I think she'll never get to a point where she's willing to seek a second chance. Why? Because she'll never get to a point where she'll admit she did anything to warrant being locked up in the first place.
This reminds so much of Marine Corps boot camp. You keep your head down, you don't bitch, or complain, help out, don't make waves and get through it. There's a whole culture to it. Disclaimer, I haven't been in prison. Thank you for your advice.
I wonder if she'll finally figure out that her faux baritone voice is of no use to her. I would love to be able to say that I have no axes to grind here, but in all honesty, it really torques me that she chose to bring two children into the world, knowing that she was facing the possibilities of criminal convictions and a prison sentence. As a father, I detest that kind of selfishness.

The big problem is Elizabeth Holmes is a psychopathic personality. All of the recommendations you mentioned depends on being able to feel remorse or understand what the consequences of what your actions will be. It means having a conscious, something a psychopath doesn't have. When someone is psychopathic, it's unlikely she'll take or act on any of these tips and even if she does, they'll be means of manipulation for her, as this is what psychopaths do. They're all about manipulating others, using others. She probably will never accept responsibility for her crimes.
So here is a question Justin: Elizabeth is famous and everyone inside that prison is already going to know that she comes from a wealthy privileged background. I imagine this can cut two ways a. she is despised by many for being the “rich” girl who probably will have many lawyers and others coming and going regularly, may give the impression of being highly privileged on the inside. b. Some will want to make best friends with her in hopes of getting a piece of her fame and fortune. Both of these scenarios will probably emerge in tandem creating a kind if cultural schism… So what are the longer term ramifications of those 2 scenarios intersecting?
Great commentary and perspective, inspiring the steps you took and your willingness to share so openly. Love your idea of having merit-based release for less time IF the victims are made whole consistently and fully. A woman moved here, small town USA, she openly told us her spouse embezzled over $3mm from his company as a top executive, fake invoicing, etc. and in federal prison. She (his mouthpiece) wrote an article stating restitution should be waved so she, the perpetrator could start over. Wow, imo THAT is why ppl have such poor opinions of the system.
There is so many things you can apply to your life from this video that have nothing to do with prison. I think people in general can change and be more caring and compassionate by going through less then good experiences.
You're such a good person. The only reason I found your channel was because I, like so many, found myself obsessed with the whole Elizabeth Holmes saga from the time she was indicted ... probably even from earlier than that, when I saw her picture on the cover of Forbes. So, if it weren't for that, I would have had no reason whatsoever to watch videos about prisons, prisoners, prison reform, et cetera. But I've found myself watching a few of your different videos, even ones unrelated to Elizabeth, and it is clear to me that you have turned a bad mistake into a powerful and meaningful mission to help others who have fallen from grace. I agree with what you say here. I believe she has made mistakes, and bad ones ... including choosing to get pregnant after she'd been indicted and then get pregnant a second time after being convicted. This is unfair to those children, and that is a choice she made, a terrible risk she took. BUT I pray that she will learn from this and come back from it a better, stronger person. I pray her children and her partner will be okay. I have prayed for (and continue praying for) her family through these difficult times. I pray for Sunny Balwani, too. Yes, I think he was a bit high on himself after his success in another industry, and he came to think he was above others, above the law. I pray he will learn from this and come out of it a healthier, more humble person like you have. You are such a good person. That is clear in all these videos. Maybe, some day, with the right decisions going forward, people will say the same about Sunny and Elizabeth. Everyone deserves redemption if they change themselves for the better.

I don’t believe a manipulator with the ego and arrogance of Elizabeth Holmes will do well being managed and being instructed how to do things in prison! After all the research I’ve done about Theranos I have little pity for EH. Maybe if EH can eat 50 hard boiled eggs in one hour she’ll earn the respect of her fellow inmates. I’m not. If that dude got 30 years? Trust me, did did something egregiously wrong, and deserves consequences for hurting individuals and society. I worked at a county jail when I got out of college. It’s HARD TO GET IN JAIL OR PRISON! The Government doesn’t want WORK! They don’t want business. Believe me. Almost all of the offenders were 3rd and 4th, or more offenders. Of course, all us humans make bad, dumb, and selfish decisions - but by the time a person has been caught, tried by some lazy or disinterested judge, and finally sentenced…. They are waaay past the “mistake” phase. They are habitual offenders, who seem to believe they won’t get consequences.
Yes, but do not expect her to. Just like Balwani, she will file an appeal at the last minute to overturn the judge's decision to deny her request to remain free as her conviction appeal is being resolved. She still believe that will save her from prison. So she will be granted another month of freedom. I am certain her lawyers, when this appeal is denied, will straight face asked for a surrender date far in the future.

I was disappointed that Elizabeth never expressed remorse for putting people at risk. And she will return to a life of wealth. But I also have empathy for people who are separated from their loved ones for that long.
I wish i would've known about this channel before i surrendered myself to federal prison back in 2012. I had a really hard time adjusting. I was a totally square medical professional who made a mistake, became addicted to narcotics and got caught with my hand in the candy jar. I had no idea that would get the DEA involved. What a wake up call. Ms White privledge got humbled very quickly. Suddenly i was a federal prisoner. But, it was the best thing that could've happened to me. Completely changed my life. Sobered me up. But it was not an enjoyable experience. I had no idea how to act. But i complained about everything at first, and the other women did not like me. I realize i was too negative, and nobody needed any more negatively. I saw so many injustices. I fucked up and deserved to be there, but so many women had such long sentences for small drug crimes. The feds don't give one fuck about handing out time. Doesn't matter if you have kids, if you have nobody to take care of them for you. They have no sympathy. It was very sad to see so many women lose their children. And my petty whining didn't help. So it taught it a lot
If I was your kid I'd look up to you, and I'd view you as a man of integrity. Sure you made mistakes. We all do. But you turned those mistakes around and became an inspiration to people. That's 100% worthy of respect.

I agree with you 100% I heard someone the other day say, “ when it comes to putting people in prison we really need to differentiate the people that we are scared of from the people we are angry with” - I thought that was so profound - as a society I don’t want my tax dollars to go towards imprisoning white collar criminals for lengthy periods of time - Now for my question to you - do you ever look back on all of this and think the fact that it you went to prison was a blessing? It made you the person you are through adversity and put you in a position to help other people in a way you never would have imagined - it made you a better person with a better appreciation for life in general
The difference between Elizabeth, Holmes, and other criminals is that she still feels she’s done no wrong. She has no remorse. No sympathy for what she has done therefore, until I see that come from her, she should not have any extended to her.
Another thing i learned going to federal court: all the judge and prosecutors want to hear is that you #1: take responsibility for your crimes. #2: contrition. You had at least better act like you are sorry and acknowledge the victims to your crime. That was the only thing that saved my ass from getting a long sentence...i took responsibility from the moment i was first interviewed by the DEA and apologized to the doctor who's prescription pad i stole. That knocked off at least a year of my time

And Balwani is in worse circumstances, he is sentenced to 13 years and is appealing to the BOP because they want to send him to a jail in Georgia, Atlanta and while he is in the Federal Correctional Institution, Terminal Island.
Atlanta is, to be blunt, a hellhole. 120 years old and scandal/rat-ridden. Congressional investigation not too long ago. It's probably because they have space there. Judge Davila had recommended Lompoc in CA for Sunny.

Thanks so much for watching! Okay let me answer: I have no idea how’s she’s preparing. Yes, she can buy ear plugs in the commissary. To eye shades, I’d have to look on the commissary list. But I know many prisoners make them-staff doesn’t care. Sleeping is an adjustment, that much I know!!
I was in a federal detention camp for 5 weeks and it's so easy to get in trouble for many seemingly small things. I knew this guy who was in a wheelchair and he smuggled a pack of cigarettes which his mom brought to him on a weekend visit. He was sen't to the hole for two weeks and his case got upgraded.

Wow - savage opening, Sir! I'm not surprised that Holmes thought she knew better than you. This is the woman who thought that a photo album of her luxury stay-at-home life would get her more sympathy than taking responsibility for her behaviour and just maybe showing contrition.
I know Holmes bears tons of responsibility, but we must recall, she hired a legal team to guide her. When I was a defendant, I was lost. I paid for guidance. I fault her lawyers for letting her turn in those disastrous character reference letters. Sometimes the best letter is no letter. Maybe the lawyers didn't read the letters. That happens a lot. Regardless, they did not help or serve her by letting those letters go to the Judge.

I like what the apostle Paul said in Phillipians "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength." He spent a lot of time in prison too. It's a great goal to aim for because it helps us get over ourselves in our journey toward spiritual progress.
You speak so fast that we don’t have enough time to absorb what you say. By the time we figure out something you said you are already two sentences ahead. You need to slow down, take a breath & give us time to understand what you are saying.

I think Elizabeth was the mastermind. The jury was hung on some of her charges. If not, she may have gotten more time than Sonny. Yes, she absolutely belongs there!!! She did a terrible thing!
Justin, if ONLY Elizabeth had contacted you for advice before going to prison, her time would be a lot less daunting - she would avoid the pitfalls that await!. She has no privilege in prison and will soon find out the hard way - this is real! I would not like to bet in her shoes now,!
As an Australian, I am gobsmacked about severity of sentencing in the USA for even relatively minor offences e.g. driving under the influence. Prison is never a deterrent and never restitutive. If EH were in Australia, she might have gotten 5 years or so. But since so many prisons are privately run, I guess it is up to justice system to keep them full to ensure jobs for the boys and lots of profits for the corporations that run these prisons. That said, I have no sympathy for EH. She was and remains a narcissist with no empathy for others. She hurt many people as a result of her deception and deserves incarceration for a few years for sure and she should never be permitted to be a director of company again.
I believe both sentences are too long for what they did. Holmes was not convicted on patient harm. Balwani may have been convicted on one count. The tech was fortunately not in the marketplace long enough to create significant patient harm. And if they had...they should have received at least 15 years. And when it comes to restitution--the losses have long since been written off. The small investors deserve a payback but many of them went after Theranos before it went out of business and won some payback.
Throughout the Theranos saga as it began with John Carryrou's reporting, I fully indulged in the schadenfreude of Elizabeth Holmes getting her comeuppance. I felt the frustration as she delayed her sentence, desperately trying to squirm out of the trap, and no small degree of outrage when she chose to bring two children into this world largely as pawns for her own preservation (naming one "Invicta" -- unconquered). I felt gleeful when she finally reported to prison. It restored my faith in our penal system, where too often, privileged young white women are treated too favorably. But then, I thought about 11 years. That's a long time. That's her entire 40's, the prime of a career, the prime of parenthood. She won't ever get to experience that pivotal era of modern human life. The photos of her reporting to prison, red-faced (she appears to be crying or having done so recently), no makeup, simply dressed and slightly hunched over in what I imagine is nervousness and fear. 11 years in prison. Her crime, really, for stealing money from rich people. While I don't feel sorry for her (she seems obstinately and incorrigibly unaccountable for herself) I don't feel glee anymore. I am now beginning to feel that 11 years is overly harsh.
So just listened to this and I was wondering when you were going to mention the false hope of winning their appeals given by their attorneys. I followed the Chrisley s case and another high profile case and despite the odds being against them for winning an appeal. Something like 95% don’t win their appeals they still hold onto that. I guess when I think about it, it’s got to be a mental saving face maneuver. At last ditch effort to protect yourself from total devastation. The lawyers just want to click hours. Im a little embarrassed for Elizabeth Holmes because the things she is asking the judge for because she is a mother and such. You are trying to put out the message … when you get to prison … everyone is on the same level. There is no special deals based on family status, skin color, wealth. I don’t care really what happens to her or Jen Shah. The Chrisley’s , I feel got too much of a sentence.

They hopefully are harmless fibromas but the one under the eye is reddish and not typical. He needs to be healthy to continue his work. Not a doctor but work in healthcare.
Elizabeth Holmes is the kind of person who is counting on others who will feel empathy toward her just so she will not pay for the price of her own actions. It would be interesting if she dropped the wide eye stare and deep voice once she is in prison. And if she writes a blog, which is doubtful as we have yet heard anything from her that is genuine and given how she is a proven pathological liar, it would be either be all lies or endless rantings on how she is unjustly incarcerated. I can safely said we will not hear a peep from her in prison other than the occasional endless appeal that her lawyers will file for her. I am certain she will bring it all the way to the Supreme Court if she needed to.
Justin, there is a monetary restitution for both Holmes and Balwani to be agreed on (still before Judge Davila) and it's an impossible number in the hundreds of millions. How is that assessed while still in prison? Also for Holmes, while in prison wiĺl she come to some kind of personal reckoning with the suicide of the man who was co-author on a number of her patents, lab director, and chief scientist, Ian Gibbons? Will she take responsibility for some of the actions that led to his death?
To $, the restitution can be resolved while she’s in prison. In some instances, clarity didn’t happen until after the prison term ended. It’s too bad they couldn’t resolve it by sentencing-they had enough time. If there’s no $ owed (yet), she won’t have to pay FRP (financial responsibility program). To reckoning, I’m alone on this one: in time, I think, it will happen. Could be many years.
@WhiteCollarAdviceOfficial Thank you for this clarification. Neither she nor Sunny will be able to pay $ restitution in their lifetimes unless they win the lottery after they are out. FYI, Theranos vendor debtors have sued her individually for about $25 million as she signed a bunch of personal notes while still CEO. She was served before one of the last court sessions. And as to Gibbons...I fall on the opposite side of you. She will never come to the moral realization that she was a factor in his taking his own life (others were a lawsuit and his own battle with colon cancer). She expressed no sympathy at the time and I would be amazed if she came to Jesus in Bryan. And even then, I'd be wondering if it would be for real.

Well, Elizabeth has been abiding in the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas for the past three months. There may not be any fences at the camp, but I dare say she's spent the hottest three months of her life, and the thought of trying to leave hasn't crossed her mind!

I was a petty juvenile delinquent, but im lucky I got real in the nick of time before it got too much more serious. My worst charge was stealing a car (which I didn’t steal the guy I was running around with doing refunds with stole it, and I was driving it! I’m the dumbest criminal you can ever meet. Her family and Billy the fiancé. Don't know if it was $30M, but I do know that earlier Theranos and Holmes stiffed Boies Schiller (David Boies was on her board) and Cooley on legal fees.
What about someone who goes out on a writ and comes back with a different name? It happened when I was in boron federal prison camp which is now deactivated. What a country club that was best. 13 months I’ve spent of my life made me a different person.
@@WhiteCollarAdviceOfficial She did. It won’t buy her much time though. If I were her, I’d use that bought time productively to prepare for the road ahead. But knowing her, she probably thinks she’ll win the appeal to the 9th circuit and doesn’t have to worry about going to prison. So she’ll lean into “I’ll prevail on appeal” for a month just like Balwani and her skull will be smashed into a wall when her appeal gets denied and she has no more delay tactics left. By that point it’ll be too late to prepare.
What is the over/under on Elizabeth Holmes surviving her 11 years without another prisoner deciding to 1) mess up her face or 2) turning her into room temperature?
She is unable to follow a single one of your advice for her stay in prison, simply because she is a narcissist with greatness síndrome who feels above the world and is not able to see beyond her nose. She lives in the mirror effect, she only sees herself, she is incapable of having empathy
I’m one of the biggest Elizabeth haters out there, but when it comes to prison I believe everyone should get a fair sentence. 11.25 years was more than I expected, the one big point I give to Elizabeth is that she put all the investor money into the company, she didn’t spend it herself, and she did try to make the company succeed. But there’s a lot going against her too, it wasn’t 1 or 2 bad decisions she made, she was actively lying and scamming people every day for a decade. And she put many lives at risk to keep the scam going. And I do think the large dollar amount matters for deterrence. If an entrepreneur has a chance to steal hundreds of millions, they might take the chance if they think they’ll only get a 5 year sentence if they get caught. But for 10+ years I think they’d be much less likely to risk it. Also I think she really annoyed the judge for many reasons
Agree with you there. It wasn't one or two mistakes, it was 10 years of them. She turned the water into acid for a lot of women founders out there for several years, both during her scam as well as after. How Judge Davila put up with her aggressive defense--he relied on his professionalism and fairness. I'm sure he's seen them before but this one broke some unique ground. The final point is that one of her key employees and co-author of many patents with her, Ian Gibbons, not only committed suicide because of what was going on there and he wasn't being listened to, but also because he was going to defend himself in an early legal action all alone. Holmes did not show a dram of sympathy to him nor his widow.

She's STILL out on a last minute appeal. Do you think this appeal will be upheld or is she just delaying the inevitable, pushing the time she gets out even further into the future than it could have been?

Even 6-12 months difference is a big deal to children in their formative years. Being there for your kids when they are 11 years old seems more important than being there when they are 6 months old and won't even remember that time of their life.
Seems that her new date to report to prison is May 30. How is she not on a strict watch since she already attempted to flee to Mexico on a one-way ticket out of the US?
Figure she’d wind up at Alliceville, AL female Fed. prison. There’s not a gas station for 15 miles any direction from there BTW if that gives you an idea how far in the sticks that place is.

I am new these channels. I always wanted be criminal detective lawyer I think every parent should take there teenager though a Kitty prison adult. Uses as learning tool .
Federal prison is a piece of cake, she's lucky she didn't go to general prison. I don't say this from experience, I've never been in trouble but I've heard from someone who was actually there. It will be like a hotel, not a fancy one but she will survive.

I would love to be able to say that I have no axes to grind here, but in all honesty, it really torques me that she chose to bring two children into the world, knowing that she was facing the possibilities of criminal convictions and a prison sentence. The big problem is Elizabeth Holmes is a psychopathic personality. All of the recommendations you mentioned depends on being able to feel remorse or understand what the consequences of what your actions will be. It means having a conscious, something a psychopath doesn't have.
When someone is psychopathic, it's unlikely she'll take or act on any of these tips and even if she does, they'll be means of manipulation for her, as this is what psychopaths do. They're all about manipulating others, using others. She probably will never accept responsibility for her crimes.

So here is a question Justin: Elizabeth is famous and everyone inside that prison is already going to know that she comes from a wealthy privileged background. I imagine this can cut two ways
a. she is despised by many for being the “rich” girl who probably will have many lawyers and others coming and going regularly, may give the impression of being highly privileged on the inside.
b. Some will want to make best friends with her in hopes of getting a piece of her fame and fortune.
Both of these scenarios will probably emerge in tandem creating a kind if cultural schism…
So what are the longer term ramifications of those 2 scenarios intersecting?

Love your idea of having merit-based release for less time IF the victims are made whole consistently and fully. A woman moved here, small town USA, she openly told us her spouse embezzled over $3mm from his company as a top executive, fake invoicing, etc. and in federal prison. She (his mouthpiece) wrote an article stating restitution should be waved so she, the perpetrator could start over. Wow, imo THAT is why ppl have such poor opinions of the system.

You're such a good person. The only reason I found your channel was because I, like so many, found myself obsessed with the whole Elizabeth Holmes saga from the time she was indicted ... probably even from earlier than that, when I saw her picture on the cover of Forbes. So, if it weren't for that, I would have had no reason whatsoever to watch videos about prisons, prisoners, prison reform, et cetera. But I've found myself watching a few of your different videos, even ones unrelated to Elizabeth, and it is clear to me that you have turned a bad mistake into a powerful and meaningful mission to help others who have fallen from grace. I agree with what you say here. I believe she has made mistakes, and bad ones ... including choosing to get pregnant after she'd been indicted and then get pregnant a second time after being convicted. This is unfair to those children, and that is a choice she made, a terrible risk she took. BUT I pray that she will learn from this and come back from it a better, stronger person. I pray her children and her partner will be okay. I have prayed for (and continue praying for) her family through these difficult times. I pray for Sunny Balwani, too. Yes, I think he was a bit high on himself after his success in another industry, and he came to think he was above others, above the law. I pray he will learn from this and come out of it a healthier, more humble person like you have. You are such a good person. That is clear in all these videos. Maybe, some day, with the right decisions going forward, people will say the same about Sunny and Elizabeth. Everyone deserves redemption if they change themselves for the better.

My brother has been in federal prison for 30 years, 22 years in USP and 8 years in FCI. These are many of the things he said.

I worked at a county jail when I got out of college. It’s HARD TO GET IN JAIL OR PRISON! The Government doesn’t want WORK! They don’t want business. Believe me. Almost all of the offenders were 3rd and 4th, or more offenders.
Of course, all us humans make bad, dumb, and selfish decisions - but by the time a person has been caught, tried by some lazy or disinterested judge, and finally sentenced…. They are waaay past the “mistake” phase. They are habitual offenders, who seem to believe they won’t get consequences.

Yes, but do not expect her to. Just like Balwani, she will file an appeal at the last minute to overturn the judge's decision to deny her request to remain free as her conviction appeal is being resolved. She still believe that will save her from prison. So she will be granted another month of freedom. I am certain her lawyers, when this appeal is denied, will straight face asked for a surrender date far in the future.
@@PungiFungi It makes me so mad. If she didn't have money and the clout she has she would have already been in prison. She literally had two kids for sympathy and to try to stay out of prison. She is horrible.

If it is up to the judge, my opinion is she will not get an extension because of appeal, and have to report in on Thursday. And then another episode of the mini-series begins

I wish i would've known about this channel before i surrendered myself to federal prison back in 2012. I had a really hard time adjusting. I was a totally square medical professional who made a mistake, became addicted to narcotics and got caught with my hand in the candy jar. I had no idea that would get the DEA involved. What a wake up call. Ms White privledge got humbled very quickly. Suddenly i was a federal prisoner. But, it was the best thing that could've happened to me. Completely changed my life. Sobered me up. But it was not an enjoyable experience. I had no idea how to act. But i complained about everything at first, and the other women did not like me. I realize i was too negative, and nobody needed any more negatively. I saw so many injustices. I fucked up and deserved to be there, but so many women had such long sentences for small drug crimes. The feds don't give one fuck about handing out time. Doesn't matter if you have kids, if you have nobody to take care of them for you. They have no sympathy. It was very sad to see so many women lose their children. And my petty whining didn't help. So it taught it a lot

I agree with you 100% I heard someone the other day say, “ when it comes to putting people in prison we really need to differentiate the people that we are scared of from the people we are angry with” - I thought that was so profound - as a society I don’t want my tax dollars to go towards imprisoning white collar criminals for lengthy periods of time -
Now for my question to you - do you ever look back on all of this and think the fact that it you went to prison was a blessing? It made you the person you are through adversity and put you in a position to help other people in a way you never would have imagined - it made you a better person with a better appreciation for life in general

The difference between Elizabeth, Holmes, and other criminals is that she still feels she’s done no wrong. She has no remorse. No sympathy for what she has done therefore, until I see that come from her, she should not have any extended to her.
Another thing i learned going to federal court: all the judge and prosecutors want to hear is that you #1: take responsibility for your crimes. #2: contrition. You had at least better act like you are sorry and acknowledge the victims to your crime. That was the only thing that saved my ass from getting a long sentence...i took responsibility from the moment i was first interviewed by the DEA and apologized to the doctor who's prescription pad i stole. That knocked off at least a year of my time

And Balwani is in worse circumstances, he is sentenced to 13 years and is appealing to the BOP because they want to send him to a jail in Georgia, Atlanta and while he is in the Federal Correctional Institution, Terminal Island.
Atlanta is, to be blunt, a hellhole. 120 years old and scandal/rat-ridden. Congressional investigation not too long ago. It's probably because they have space there. Judge Davila had recommended Lompoc in CA for Sunny.

I was in a federal detention camp for 5 weeks and it's so easy to get in trouble for many seemingly small things. I knew this guy who was in a wheelchair and he smuggled a pack of cigarettes which his mom brought to him on a weekend visit. He was sen't to the hole for two weeks and his case got upgraded.

Wow - savage opening, Sir! I'm not surprised that Holmes thought she knew better than you. This is the woman who thought that a photo album of her luxury stay-at-home life would get her more sympathy than taking responsibility for her behaviour and just maybe showing contrition.
I know Holmes bears tons of responsibility, but we must recall, she hired a legal team to guide her. When I was a defendant, I was lost. I paid for guidance. I fault her lawyers for letting her turn in those disastrous character reference letters. Sometimes the best letter is no letter. Maybe the lawyers didn't read the letters. That happens a lot. Regardless, they did not help or serve her by letting those letters go to the Judge.

I hate she is going to prison for so many years. But I hate it more that she deliberately had children. Knowing that she was going to prison.

I like what the apostle Paul said in Phillipians "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength." He spent a lot of time in prison too. It's a great goal to aim for because it helps us get over ourselves in our journey toward spiritual progress.

I think Elizabeth was the mastermind. The jury was hung on some of her charges. If not, she may have gotten more time than Sonny. Yes, she absolutely belongs there!!! She did a terrible thing!

If she had pleaded guilty she may be either out already or be out in a couple of years.
As an Australian, I am gobsmacked about severity of sentencing in the USA for even relatively minor offences e.g. driving under the influence. Prison is never a deterrent and never restitutive. If EH were in Australia, she might have gotten 5 years or so. But since so many prisons are privately run, I guess it is up to justice system to keep them full to ensure jobs for the boys and lots of profits for the corporations that run these prisons. That said, I have no sympathy for EH. She was and remains a narcissist with no empathy for others. She hurt many people as a result of her deception and deserves incarceration for a few years for sure and she should never be permitted to be a director of company again.
We warehouse a lot of non violent people in this country for sentences that are far too long.
I believe both sentences are too long for what they did. Holmes was not convicted on patient harm. Balwani may have been convicted on one count. The tech was fortunately not in the marketplace long enough to create significant patient harm. And if they had...they should have received at least 15 years.
And when it comes to restitution--the losses have long since been written off. The small investors deserve a payback but many of them went after Theranos before it went out of business and won some payback.
Throughout the Theranos saga as it began with John Carryrou's reporting, I fully indulged in the schadenfreude of Elizabeth Holmes getting her comeuppance. I felt the frustration as she delayed her sentence, desperately trying to squirm out of the trap, and no small degree of outrage when she chose to bring two children into this world largely as pawns for her own preservation (naming one "Invicta" -- unconquered). I felt gleeful when she finally reported to prison. It restored my faith in our penal system, where too often, privileged young white women are treated too favorably.
But then, I thought about 11 years. That's a long time. That's her entire 40's, the prime of a career, the prime of parenthood. She won't ever get to experience that pivotal era of modern human life. The photos of her reporting to prison, red-faced (she appears to be crying or having done so recently), no makeup, simply dressed and slightly hunched over in what I imagine is nervousness and fear. 11 years in prison. Her crime, really, for stealing money from rich people. While I don't feel sorry for her (she seems obstinately and incorrigibly unaccountable for herself) I don't feel glee anymore. I am now beginning to feel that 11 years is overly harsh.

So just listened to this and I was wondering when you were going to mention the false hope of winning their appeals given by their attorneys. I followed the Chrisley s case and another high profile case and despite the odds being against them for winning an appeal. Something like 95% don’t win their appeals they still hold onto that. I guess when I think about it, it’s got to be a mental saving face maneuver. At last ditch effort to protect yourself from total devastation. The lawyers just want to click hours. Im a little embarrassed for Elizabeth Holmes because the things she is asking the judge for because she is a mother and such. You are trying to put out the message … when you get to prison … everyone is on the same level. There is no special deals based on family status, skin color, wealth. I don’t care really what happens to her or Jen Shah. The Chrisley’s , I feel got too much of a sentence.

Elizabeth Holmes is the kind of person who is counting on others who will feel empathy toward her just so she will not pay for the price of her own actions. It would be interesting if she dropped the wide eye stare and deep voice once she is in prison. And if she writes a blog, which is doubtful as we have yet heard anything from her that is genuine and given how she is a proven pathological liar, it would be either be all lies or endless rantings on how she is unjustly incarcerated. I can safely said we will not hear a peep from her in prison other than the occasional endless appeal that her lawyers will file for her. I am certain she will bring it all the way to the Supreme Court if she needed to.
She’s paying the price. And it’s only about to accelerate.

Justin, there is a monetary restitution for both Holmes and Balwani to be agreed on (still before Judge Davila) and it's an impossible number in the hundreds of millions. How is that assessed while still in prison?
Also for Holmes, while in prison wiĺl she come to some kind of personal reckoning with the suicide of the man who was co-author on a number of her patents, lab director, and chief scientist, Ian Gibbons? Will she take responsibility for some of the actions that led to his death?
To $, the restitution can be resolved while she’s in prison. In some instances, clarity didn’t happen until after the prison term ended. It’s too bad they couldn’t resolve it by sentencing-they had enough time. If there’s no $ owed (yet), she won’t have to pay FRP (financial responsibility program). To reckoning, I’m alone on this one: in time, I think, it will happen. Could be many years.
@WhiteCollarAdviceOfficial Thank you for this clarification. Neither she nor Sunny will be able to pay $ restitution in their lifetimes unless they win the lottery after they are out. FYI, Theranos vendor debtors have sued her individually for about $25 million as she signed a bunch of personal notes while still CEO. She was served before one of the last court sessions.
And as to Gibbons...I fall on the opposite side of you. She will never come to the moral realization that she was a factor in his taking his own life (others were a lawsuit and his own battle with colon cancer). She expressed no sympathy at the time and I would be amazed if she came to Jesus in Bryan. And even then, I'd be wondering if it would be for real.

Well, Elizabeth has been abiding in the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas for the past three months. There may not be any fences at the camp, but I dare say she's spent the hottest three months of her life, and the thought of trying to leave hasn't crossed her mind!
She should have gotten more time. She did lots wrong. She deserves to be in n a bad place.

I was a petty juvenile delinquent, but im lucky I got real in the nick of time before it got too much more serious. My worst charge was stealing a car (which I didn’t steal the guy I was running around with doing refunds with stole it, and I was driving it! I’m the dumbest criminal you can ever meet. What about someone who goes out on a writ and comes back with a different name? It happened when I was in boron federal prison camp which is now deactivated. What a country club that was best. 13 months I’ve spent of my life made me a different person.
I think she’ll delay it by another month by pulling the same move as Balwani. I’d put her prison start in early June if I had to guess.

But knowing her, she probably thinks she’ll win the appeal to the 9th circuit and doesn’t have to worry about going to prison. So she’ll lean into “I’ll prevail on appeal” for a month just like Balwani and her skull will be smashed into a wall when her appeal gets denied and she has no more delay tactics left. By that point it’ll be too late to prepare.
I’m so confused. Can you explain why she shouldn’t be an informant? If she wants to get out sooner, wouldn’t serving as an informant achieve the goal?
What is the over/under on Elizabeth Holmes surviving her 11 years without another prisoner deciding to 1) mess up her face or 2) turning her into room temperature?

I’m one of the biggest Elizabeth haters out there, but when it comes to prison I believe everyone should get a fair sentence. 11.25 years was more than I expected, the one big point I give to Elizabeth is that she put all the investor money into the company, she didn’t spend it herself, and she did try to make the company succeed. But there’s a lot going against her too, it wasn’t 1 or 2 bad decisions she made, she was actively lying and scamming people every day for a decade. And she put many lives at risk to keep the scam going. And I do think the large dollar amount matters for deterrence. If an entrepreneur has a chance to steal hundreds of millions, they might take the chance if they think they’ll only get a 5 year sentence if they get caught. But for 10+ years I think they’d be much less likely to risk it. Also I think she really annoyed the judge for many reasons
Agree with you there. It wasn't one or two mistakes, it was 10 years of them. She turned the water into acid for a lot of women founders out there for several years, both during her scam as well as after. How Judge Davila put up with her aggressive defense--he relied on his professionalism and fairness. I'm sure he's seen them before but this one broke some unique ground. The final point is that one of her key employees and co-author of many patents with her, Ian Gibbons, not only committed suicide because of what was going on there and he wasn't being listened to, but also because he was going to defend himself in an early legal action all alone. Holmes did not show a dram of sympathy to him nor his widow.
It is time for the court to rule on her appeal! Elizabeth Holmes has been given grace and it is time she surrendered!

Great advice- only wish I saw this about 20 years ago, but I digress.🤣 Too bad she thinks she's innocent- I'm sure you'll agree Justin that it makes time go by slower when your in denial than if you just admit it and try to move on.
She's STILL out on a last minute appeal. Do you think this appeal will be upheld or is she just delaying the inevitable, pushing the time she gets out even further into the future than it could have been?

@@WhiteCollarAdviceOfficial Why delaying it when she might as well just get it over with as soon as possible so she can actually be free to be with her kids when they are 11/12 years old? Even 6-12 months difference is a big deal to children in their formative years. Being there for your kids when they are 11 years old seems more important than being there when they are 6 months old and won't even remember that time of their life.
Seems that her new date to report to prison is May 30. How is she not on a strict watch since she already attempted to flee to Mexico on a one-way ticket out of the US?

Figure she’d wind up at Alliceville, AL female Fed. prison. There’s not a gas station for 15 miles any direction from there BTW if that gives you an idea how far in the sticks that place is.

@@WhiteCollarAdviceOfficial very near to there is Alliceville, AL Nazi POW camp. Some of the prisoners have returned for the yearly camp re-enactments, based on the humane treatment they received there. Just a cool history tid bit.
I found this prison routine of good common sense and learn the ropes. Choices. Very interesting. Good job and now helping a part of our society that gets messed up . Poor decisions duo to environment.

She should not spend a single day in prison. She should be placed on house arrest like all highly intelligent people should.
People in prison are still humans in there. The prison is being away from your family and life.
Federal prison is a piece of cake, she's lucky she didn't go to general prison. I don't say this from experience, I've never been in trouble but I've heard from someone who was actually there. It will be like a hotel, not a fancy one but she will survive.
