🎶Hey NJ welcome to the 30s🎶
@@jett2333oh oh oh ohhhhh! Go nj go go go!!
at 04:07 are the 2 original Tracys!!!!!!!! Left is Ricki Lake from the 1986 film, and on the right is Nikki Blonsky from the 2007 musical film!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So great to see the lovely ladies!
Not Nikki Blonsky, its the Tracy from the original Broadway cast, Marissa Winokur!
Shown first at 01:52! You see all three Tracys together. :)
@@felisd All three tracy's were not in this. Only Rikki and Marissa. Nikki did not want to participate.
@@jovanolague3161 true. I was counting the current Tracy. She counts!
@@jovanolague3161 why didn't she want to?
I love how happy the two previous Tracy’s are for Maddie! Especially Nikki, they have the biggest smiles!! So fun they included them.
Nikki’s not in this. That’s Marissa Jaret Winokur, the original Tracy on Broadway.
@@austinpuppy - I had to Google it after reading y’all’s comments. Look at what Nikki said about not being in Hairspray Live!….
"They never reached out to me. I think they kind of forgot me, which is fine. We all have our moment in the sun," the 28-year-old actress told TooFab in an interview. "I was so happy for [the other two women who played Tracy]. I think they did a great job. It was an interesting thing to sit back and watch it. I was most excited for the people who have never seen it before to be able to just turn it on the TV. It was definitely bittersweet for me, but after I watched it, I felt really good about it."
How awful for her! I loved her in Hairspray (2007)! How could they leave her out of this one?
@@Starlight_Silver To be fair, Nikki was involved in some controversy after the film (notably, her family was involved in a violent altercation with another girl at an airport, and some racist remarks were made). Since this was a "family" show, I'm guessing that is why they left her out. (Not that I agree with doing that.)
@@Starlight_Silver I hate that, she was who made me fall in love with the character
@@Starlight_Silver I can see how it seems more fitting just having the original two on each door in this number. I could imagine a third actress here may have not had a place to stand, etc. I get the impression this live show was more about the actual stage musical version than the musical movie version, hence Harvey being back as Edna.
But I could imagine if they wanted Nikki to make a cameo she could've been asked, even at a different point in the show.
Oh god- I'm getting ptsd from all the times we had to rehearse this song in my theater company's production of Hairspray lol
😅I get that!
This show is good when you're not the one suffering! My during the dodgeball scene after this with I looked up for one second and got nailed RIGHT IN THE FACE! I was little Inez so I was off stage waiting for run and tell that. That shit hurt SO BAD.
What part in the show did you play
@@echowall5967 It's kinda hard to explain. I didn't get a main role because it was my first ever show but I was ensemble with roles in small groups like I was usually choreographed separately than most of the cast (I was in kinda like Tracy's Greek chorus or like, a second Dynamites' group) and I was also one of Pinkies' girls (the girls who help Tracy and Edna get changed and measured in this song). But I would try to be in as many songs and dances as I could because I'm not white enough to only be a nicest kid but I'm also not dark enough to be solely part of the Motormouth group so sometimes I would switch. Sorry for the long explanation :)
You didnt like it?
This made me tear up cause its such a hearfelt song even though its so up beat. She’s giving her mom a new sense of confidence after being un confident for so long
The Dynamites are too fabulous
@Skyla Simmons oh I didn't notice that! that's great!!
Too bad the background vocals were too loud in the end
Yes, the dymites are fabulous!!!
The Dynamites were in the OBC (Kamilah Marshall, Judine Somerville and Shayna Steele)
The background singers always make this song for me!
Everybody has an aunt who has a smoking voice like that Edna. Amazing work. Just adorable. The Dynamites were FIERCE.
If you smoke enough, your voice can also turn into that of Harvey Fierstein’s
Such a beautiful nod to the world John Waters created. I often wonder how Divine would react to seeing the unbelievable success "Hairspray" has had and all of the leading men that have paid tribute to her with each iteration of Edna Turnblad. Most importantly, Waters has said he was thrilled at this show's success, particularly as the show has become hugely popular in high schools, finally giving the lead roles to those who always deserved it the most: the full-figured girls and the sissy boys that would grow up to be drag queens. That, with the racial plotlines that are even more timely today than ever, is truly the importance of "Hairspray."
Not sure if people knew but the 3 dynamite women were the original broadway cast as well!!! So cool they all came back for this!!!
Love Harvey, he was born to play this role!
I love how the had two of the original Tracy’s before this one and I love how they also have brown hair.
Harvey Fierstein had way too much fun with this and it's absolutely iconic
This is one of my very favorite scenes! I get all emotional at, "Where YOU been?" I adore this mother-daughter combination. Marvellous!
I wish Edna and Tracy's outfits were in the Broadway version! They are marvelous!!
As a theatre maker the most thrilling part is knowing the quick change is happening backstage. I love that!
I just love it for Harvey. Anything that captures that iconic performance, I'll take.
I live for the sparkly crimson dresses and gloves
This remains my favorite number of this production. So Much Joy!
Harvey Fierstein just makes me smile!😀
Agreed
Did many people here like this adaption?
I loved it! This and The Wiz were NBCs best!
I personally didn't like it that much
Just watching this, I definitely prefer the movie, and that’s a LOT.
I'm not crazy about this
I love Hairspray so much
like this number, it doesn't give me the glamour that it suppose to have
the lighting situation is not good, too close to reality and take me out of the fantasy
This is amazing... especially that they brought the 2 original tracys back! Well done to all!
1:51 the tracys
I have the DVD and always rewind this scene for all the Tracy's!😅
the one on the right look so similar to Nikki Blonsky
only wish nikki blonsky got an invitation :(
@@matthew.medley isn't she the one on the right? and Ricki Lake on the left?
@@alterbria the one on the right is marissa jaret winokur. She was the original Tracy on Broadway.
Finally another song from hairspray live because we have you can’t stop the beat
0:43 Tracie dancing along is the absolute most adorable thing I’ve seen
It really is the tech problems that hold these productions back, even when the performers are stellar. Awkward camera work, poor sound design, that one background singer could barely be heard with her mic. Idk if it's their budget, or lack of rehearsal time or both, but it is a shame. 😔
It’s because it was live in 2016 so not everything could be perfect.
The audience had no business being their let’s just say that this show fucked up by adding a live audience like at all
They also aren’t in a theatre. They are on a sound stage and when you film a movie or tv show you can fix all that stuff.
2021
I thought the same about rent live
4:40 will always be magical. ❤️
Is it me or the Hairspray live show is the best thing ever
So lovely seeing Marissa again! She looked like she was having more fun than Maddie 💝
4:07 I can’t believe it! Marissa Janet Winkour (Broadway’s original Tracy), Nicki Lake (Original movie Tracy) and Maddie Baillio (NBC Tracy) in the same video!
Ricki*
And don't forget Nikki Blonsky from the 2007 movie musical too. 😁💕
Saw Hairspray twice on Broadway and every movie version. I think with Divine gone, Harvey Fierstein is wonderful as Edna.
This Hairspray Live 2016 Rocks 2 I Just Lovin it Just Lovin it the 60s Classic 60s Hits Songs all of them are Favourite Songs of all time and I would ❤ say bring Back Hairspray live 2016
and Hairspray 2007 on the Big screen in the Cinema
This is so outstanding extraordinary spectacular breathtaking inspiring performance of hairspray
This is the best Tracy I have ever seen yet!!
This makes me even more excited for theatres to switch their lights back on, if that's even possible x
There is no sitting still when Hairspray comes on. 🎶
Dynamites slayin'
Put up Mama, I'm A Big Girl Now!!
Fun to see former Tracys
Everything my hearts a little heavier than usual, I always come back to this channel and watch any of the musical videos you upload. Looking at the joy on these wonderful people and live out their dreams and passion gives me my own drive to do the best with all my heart. Hairspray is my favourite musical that I hold closest to my heart, thank you for uploading this and giving me joy in my life when it has been stressful and lonely.
I googled the Hairspray Live version of this song not even 2 days ago and couldn’t find it, and now it’s uploaded! I’m so happy I can see it now 😊
Such a great song in a great performance.
I love that Harvey reprised the roll! he did it the best!
Agreed.
Sean Hayes I could not love you more!❤️❤️❤️
That last “go” 😍😍😍😍
I Just Love Hairspray Live 2016 and Hairspray 2007 because it's the same Music same Songs and same Story and it Rocks I wish Hairspray it's gonna ba History and the Legend someday
I love hairspray so much
Pure. JOY.
This song is my current earworm.
Looooooooooved this when it premiered 😩😩😩
I kind of like that Chiffon, Crystal, and Ronette from Little Shop are in this show at random intervals.
I love this too much ❤️
Great play !
Awesome!!
Love this song!!!
Harvey and Divine will for ever be the real Edna Turnblad!!
I auditioned the dynamites for my musical at school!!! :D
I love the references to Chuck Berry's Johny B. Goode and The Beatles' She Loves You in the chorus
You can hate me all you want but....
I like this more than the movie! ❤💖❤💛💚💗💙
Agree to disagree!! I feel Jennifer Hudson was too modern for Hairspray. Don't get me wrong she's fabulous but she didn't fit the role of Motormouth. There are pros and cons to both versions and I respect anyone's opinion. After all, it is Hairspray!! 😁
BeanBag343 I think this is better too!
it's ok to be wrong sometimes🙂
I literally just realised that Mr Pinky is Jack from Will and Grace!
And Chuck Baxter from Promises Promises! Who knew Fran Kubelik was also there as Velma von Tussle?
Thank you for sharing this. I love Harvey Fierstein. I think I watched Hairspray Live, still love it as much as the movie. I can't figure out, however, who is playing Mr. Pinky, but I like him.
I love this movie. ❤
There’s no reason why life can be JUST LIKE THIS!❤️❤️❤️🌈🌈
I love the dynamites so much
Marissa was with Harvey as Tracy and Edna in Broadway
Harvey and Sean, musicals new power couple
Sean Hayes is charm incarnate
1988 Tracy (Ricki Lake) and Broadway Tracy (Marissa Jaret Winokur) in the stage
yes
Anyone here for Sean Hayes? (Coincidence that his Promises, Promises cast mate Kristin Chenoweth is there too!)
By the way, two words he’d say to me if I screwed up as his worker…
YOU’RE FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRED
I love this 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
The mom sounds like she smokes 10 packs of cigarette a day
lol hahahahaha lol i know right
Yah
It’s actually just his natural voice without smoking!!!
I loved John Travolta as Edna more tho !
But this performance was amazing too
Wish they had Nikki Blonsky with the other 2 Tracys
Please guys, can you put the railway children play back on, please for my mom who grew up loving the book. please sir.
Harvey would be perfect as Ursula
1:56 Anyone remember him doing that, YOU'RE FIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRED-duh! and in _Promises, Promises_ ?

Ngl I enjoyed John Travolta more as Edna
The movie was way better than the live version

I prefer Harvey Fierstein and Michael Ball

Where can I watch this movie ??? 🥺❤
Netflix

When extroverts help their introvert friend make a breakthrough.
I think Harvey Fierstein should have played in the movie version instead of Travolta. I believe Harvey more, and I think he embodies Divine more..
Imo Harvey is the perfect Edna. He has all her little quirks and mannerisms down to a t which makes him both believable and hilarious:)
I wish they would have filmed these NBC live musicals the way they film Kennedy Center musicals...no one needs all this whacky running around and weird close up shots
If I had a time machine, I can make it into a reality.
I remember him in The Torch Song Trilogy 🙂 Happy times 🙂
Oh God the costume change for my production of this was so hard 😂
2:20 Paul Feig?
Is one of those brown haired shop workers the og Tracy from the movie???
Both of them are former Tracy Turnblads. 1 was the movie Tracy, and the other was the OG Tracy (Ricky Lake) from the original production of this.
