Tap Heat is an14 min award winning short film starring Arthur Duncan and Jason Samuels Smith that uses dance as dialogue. Different styles of tap, Urban Funk and Traditional Tap, are in conflict where society has decided to accept one style over another. The characters and their styles ultimately find common ground, when the entire cast joins in on stage in a tap dance number reminiscent of the 30's and 40's Broadway musicals, with a contemporary edge that reflects current trends in tap styles today.
Dancers include Jason Samuels Smith, Arthur Duncan, Danny Daniels, Chloe Arnold, Melinda Sullivan, and more, directed by Dean Hargrove, production by Reuben Cannon, Jeff Peters, Steven Poster ASC, and Tony award winning choreographer Danny Daniels and Emmy award winning choreographer Jason Samuel Smith. - Zábava
SALUTE TO The MASTER TEACHER Arthur Duncan May he forever keep the RHYTHM IN PARADISE ✨🤲🏽✨
Arthur Duncan was 77 when he made this film. God bless him!
Living legend Arthur Duncan will be starring in his one man show "ONE MORE TIME" at the El Portal Theatre, in North Hollywood, CA Sept 12th thru the 14th, 2014. He is truly an entertainer extraordinaire!
Zero street cred, Gotta love it!
my mother tapped dance in chicago back in the 30's as a tyke. she told us about one performance at an old persons home and a man in the audience yelled. " throw them in the garbage." she told it with good humor.
Love to see so many people I know and love in this film. Especially love to see my teacher Danny Daniels ! Everyone is fantastic in this. Such great tap dancers all in the same place at once. Love Arthur Duncan ! Shout out to Melinda, Chloe, Jason, Mindy and everyone!!!

Oh wow! The way they speak without talking! You really don’t need to understand tap language to understand this great short movie. No wonder it’s earned an award!

famousstarfield superstar tap dancer
Who is the guy getting "arrested" at 3:08 ??? I think it looks like Henry Winkler ( aka the Fonz from Happy Days) but I don't think he tapped.
Danny Daniels. The legend.
Is it just me or could the sound have been much, much better? It's like they're all using clogs during the first scene. Practically any Arthur Duncan performance on the Lawrence Welk show had crisper, sharper sound.
طه .. بردو طه ! :D
طه بردو :D
I am saddened that the dance police were not extras from Springtime for Hitler, but amazing tapping regardless.
Happy Feet!
So cheesy, but the tap was awesome
Why are people always trying to uglify tap dance and deprive it of its musical values? Dance Police is right. Tap should include grace and elegance, port de bras, and always have a tempo and consistent rhythm, preferably with syncopation, and since Gregory Hines, no one has any of that. Samuels dances like a complete klutz. The older dance has everything he lacks. So does Horace Turnbull.
And they should be dancing on wood floors!
Totally agree. Been a dancer (pro) most of my life & worked with Daniels - studied w/the best. Dapron, Kahn, Eddie Brown, Duncan. This shows everything awful about the hijacking of tap. My main objection is that this slam-bam tap is all anger and crudeness. Tap inherently is the most joyous form of dance, but it’s been robbed of that. The street style is just percussive sloppiness and rage. Very few of these people can dance other than slam out sounds. They tend to dance with their legs apart and are very heavy. Most important, this is incredibly boring for any audience to watch. It’s been turned into a competitive sport without artistry. Worse, many of these hoofers, never having done anything else, aren’t able to teach tap correctly. They’ve become famous within an self-celebratory echo chamber of other such hoofers. They seem to see no need to fill in their learning, although that doesn’t stop a few from trying to do “tributes” to Ann Miller or Powell which aren’t even close....Most of their students are in flat shoes and sitting way back on their heels developing bad habits. They don’t care about arm positions, angles, or varying the quality of the taps. The taps in this “style” aim more at being ammunition- a point seen in this film when JSS takes his tap shoes out as if from a holster. Better to watch Daniels’ s other tap choreography like Walken & Peters in “Pennies from Heaven.” Being a versatile veteran he could choreograph anything including Tap Dance Kid which ironically put this “street style” on the map. I prefer the Bowery Boys and their waltz clog....Many of us will leave it to the hoot & holler’in crowd who know very little about dance to actually be enthusiastic about this new “ throw spaghetti on the wall” tap. Thankfully, the Copasetics, Sammy Davis, and Astaire, Kelly, O’Connor are on film.
Amen!
