  • Safety Integrity Level is a way to describe the reliability of an automated safety instrumented function. We’ll understand how it relates to a HAZOP and LOPA, what it means to have a SIL-rated safety instrumented function, and how conducting a SIL study creates long-term value.

My opinions on this case from the vedio lecture at the end
1.We can use redundant solenoid valves .
2 we can convert the wirings to the module which have redundancy options
3.We can go with SIL 3 shutdown valve

Those are all possible solutions to reducing the PFD and increasing the RRF! Since the final element valve was our weakest link in the safety shutdown, our RRF can be greatly reduced by increasing the integrity of the valve. We may only need to increase the valve to a SIL 2 rated valve to meet our target as SIL 3 rated equipment is generally quite costly.

    Thanks for sharing!
Sorry just to clarify why sil 3 instruments cannot solve? Do you just mean it's too costly.
