Personally, I feel Geoffrey Rush was the most convincing pirate. Captain Barbossa is THE textbook oceanic bandit.
@Holden Mcgroine Robert Newton in Blackbeard, The Pirate. I love the scene where he is sleeping on a hammock in a hut and one of his men is trying to wake him and he says "Arrr, mind yer noise!". From 1952.

It's that Cornish, Deven Accent! Many of the Pirates came from there. =)

Much agreed, sure Jack sparrow is fun and good but Barbosa sorry gotta say it- was my favorite.

Geoffrey Rush said that he always wanted to play a pirate on film but never got to do it until Pirates of the Caribbean, even though he had a long, great career. He looks like he's having so much fun as Barbossa! This is a man's dream coming true.
He is easily the most iconic traditional pirate in the series, to boot.

I like how Barbossa was actually good inside, the only reason he was evil in the first one was because he was desperate to get rid of the curse.

Lium I'm not saying he's a saint, hes a pirate dur but not as bad as some others.
He's a teeny tiny bit like Hodge Starkweather from The Mortal Instruments series in that sense. Sure they had different curses but both characters were only antagonists because of their determination to lift them.

I like to think that his development went from being a greedy Pirate (Pre-CotBP), to paying the price for his greed, and thus being desperate to undo his crime (CotBP), to ending up an anti-hero of sorts (Dead Man's Chest and onward)

Barbossa is just too goddam cool. Like, Jack has charisma and luck on his side, but Barbossa has grit and determination. The movies after World's End weren't very good but the arc they gave him was easily the best part.
If Barbossa hadn't lost his leg, he would have beaten Blackbeard easily without having to worry about his wooden leg

@@hectorbarbossa4403 That's a fair point, but he and Jack seemed pretty even in CotBP, though Barbossa always had the upper hand. In the same movie, Will seemed better than Jack, at least in straight swordplay, though he was vulnerable to tricks and underhanded play that pirates might use. Off that alone, I think Will is of similar skill in the first movie, though I suspect Barbossa would win. Now Will is immortal. He will likely be the better fighter before long.
Rush killed it in every movie. I love Depps performance but Rush was the actuall star of this.

I was very young when i watched the first movie on dvd , i watched every other movie in theater , the last 2 i mostly watched for Barbossa because he became my favorite character in At World's End

I'd be glad if I could be part of Barbossa's crew. For real this man has an overdose of charisma. So great. He deserves Blackbeard's ship and much more.
Hector Barbossa had a lot of great advantages: He captained the black pearl, made an awesome entrance at the end of dead man's chest, he was the justice of the peace for Will and Elizabeth's weeding, he got to fought and defeat Blackbeard, and finally he is now the captain of Queen Anne's revenge.
why do most people only like Jack? Barbossa is wicked, hilarious, a free spirit and he never loses his ship :D (well, in case he loses it, he'll get it back anyway)
