Colbor CL220 BEST Videography Light 2023

- The Colbor CL220 is the best light in its price bracket. There is no doubt about that. They come in the cheapest and have the most amount of power output and features. Durability is one thing that is hard to test as this would take months to test in the field with dozens of shoots needed.
It is safe to say bigger brands such as Nanlite, Aputure and Godox are being chased by Colbor and Smallrig. It is no longer an easy battle as smaller light brands seem to bring cheaper but very similar quality.
I was as unbiased and accurate as I could be with my review and I am very impressed by these lights and would be willing to use these on all my professional shoots.

Nice one Jason. Thanks for including the side by side comparisons, super helpful and impressive to see the CL220 keep up with 300W lights. It would be super dope if Colbor released a range of modifiers that accommodated the dual and quad light configurations. Imagine having four CL220's banked together in a single 5' Octa.. badass!

Such a good review for these low budget lights. Perfect for someone like me who wants affordable quality.
I have the Colbor 60W bicolor and really impressed by the quality and light output. I wouldn't mind having another one of them alongside the 220w.

hey Jason, just bought a cl220, I tested at 100% with smart fan and even at 2 meters away the mic pic up the noise. Do u think my unit is faulty?
Have you noticed that the rail system is nato rail? It is on their CL60 versions at least. This means many mounting options 😉

after seeing your comparison, i would consider this one to got it on my arsenal
The older ones weren’t great but these newer version are getting really good for the price
I recently purchased the SmallRig 450D for $800 (!) - it is a new type of COB chip that is very efficient- giving the same lumen output as the Aputure 600! For me this was the best 'bang for the buck' and has become my primary light source for shooting (both video and stills). I prefer the higher light output of the pure 5600K LED's to the lower (but more flexible ) output of the bi-color units. Gels are cheap - extra lumens are not... As a 2nd/3rd light I think a full spectrum LED would be handy- you don't need the power of a key light for background/rim/hair lights so the flexibility makes more sense to me.
These budget companies are really pushing the limits and I am excited for them

I´m just a bit concerned about the longevity of the colbor as it is a new company and there's not a lot of information about it on the internet. Yes the build quality is good but what about the inside? Do you think it will last long? thank you
That's pretty shocking! Actually I have both this and the CL330 in my cart to be purchased on a later date, but now I'm wondering about the performance of the CL330!

These look cool. Re price/value, the original Amaran 200x (not the newer 200x S) can be had for around 3 hundo USD. Stocks will be drying up soon I guess. Noisy fan for some people's taste, but a great light otherwise.

Here are two negatives of the Colbor light:
1. The amaran 200X has much better SSI values (welcome to the future).
2. Colbor is not a very well known/established brand (comes with risks).
Future Con: I expect all upcoming variable LED lights to come with Green/Magenta shift just like the Forza 300 BII
