teleport to places. The yellow rabbit wasn’t just locked in the back areas, he was slowly bleeding out, waiting for death. To him, he felt as if thousands of tiny needles and knifes were slicing him, he could not move because his legs were crushed, he could not see because his eyes were replaced with the animatronics eyes, and his skull was punctured. Also the fact you said Max the babysitter wasn’t answering the calls for *some reason* is so funny to me

Honestly, I feel like if they would've done a FNAF movie about the '80s it would've been a lot more interesting. The story behind all of this is extremely interesting and you get so invested, it has a lot of potential for the storyline of the movie. Talking about each child, about purple guy, maybe include baby or puppet etc.

The thing with this movie is that it was not written for everyone. This is very much a movie for the fans which is why it is absolutely packed with cameos and easter eggs that mean absolutely nothing to the uninitiated.

It's a defeatist mindset to write a movie on. "It can be mediocre because fans will like it". Ideally, you can have and should have both when adapting a work.

There are references and bits of the movie that fans will innately recognize where the layman will not and a lot easter eggs and lore that the fans are already more interested in, the target demographic is not the general public, its why(alongside other reasons) they didnt push for a grand premiere or any of the other hollywood nonsense for the movie. If you have a problem with that then you have a problem with literally any movie which specifically targets a demographic.
At the end of the day, it’s still a movie for FNAF. People who’ve grown up with this, like myself, can’t help but adore it. This was made for the fans, after all.

The directors and marketing of the movie has always been open and honest about the target audience. The fans. They've all stated that this movie is primarily for the fans. So it's understandable that normal people wouldn't really like this movie as much.

I was confused by the logic used for #2 by the writers... why would she want custody over a child she views as a burden for some money from the state when she clearly already has a bunch of money as indicated throughout the movie? She's probably spent a lot and plans to spend even more to gain custody of the child anyway- it's not even a worthy investment from her perspective smh

To be fair though Alex, this movie explains the plot holes of the games since the games vaguely explains the backstory of the place and how it is haunted and creepy. That is why this movie is full of backstory about the protagonist and the antagonist, and I think Scott did a pretty good job filling in those plot holes, but there are still questions left to be answered. Maybe in the next movies we can finally get those answers we are hoping for. Peace!

Every clip you showed made me smile, as a FNAF fan. I might not have read the books or care as much about the later games, but I just loved what this looks like. Makes me think I'll actually check it out myself.
I find Scott's story really inspiring. He started as a failed video game creator, made it HUGE with a viral video game that he successfully turned into a franchise so huge it's lasted a decade and reached across multiple platforms, and still turns out things meant for fans and doesn't sell out to what will appeal to the masses.

I saw the movie pretty much right after watching the almost 9 hour fnaf lore video, so it was fun to watch for any Easter eggs and such. That said, while it’s a love letter to the fans (which isn’t a bad thing necessarily), it’s not that great for anyone else, given the sheer amount of backstory and trauma dumping. I mean, I get it, but like jeez it could’ve done with cutting out certain plotlines and either add in more scares or just…. better writing lol. I was pretty happy with the movie overall, but I can see why some people would be like “this movie is mid as hell”
As someone who knew literally nothing about the lore or anything except for just the names of the animatronics, I loved this movie
As a FNAF fan, the movie was enjoyable to watch. I didn’t really like some of the inconsistencies with lore, but I really loved watching the animatronics on screen. Though, much of my enjoyment definitely came from being a hardcore fan.
Well it's based off the book lore not the canon lore so that's why it's inconsistent. They were also just trying to create a new timeline and story with this movie.
Every time the Animatronics were on screen (including damn Balloon Boy and cupcake) I would SQUEAL because I loved what Blumhouse did. Like holy fuck it's BEAUTIFUL!!

@@Magical-N in the first game, there's a "rules of safety" poster in one of the hall corner cams that rarely changes to newspaper clippings talking about the missing children's incident. nothing is directly stated ofc in true fnaf fashion but it talks about how kids went missing and the animatronics started to smell and ooze blood afterward 👍 so yeah you're unlikely to gather all this on a casual playthrough but it's been in the lore since the beginning lol

My parents knew next to nothing about it and thought it was ok, enjoyable to see once... I've played the games and seen a few MatPat videos about it and liked it, my sister was a huge fan and loved it. I think it was more enjoyable in theaters because the interaction made it better. My parents and I loved Matthew Lillard, MatPat, the music and the animatronics mostly.
Not for everybody, a wet dream for fans. When MatPat came on screen, everyone in the theater cheered louder than in No Way Home with Tobey Maguire. One of my favorite movie theater experiences ever. 😂 AND dropped his tag line! It was truly amazing hahaha.

As someone who follows the fnaf lore it was really enjoyable. It has lots of easter eggs in it and things that are really different from the games. Also the movie with the back stories is just a fraction of the games lore so I dont really think its a big deal. But I think it was a little weird at times, like when they built the fort and the animatronics acted all friendly, and I would have liked to see more scary parts other than the ballon boy jumpscares and the death of the intruders and the first security guard.
All in all I think its a more enjoyable experience if you know at least the main outlines of the games lore. And Dawko made a really good video explaining all of the easter eggs in the movie so i can recommend that to anyone interested.

The main reason people or critics don't like it is the lack of scares and not being able to understand the story. Its really only enjoyable to the people who love the lore of it, and it's pretty good to people as long as they just know what it is

It wasn't that good of a movie. I enjoyed it a bit mainly because I was surrounded in the theater by a bunch of people cheering. A critics job is to criticize and for what the movie promised and was showing in the trailers, it wasn't good.

So if Jane is dead... Why didn't Mike or Abby bring it up after the altercation? Unless Cassidy only knocked her out and Jane had no memory of what happened and went home. Wouldnt they show proof if she was dead though? Like showing a puddle of blood beside her or something?

What I'm getting from reviews and comments is that it was a movie with a specific target audience that respected said audience and doesn't precisely try to tailor it to others (if it does great, but the fans are the real priority). And honestly, I respect that and am happy for the ppl who worked on it that the movie seems to be doing well, even if I'm definitely not part of its target audience
I disrespect that. Every movie should be enjoyable. It doesn't have to be bad to cater fans

You know normally I’m critical about horror movies and even though this one wasn’t at all hella great, I really do respect it for what it does for the people who love the franchise. It’s basically the creator saying, thanks for being a fan so here’s a live action that you can have forever. I can respect that completely.

14:49 the thing is, this is exactly what the fans kinda want.... we really like the lore, and thats one of the main reasons why we wanted to see it.
Honestly, they really did portray the personalities of every animatronic pretty well, which were shown more in games like UCN and Freddy in Space(non-canon but they have similar personalities in games like this and FNAF World.) It made them actually seem like kids, wonder how they will do the whole Agony Remant Golden Freddy thing, because I don't know if they will do the William Hell arc or not.
Dude, Crying Child would never. Golden Freddy is the least scary of the animatronics, no matter what Cassidy is doing. Also, I feel like the Freddy mask was the remnant extractor. Why else would William/Henry make it?
I hope remnant and sci-fi won't be included.

As a stand alone horror movie with no context, it’s not the best. But that’s ok! I think that they knew that this was a 30 mil dollar love letter to the fans, and it was worth it!
