    I love the 100 series, I don't think I'll ever own another vehicle. Currently getting mine prepared for towing with the family around Australia. Love the insight mate. I detailed my suspension over on my channel. Engineer was happy to sign off on a 3550 gvm upgrade for me. I did the brakes and braided lines while I was there. Couldn't be happier with how it stops now.
    PDI front mount with the heavy duty trans cooler, along with an 18g turbo to go in next.
    Have you upgraded your valve body?

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Před rokem +1

      Yeh thats awesome! Ive got a few electrical gremlins im trying to sort out first then i can look at the GVM upgrade, we wont be towing full time again until early next year so have a bit of time up my sleeve.
      Ive not felt the need for any extra power beyond what ive got now which is nice so haven’t looked down the path of a new turbo but its going in for an intake clean and valve clearance adjustment next week, flush all the fluids and fix a couple of leaks so it will probably feel like a new car after that.
      Im no mechanic but valve body is for auto transmissions right?
      Mines a 5 speed manual.

    I agree with you 100% I had a 5 year old 1997 40th anniversary 80 series Landcruiser 1HD-FT Auto, was a wicked tourer, then went to a 2006 HDJ100R 100 series 1HD-FTE like yours and had the 5 speed auto, both of them were amazing, the 100 had a Gturbo upgrade and a few other things, towed our 24ft Jayco Sterling family van back in the day. One of the best engines to date, don't know of any other engine that is better especially something that is known for doing a million kilometres without any major overhaul. I just wish I had of kept my 80 and the 100, now with the late model Hilux which suits us these days with a smaller van. You'll probably see my old 80 and 100 in my videos I think I've still got them up from years ago. Pin7 mod is definitely a great thing to do I did that to mine too. Don't ever sell it! Cheers take it easy mate!

    Another awesome video Mark. I totally agree with you. Nothing will match the 100 series with a FTE in it ( except maybe my 2005 HDJ78 Troopy with a FTE 😂) We have been on the road for nearly 12 months now towing our 2018 22ft New Age Manta Ray Enduro. My Troopy has been totally set up for towing and touring. I gave it a mid life with a big PDI front mount intercooler, Grunter G turbo running 25psi, new injectors, new pump and it tows the van like nothing. We are always right up on our GCM weights and i wouldnt have another car again.

    Good video Mark. I agree with most of what you said. I too have a 2005 100 series. I also have bilstein shocks, diff drop, extended cv’s and new torsion bars, for the lift, and air bags. However I use it for camping and backup for towing only. I have a brand new V6 turbo diesel Ford Ranger, I’ve fitted auto airbags, nothing else. My off road van has an extreme amount of ground clearance, it’s 3.5t. But with it full of everything only 3.2. Putting the better fuel economy aside my Ranger has a larger payload than my 100 landcruiser. That’s with both carrying the same gear. I had my combo professionally weighted and the cruiser scraped in. The Ranger when weighed had stacks left. I’m keeping my cruiser for camping and 4x4 trips as I reckon it’s better off road. Ranger for towing, and with a van pushing 3.2t I’m not going anywhere too nasty. I love my 100 as well.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Před rokem +1

      I have heard those new Rangers are proving there worth, i just got to have a look at one in person yesterday and they are really nice. Id stay away from a 4 cylinder ute for towing this size van but id definitely consider a V6 ranger!

  • @ClissaT
    @ClissaT Před rokem +1

    Yours is ONLY 17yrs old. Mine is 35yrs old and I have no reason to get something younger! It has had a complete rebuild on each 15th year anniversary. So it has had 2 rebuilds. The second rebuild it got a 1HT engine (120 thousand k's old) only because the original engine was 500,000 k's on the clock.It's the same engine as this car in this video has. I've done 250thousand k's with the 1HT with no issues other than a new set of injectors which I probably would have got anyway and an oil pump which of course comes out of the blue. The body has also had the same rigorous treatment so no rust and no bog anywhere and always top quality new paint. It now has a heavy duty fibreglass torret over the single cab.
    I hate vehicles that beep at me and I despise all the mod cons for which I have no use. It does have a stereo but I can never tune the damn thing and it doesn't have a tape player so it is useless. When I got it I told them I needed something that would work in the bush with no internet, but seems such a thing does not exist.
    So the older vehicle serves me very well. It has a/c and that is all I need. It gets serviced as required and keeps running. Takes me wherever I want to go. What more do I need?

      @SteveBurns80 Před rokem +1

      @@Ourwhittleadventure The torsion sprung IFS on the 100 isn't really that bad if you set it up correctly, and will be way more comfortable than any live axle rig. Unfortunately, not many pros really know how.
      To get the most out the IFS, you need to do a few things...
      1. Upgrade the torsion springs to cope with all that extra weight.
      2. Find high performance, longer shocks, not many aftermarket shocks will provide anything longer than the factory shock length, this is a real problem when you do a 50mm lift. You must maintain around 70mm of droop when doing a lift on these rigs and that's impossible for the majority of suspension kits out there. The only shocks that I know of are the Icons and Dobinsons IMS.
      3. Upgrad upper control arms, required for clearance of the longer shock bodies and maintaining correct wheel alignment when lifted.
      4. Diff drop is only required if doing 50mm or more of lift, it's a complete waste of money for lifts under 50mm.
      5. Welding around the lower control arms (known weak spot) where the torsion springs bolt on, and also weld the strengthening brackets to the arms as well.
      6. Replace the old rubber bushings in the lower control arms and chassis with Superpro poly.
      7. Laminate/weld the adjusting arms for the torsion springs, these have also been known to break when using HD torsion springs.
      7. Install HD rear swaybar, as this helps the front end articulate better and also introduces a bit more oversteer and stability in corners.
      8. Install long travel rear shocks and coils, you'll require extended bumpstops, swaybar links and longer central brake line.
      I did all this with Icon cdc shocks and Slinky long travel kit from Autocraft. Best 5k I ever spent. It's also rated/engineered for the 3500kg gvm upgrade.
      Along with front and rear lockers and reduction gears, it keeps up nicely with my mates fte swapped 105 on 35s. 😉

    Touota motors 22re..5vzfe.. 22rze...4age..4agze.. are better motors...
    5vzfe here in the US consistently hut 300k+ miles... My 96 4runner all manual 4x4 has 407k.. Ranges 19-22 mpg consistently..

      I dont think we have those motors over here but this motor is common to do over 500k kms too, mines only just run in at 270k

      Ah yeh right, im not too familiar with the older models but you see enough of them around they must be good.
      Its a shame you don’t have it over there but im sure you have something even better anyway. You guys have the Tundras don’t you? I think Toyota Aus is planning to bring them here next year, that might be a game changer to compete with the Ftrucks
