Does transmission fluid go all over when changing this part? Im going to change mine out and thought it was as simple as like 3 bolts and swap but now i see theres a cover over it and Im wondering if i need to prepare for transmission fluid to go everywhere once i get the cover off to get to this.

The problem with it is that everyday i start the car and the first 45min of driving. the PRND lights up, sometimes the car just dies and sometimes i lose my Reverse. After one hour of driving the symptomes go away. Is it the TCM? i have replaced the trans oil and both filters at Audi's service.

I was having slight issues with the dashboard PRNDS lights flashing when the car got warm and I selected reverse, sometimes the car would not engage reverse, but after moving into Park then back to reverse it would engage, the PRNDS then would stop flashing when selecting D again. I decided to get the TCU repaired, but after I put it back on teh car I get a beep on dash with ABS, Traction Control and Brakes lights on. When I try and select any gears they do not engage and car does not move??I have a fault code of P1647, can you suggest anything !?

Question: I am having problems with my 2004 Audi A6 CVT neutral safety switch which is located on the TCM. The problem is that it has not triggers a code. After driving my Audi for 20 minutes I am unable to start it for about 2 hours. When I try to start it goes straight to battery. The N and P are not illuminated when I select them with the shifter, after 2 hours I am able to select these gears again and the "put foot on brake to select gears light comes up on the shifter.
Question: I own an 2003 Audi A6 3.0L and facing the same repair, replacing the CVT TCM. What do you think about having it remanufactured vs buying a new one? I notice there are a few companies on Ebay that advertise remanufacturing of the TCM and looks to be a cheaper solution than purchasing a new one that could possibly fail again. Thanks
Greg, At this point we have not had any rebuilt. As long as a reputable company is used you would hope it would be a permanent repair. Unfortunately only time will tell. +David Cohen yes is sounds like it has failed. Usually though the PNRD symbols will all have the back light illumination on so that it shows all gears engaged. If that is the case then thats more than likely your cause. I would always recommend to have it diagnosed to see for sure

Question: 06 Audi A4: P0706:Range sensor issue, I'm assuming it's the close to the same issues for my Audi that your customer had with his. It has the same type of transmission set up, it is a cvt transmission and not a 4motion. You talked about about 2 possibilities to fixing the problem. Either linkage which I agree would be extremely rare, or the TCM, is there a possibility of the issue being the range sensor/neutral safety switch instead or is that something on this type of vehicle that is rare as well to go bad? mark0506 On these transmissions, the range sensor/ control unit are all incorporated into the one unit. Its just a common issue on these transmissions. When we see this fault and this symptom, it has been the module every time that we have seen. You should always diagnose it just in case. Thanks for watching!!

+khursheed faraz That sounds like the Module is going out if it is a CVT transmission. There are many places that can fix those VS replacement. BBA Reman is a company that we use for rebuilds. Hope that helps

Moe Hamad it's your TCM transmission control module you can get them repaired, first sign is reverse going out . Audi will want 2500 to fix it maybe more I'm sending mine out to be repaired the module and then have it put back in by my mechanic.

so I had my TCM repaired and put back in. Car seemed to be good, no check engine no limp. GF drives it an hour and a half away andd the car is back in LIMP. Struggles out of 1st gear. I started the car in neutral and for some reason the check engine light came on. I'm broke, panicky and at my wits end. I need some help so I dont have to tell my kids I'm not taking them camping this weekend afterall. I checked the code after the lights came back on and its saying range sensor again. There was some oil on the TCM connector, the part OUTSIDE of the transmission and my fear is that I blew the TCM out. 2002 Audi A4 CVT.
Hello, I have a Audi A4 1.8T that has CVT, runs fine when cold but as it worms it will jerk and shudder from a take off and all other speeds will be fine. Is this mostly a valve issue or clutch disc's problems? Thank you
I have the same problem as well. when it's cold it moves forward from a complete stop but as it get to normal temperature when i come to a stop i have to press the accelerator reving the engine until it engages again then it launches forward. On the highway it's smooth no problems @75-80 mph.
I would advice your're customer to check with audi they have the made and extended waranty on this ECU the car has to be within a centain millage and year I have a customer that we replaced this part and we had the fault codes on the invoice and then he got his money back from Audi the car in Question was a 2005 Audi A4 Convertible front wheel drive I'm from Canada in the US It could be different I can't remember of the actual fault code I have done 2 of them the second was out of that extended waranty I think that the guy even got a letter from audi and ignored it too bad it could've been free for him.

hi have you tried putting it in to n first then it will engage fully as its a ecu fault on gearbox will cost about 195 to fix

lol what a rip off . get rid of that dodgy dealer. go to some german specialist. i know 1 in UK. not sure where you're about.

Well the early CVT transmissions had issues with the valve body sticking. Audi Released a TSB about it. What year do you have?
I have a 2002 Audi 1.8T A4. Is a TSB like a recall?

yes i had a heck of a time finding the TCM but that was my problem
so it was located on the back on the tranny on the valve body?
back of tranny its a plug on outside with alot of torx bolts its in there u gonna lose fluid its inside

You can clear the code with a vagcom but if it comes back you may want to fix the problem
