The "Design Center" referenced is a large addition to the 1950s original on the campus of the General Motors Technical Center in Warren Michigan. That space was previously a parking lot for employees. Originally the space was used as a backdrop for publicity photography for new cars... with light poles and manicured trees in an almost courtyard setting. The 1950s through 1970s era was GM's pinnacle of design leadership. Numerous classic vehicles were produced such as the Tri-Five Chevrolets, 1961 Impala, 1963 Riviera, 1963 Corvette, 1965 Coupe deVille, 1967 Camaro, 1971 Grand Prix, 1976 Seville, 1979 Riviera, etc. Then GM design went downhill in the 1980s and 1990s with the 1984 Deville, 1986 Eldorado, 1990 Lumina, 1992 Caprice Classic, "Dustbuster" minivans, Pontiac Aztek, etc. ...vehicles openly mocked for bad design. Mary Barra has turned around GM and made it profitable on a per unit basis... and she wisely dumped the money losing Opel, Vauxhall, and Holden brands. But the result now is a much smaller share of the American market...from once over 40 percent to approximately 16 percent.

I had avoided it due to the somewhat overt styling elements inside and out (which I'm getting used to). But the content for the money and materials quality as well as the control layout really impressed, as did the strong AC front and back, and the solid, refined feel of the car on the road. I drove the base 288 hp, 279 mi range model. This is the first American-branded car I've considered in years (not counting the occasional thoughts of an F-150 that I really don't need). Great car.

Can’t pay UAW workers what should be because $120 billion of debt from the last 40 years. “We’ll go bankrupt…” , yeah because of poor design decisions and quality perception from 1996.

Plus, the early adopters have bought them so now you are trying to sell EVs to the other 80%+ of the market. The challenge to GM is not TESLA or the other traditional auto makers but rather Chinese EVs. Yes, we're still waiting for the acceleration now that GM has discontinued the Bolt, its most successful (because cheapest) EV. Maybe the Equinox will be a huge hit. Maybe Cadillac and its sclerotic dealers will actually sell customers on the benefits of battery electric when most of the cars in the showroom are EVs.

Oh, and don't forget to park your Bolt outside. It might spontaneously combust😂
