  • Robb Stark, the young wolf, the King in The North is perhaps one of the most interesting characters in the entire Game of Thrones series. Robb, although young and relatively inexperienced, united the bannermen of the north to wage war in the wake of his father Ned Starks execution at the orders of King Joffrey Baratheon. Welcome to Game Of Thronelore, this is the life of Robb Stark, The King in The North.

I hate the thought of Robb having to commit to a woman he doesnt care about for the rest of his life to be made the son in law of a man he most likely can't stomach . not a really promising proposition to cross a bridge to move forward on a war that is seemingly on the verge of ending in his victory anyway. Maybe what he could have done is marry her and then go on to distance himself from her and continue living with the woman he truly loves but that just doesn't seem like a low that robb would go to given the principles of honor that bed instilled in him

    The image of Greywind's Direwolf head attached to Robb's decapitated body is one of the most tragic and horrific moments the show captured. Arya and The Hound seeing this was also extremely hard hitting and very dramatic. His betrayal by the Frey's although something his earlier decisions caused, was still one of the worse actions that happened in the series and books. The Freys and Boltons never trusted again by anybody thereafter and rightfully so.

  • @MrGeorgeFlorcus
    @MrGeorgeFlorcus Před 4 lety +3

    I'm going through the audio books now, having watched the show first, and it's an interesting change. Obviously, as most people know, many of the characters, especially the children, are older in the T.V. show than in the book. In the T.V. show, Robb is portrayed a fiery, fierce young man; fearless, passionate, and a natural born leader. Given that he's basically a grown up, it doesn't seem odd, But in the book, he starts the Northern Rebellion when he's only 14 years old, and is crowned King In The North when he's barely 15. From the perspective of the book, you get the impression that Robb is only playing at being strong and brave, and in reality, he's just a scared, angry child playing at King because he knows its right, but has hardly any idea what he's doing.
    A perfect example of how the two versions of Robb differ is the scene where he gets into a fight with Jon Umber, and Grey Wind bites his fingers off. He initially plays it cool, like he does in the show, but one big difference in the book is how, it's revealed that later that night, when he's alone with Bran, he admits that Jon Umber actually scared him pretty badly, and he even admits that he thought he was going to kill him. Makes me feel even worse for Robb than I already did, forced to grow up so fast and in the end, it was all for nothing.

    Robb was like the Alexander the Great of Game of Thrones. He was so young, no one would think he would be able to beat and outmaneuver Tywin over and over again. He never lost a battle. However, due to his youth, he made decision that brought him to ruin and eventually death. Almost every character does that in GoT so that's okay.

    • @godemperorofmankind3.091
      @godemperorofmankind3.091 Před 4 lety +1

      no he didnt.
      yes Robb made some bad decisions here and there but by then, they only hastened inevityable defeat vs overwhelming odds.
      Robb was on the back foot as soon as Renly died. his greatest and most powerful possible ally had just been swiftly taken out and the two halves of Renly's armies went to Robb's two enemies.
      Lysa refused to help Robb in the war, which leads to her own ruin and death
      Theon refused to stay loyal to Robb which leads to his own ruin and torture.
      Doran refused to get involved against the Lannisters which resulted in the Lannisters winning and Doran on the back foot.
      Robb was counting on the Baratheon brothers to help him outnumber the Lannisters and push them into suing for peace as he stated to Catelyn. once that was no longer an option, the war was lost.
      also the fact that Balon was a bitter pathetic old man who invaded the North which led to thje fall of the capital, deaths of Osha, Luwin, Rodrick, Jojen and Hodor, and the "deaths" of Bran and Rickon.
      Roose could see that. so did Tywin and Walder so they began plotting betrayal.
      not killing Rickard Karstark kept robb in the game for a while but his defeat's inevitable by then

      Yes. It would have been nice if Jon and Robb had reunited before the red wedding. If they had allowed an opportunity for Katelyn to apologize or at least soften her behavior towards Jon before the red wedding that would have been nice too.

  • @SuperVegetaAF

    As one of the strongest leaders in the north he should have stayed alive till the final season in my opinion. He united the north, lead his banner, had thousands of soldiers ready to march onto any terroirty to claim in the name of the north yet was cut short because he didn’t marry the Frey girl. In all honesty this was done in such a lazy way, instead of going down fighting which would have made things difficult they decided to just basically butcher him into oblivion along with his men. After the wedding did the rest of the north just decide not to do anything? They just let things slide until someone else took up the mantle as king of the north? Rob stark was great, glad he survived as long as he did, John should have fought alongside him. I’m pretty sure rob starks authority could have pardoned John for his desertion. In the end only one true air to the north was left alive and he’s crippled and the three eyed raven, he doesn’t want anything to do with authority or power as the threee eyed raven has no need for such things. It was a waste, lazy story telling in the end, and John remained a bastard the entire series when he should have been named a proper stark since there are no more starks in the north now after the crowning of bran.

    Looking at English legends and myths, (I know that Robb is based on both the real Marquis of Montrose & young Edward IV), I sometimes wonder if his story parallels Robin Hood.
    It was GreatJon Umber that first got me thinking about this (wondering both at his name sounding like an invert of Little John & his son SmallJon Umber), but then I began to think about other aspects of Robin Hood's story - he ambushes and surprises his enemies, he fights against an unjust ruler (Prince/King John) and is literally bled to death by someone holding an old grudge against his family (in Robin's case, a nun from a family disinherited by his father [?]).
    Does this seem like a plausible theory to anybody?

    I never understood why they couldn't just go *around* the Twins. I swear from the maps, that river that the towers are situated upon does not cut straight across the land, separating the South from Moat Cailin further North. Why do people pay the taxes to use the crossing? Is it because no more than a few people can go around? The land edging the river is just too narrow?

    I'm surprised so many people liked Robb so much. I thought he was an okay character, but far from my favorite on the show. When the Red Wedding happened, I was surprised, but I really wasn't sad. I felt the Robb and Catelyn plot lines were both starting to run out of gas and it made sense for them to make their exit.

  • @phalynwilliams4119

    Robb’s downfall was in trusting Theon. It totally 💯 weakened his veil of invincibility. Robb never 👎 lost a battle on the field of combat. He lost because of betrayal from the one’s closest to him Theon and then Roost Bolton.
