Warsaw's metro system may not be the greatest but it's important to notice that the city also have it's own train lines, as well as regional trains that can all be accessed with one ticket with a relatievely low prices compared to europe standards.
Warsaw has 25 tram lines that cover most of the city and these are constantly being extended for example currently to Wilanow and Goclaw areas of the city.
Not to mention the ground is very dificult to make a tunnel under the river in Warsaw, so now with modern TBM's you can make a tunnel to the other bank of the river. Otherwise you'd be forced to make metro tunnels on boths sides that don't connect. That is why so many trams and trains.
Public transport 3/5. I live in Warsaw and I woul give it at least 4/5. Buses and trams are always on time, very clean and passenger friendly. I agree that more subway lines would be nice, but it takes time. All of Poland is now developing intensively.
I live between 2 cities in Germany and the buses I usually take are almost always 2-3 minutes late, sometimes even longer 😢
Nice video, thou there are lots of mistakes in it; You overlooked the train system, trams do not get stuck in traffic, there are bus lanes, and comparing to London there is good frequency of service.
I must note that while there are only two lines of metro, there are also three systems of suburban trains (WKD, SKM and KM) which while sometimes share tracks, originated as completely independent systems.
And we're getting number 3 in the next few years!
@@Tianke it should be long time ago.
Well. Koleje Mazowieckie (KM in short) is more of an regional rail system rather than an suburban/light rail like WKD (Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa) and SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska)
Trams are not stuck in traffic jams, this statement is an overinterpretation. They only stand as they are, failures, accidents or repairs, not traffic jams.
6:55 I often use this stop and I just don't go down until my app says the bus is close and always wear earphones, so it's bearable.
The movie is good. But talking about transport, you missed a very important issue of the railway and the city train. There is a railway with a very well-developed infrastructure. But overall a nice movie
Even though I noticed that some things in this video aren't exactly 100% exact I still enjoy it and and im happy for you visiting Warsaw and sharing Your experience. We Poles often do not see the good sides of the things we have and do well. We often approach ourselves very critically, and the perspective of someone from the outside can also allow us to see these good sides
I live in Warsaw and I always say Polish people love hating Poland.
what a nice healthy comment
Another amazing video!😃Loved learning about Poland🤯
I visited the city about a month after this video aired, and I gotta give props to the public transport for seemngly being on time and very clean all the time. It is also true that the city overall seems to be kept in a very clean condition (including the outer suburbs I've been to), and coming from a city as noisy as Barcelona, I really really appreciate how quiet it is in comparison.
The Poles are doing many things right
I am Polish, Polish, American, and I don’t know what to say. I’ve never been in Warsaw 🤐 I hope this is a year when i finally come to see Poland/Warsaw 🤞
@Al1en_boy_USA son return to the land of your forefathers...
As people said, something not mentioned here is that there's also local train lines running through the city and available with the same unified tickets; SKM, Koleje Mazowieckie and WKD (to a smaller extent)
Warsaw is doing great things! I wonder how useful that metro is when you compare it to how fast you can get around by bike. I’ve lived in Moscow for several years and literally it was faster to go everywhere by bike, except for maybe a few stations out on the total periphery. Seems like just building a sensible bike lane network will do much more than any metro for much cheaper. But that’s just my opinion.
Cycling here in general is better within a 3-4km radius from the centre - then you might need to take a metro or other transport. You can tho - get on the metro or the bus with your bicycle as well as on the suburban trains.
.......during high summer..... Warsaw is just the best. Love going to the beach in the evening.
I wouldn’t agree with Your opinion on the transit frequency, at least speaking about the Metro (given that image of it was shown while discussing this topic) it’s great during the weekdays, at peaks arriving to the stations every 2min, and a the rest of the day every 6min. It is worse on the weekends, and that’s the fact 7 min frequencies for the metro system from 6am to 9pm aren’t great but they’re also not terrible
Thanks for the tip! It is good to know this beautiful transit system is also frequent :)
And do the trams, the light rail and the busses have a decent frequency?
@@erikthehalfabee6234 Yeah i would say so, most of the trams are about every 5-7min at peak, but given that in city centre and on main tram corridors many lines are interlining each other, you can experience departures about every 1-3min. In Warsaw you can rarely experience tram tracks that carry less than 2 lines, even though single lines frequency can be mediocre the network makes up for this by commonly used interlining of tram lines. For most of the day each tram route frequency usually doesn’t drop below every 12 min but the main ones keep up great even off peak at 6min frequencies.
Speaking of the buses you can expect usually a frequency of 10-15 minutes for most of the day, but the express buses or the busier routes have a slightly better times averaging at about 6min.
We don’t really have a light rail system here, but speaking of rail in Warsaw you can use a regional and city rail on the same fare. Even though individually they’re frequency isn’t stunning combining them can result in something more sensible. Warsaw’s city railway SKM and the regional operator KM are usually mainly used for commuting from Warsaw’s smaller satellite towns or going to the one of the city airports.
One of the things that were not mentioned in this video is that Warsaw is expanding its Metro network. M2’s core section was opened in 2015 that’s correct, but author didn’t mention that M2 is constantly expanding since then and it has not been full build yet. The other thing is that not so long ago Warsaw city hall had announced building next metro lines: M3, M4 and M5. The M3 is currently in planning phase and the station designs and planned route has been published.
@@michat8830 you're clearly a proud ambassador of your city. Can one travel with one ticket on all the different forms of public transport in Warsaw?
@@erikthehalfabee6234 Yes, there are joint tickets (20min, 75min, a day and monthly) for buses, metro, trams, SKM (fast city trains) and KM (suburban trains). Also nice thing is that city bikes are pratically free of charge (up to 20 min free, up to 1 hr - 1 pln (0,2 eur).
Bro, Warsaw bus and trams frequency is wonderful compared to other cities in Poland. I'm from ~80k people town and I will never speak against Warsaw public trasport.
What a masterpiece, George!
Always looking forward to these City Unboxed episodes ! 🙌🙌
Thank you 🙂👍 Greetings from Poznań 🇵🇱 🌅 🇪🇺 🌻
Great video man!
It looks great that Warsaw is making some innovative changes to improve human mobility.
I hope to see some of this innovation in the Waterloo Region in Ontario, Canada. 🙂 There has been a lot of changes so far but making some routes more connected, but in progress, and priotizing safe intersections is lacking.
7:45 clearly shows trams on their own right of way, maybe waiting to traverse one of multiple T and traffic circle tram intersections
they have priority in right of way but not at mixed intersections
Well edited professional video...nice
Warsaw also has tram lines, and light train system (suburbia train). Calling tram network expensive is random, it is actually cheaper than bus. Tram has many lines, so that could ramp the cost.
What you can’t see during a brief visit is a vivid problem with cars parked on sidewalks all around the city. Sometimes it’s legal sometimes it’s not but the prosecution does not work. Overall it makes walking very unpleasant experience in some areas, especially outside the paid parking zone in the centre. It is the most common problem submitted by the municipal app.
Please come to montpellier, France….you can stay at our place
1:50 great example of incorrect parked cars on the pedestrian path and bike roads🙈
Rating public transport and cycling infrastructure the same is crazy. And 2 million people live in Wasaw not 3.
Depends on how you calculate it. 2,2 million living in Warsaw. Around 3.3 (data from 2014 by now it closes to 4m) in the whole aglomeration.
@@StanisawSolon the video talks about Warsaw. Why do you think Pruszków should be counted to the population of Warsaw?
Well, it's polish standard!
Warsaw has an extensive and wide road network, and many residents travel by car. Roads with 6 lanes (3 lanes in one direction) are nothing special.
It could be nice to have six lanes in one direction.
@@utahdan231 I wrote that there are three lanes, but I didn't design it. For me it should be one, but I understand that it is politically difficult to realize when there are so many drivers in the city.
@@utahdan231 and what would possibly the reason for that?
Poland is a heavily "car-saturated" country with 26.5 million cars and 37.5 million population. There are more cars registered in Warsaw than inhabitants(((
@@times4937 These are mostly cheap used cars from the west. One proper regulation of flue gases and their quality and 35% of them will disappear.
Nice movie though not all info provided is correct :) Well done anyway !
Indonesia, was it taken in Indonesia? Poland's national flag is similar to Indonesia's, but not with its public facilities. Public facilities in Indonesia as a whole are very poor. 😢
Actually, it is the traditional Czech Republic flag, traditional Polish flag should look like the flag of Austria, all the fuss with flags arose just after the First World War when some European countries regained independence and their traditional flags were "appropriated" by other countries.
Your film does not cover the whole of Warsaw, just the very centre - the most representative and developed part of the city. Outside this zone, the city looks very different in many ways.
Taipei Score🤔
Transit 3
Cycling 1
Walking 1
Bike-share 4
Total 9
😰😡😮💨🤧🥺😭
Scooters will banned …eventually
Visit other cities in Poland and you will not be pleasantly surprised 🙈
Why not ? ? ?
On what basis do you say that? Warsaw doesnt have the largest bicycle traffic in Poland. Other big cities are doing better with many things, especially with cycling infrastructure.
@@harpunonosy1232 experience, and it's not only regarding cycling infrastructure. Don't get me wrong, as a whole country we are still getting there. But the strive is real for a better, not car dependant standard
@@Franchesko653 I won't, I live here, it's a disaster, unless SKM is on time and you don't need to get anywhere else further from it
@@Franchesko653 you see Gdańsk is not only about Gdańsk, you shan't consider it as a single city. Tricity exists for a reason. "The cyclist road in Gdańsk are very good also", what does it mean? Road might be in a good condition, but drivers sometimes are trying to kill you. Not on purpose (sometimes alas yes), just lack of proper training and knowledge.
I think this is good score ! There is always palace for improvements! I wish we have this in US !!! Dream on !
