- T.I.C Troops in action The feature-length documentary film "Armadillo", by Janus Metz and cinematography by Lars Skree is selected for Semaine de la Critique, the distinguished side programme, which seldom includes documentary among its repertoire.
ARMADILLO is an upfront account of growing cynicism and adrenaline addiction for young soldiers at war.
Mads and Daniel are on their first mission in Helmand, Afghanistan.
Their platoon is stationed in Camp Armadillo, right on the Helmand frontline, fighting tough battles against the Taliban.
The soldiers are there to help the Afghan people, but as fighting gets tougher and operations increasingly hairy, Mads, Daniel and their friends become cynical, widening the gap between themselves and the Afghan civilisation.
Mistrust and paranoia set in causing alienation and disillusion.
Armadillo is a journey into the soldier's mind and a unique film on the mythological story of man and war, staged in its contemporary version in Afghanistan.
Having been awarded for Semaine de la Critique, Janus Metz is now also a contender for the prestigious Camera d'Or, Cannes Film Festival's award for best debuting feature film.

That's aggressive patrolling, counter-ambush and re-engagement ....that's the way to do it. Outstanding documentary and some serious soldering.
I missed the "soldering" part, did they have to solder some wires on a broken radio or something? But this was some serious soldiering! lol. Just busting your balls my friend.
Thank you, from Texas. You didn't have to go with us but you did.
You might get a chance to reciprocate the effort, things are getting a bit dicey in Europe.
@@ReginnKunnr
A Texan who see the benefit of being friends with Europe?
What about the Orange Leader who think you should cut ties with everybody (Other than maybe Russia)?
It's beyond me how some Americans don't see the benefit for both in this friendship. Yeah, Europe having the US backing us scares off a few less than friendly countries. But it has been the US who've actually needed the people of Europe to help when the US has been the one to charge into other countries. The US had A LOT of men in Afghanistan... But NATO as a whole almost doubled the firepower.
That was an intense clip. Denmark has some fine soldiers we can all be proud of. Professional and aggressive.

I have to leave a comment here! In Denmark nobody is forced to join the forces, all though every "young fit man" is called to the army/navy or airforce at his 18 birthday for a period of time, a "drafting" if you like? Women are free to take the oppertunity of doing the same in nearly all of the arms. the Armadillo thing shows most of all just "the ordinary soldier" and NOT the special forces please! Sorry, Alex! These are "just" the "average GI's" The "Special Forces" are something completely different! As: PADDY MAINE :-)
Tim, are you in the Danish National Guard?
Danish " average GI's " are more akin to units like the 75th Ranger Regiment.
The Norwegian Counterpart would be something like the Telemark Batallion.

As a Dane, here, hmmm I always prefer first hand argumentation. The other SHIT, is losing by the number. It IS losing.
I see a lot of people rate these guys above American troops. But to be honest, that isn't a fair comparison. The guy's in this flick are Grand Hussars which is more equivalent to US Marines or US Army Rangers. The warriors in armadillo are above the common GI in the Danish Army. I suspect that ultimately they rate about the same as rangers in training, if lacking the same level of combat experience.
From what i understand, they were "Grand Hussars". A supposedly elite unit. Though i'm not really sure if they are elite in name or in ability now that you asked. Admittedly, i relied on internet sources. Are the Grand Hussars elite?
Makes sense I guess. It's like how the 101st Airborne is "Elite" but not really in practice. None the less, you guys have damn good troops. I would have to assume that your regulars would have to be top notch with so few numbers. More bang for the taxpayer's buck? Anyways, one thing you can always rely on for small western countries is to have a fairly efficient military for what the people put into it. Living on base right now and I can tell you that they're wasteful. So, do you know if the Danish Army have the same perks as the US military?
+Alex Hendrix In Denmark all citizens get the "perks" of US Military personel (education, health care etc.)
Healthcare is a stretch on certain things. Even for military personnel in the US. Typical of the United States. Course, your politicians are probably held accountable for bullshit unlike here.
+Alex Hendrix I was in the 4th company - 3rd platoon (armoured infantry) - stationed at the Gardehusar regiment in Neastved army baraks in Denmark, in 1999.. They are not an "Elite" infantry, but just normal combat infantry. The real Husars are a horse mounted regiment, not combat infantry.

(I know it's a old comment) The Danes and German had simulere uniforms before Denmark got the MTS (multi terrain camo) uniform the difference was that the Germans also had brown mixed into the pattern, the Danes had green, light green and black. m/84 was the name of the Danish uniform. (though I don't know the difference between their desert camo but atleast thats the differences between their woodland camo)
Denmark adopted the spot camo way before Germany, although our M01 (desert camo) looks alot like the german Tropentarn, it's quite different.
The Danish camo has a warmer tan and has a deeper green with reddish brown spots. And the there are more brown spots in the pattern than the German counterpart.

Yes, the price of being civilized. We could just carpet bomb the entire country. But we are not savages like Taliban. We actually care about civilian loses.
Love watching these documentaries and laughing how you lost and it was all for nothing 😂😝
You “love” it??
A chicken shit US administration pulled out too soon, before the Afghan Army was ready.
Untill then, for 20 years, women could vote and go to school. Afghans could vote. Read what they felt like, dance or listen to music. All that is gone.
Was mistakes made? Surely. But there you sit, like a turd, and “love” the new situation the Afghans are in.
You are an exemplar of the anti-war movement: better to feel good about yourself and espouse the “right” anti-US opinions, than actually think about consequences and the lives of the people you pretend to “care” about.
A soldier who spent 10 minuttes in Afghanistan fighting this retarding, backwards version of Islam, that wants to return the Afghans to the Middle Ages, has done more to better this world than a cheeto dust covered keyboard warrior like you ever will.

0:27 So stupid crossing in open field
sometimes the enemy is hiding amongst civilians and you have to be the bait.. when they open fire you got co-ordintaes to return fire
They cross the open fields for a number of reasons. First of all, the soldiers have to take different routes every time they are on patrol because of the threat of IEDs. Following the roads in that area is suicide because they are 100% filled with IEDs. And secondly, as MissBehaven1974 pointed out, they are trying to lure the Taliban into open combat, because the soldiers can not fight what they can't see.
yep.. seems stupid when you don't know the combat theater... But we did it because.. reasons.. If you've fought there, you would know the standards...
