  • Perch fishing rigs and tips on Jigging and Jig Heads when lure fishing around our UK rivers. Tactics to help you catch more big perch. Included are lures such as the Crazyfish Nimble, Berkeley Havoc Rocket Craws and Korum Shads. Fishing with a shad or creature bait allows us to cover lots of water to find the fish. Creature baits are probably one of my favourite ways to fish.
    We discuss Jig head weight and hook size. Weights are an important part of catching perch when Jigging. Perch fishing on the River Lea and River Stort.

    well done mate very informative video, also makes me feel better as i fish the same river from time to time, stick the miles in , cast until my shoulder is knackered and still dont get the rewards, the thing that keeps me going back is i know they are in there. See you on the next one

    I always find that if I’ve had a knock and missed it that a change off colour to lure it sometimes makes em have another go and perch seem to get very bored quickly and a colour change helps a lot , not that I’m a really angler but it’s helped me a bit over the years , great videos though and your show just how many blanks you have like most off us 👍

    Have you ever tried pitching as a casting technique? You find loads of bass pitching tutorials on you tube. I practiced in my garden shooting jig heads into a bucket. Transformed my short to med range lure fishing. Faster and more accurate once you get the technique down. Im really enjoying your vids, keep up the good work!!!!!!!

    Well done on your perseverance. I'm only fishing canals at the moment, but intend to have a go on the Severn near Shrewsbury. Totally agree about hang time. The majority of my hooks have 2g heads, sometimes I'll go to 5g. One problem I have is finding 2g heads with longer hooks. They always seem to be short shanked, though to be fair, alot of the perch I catch have swallowed the bait or bent it over enough to hook. Love your vids. Thanks 👍

    Even 18 pound fluo leader won't be a guarantee for pike tho. This season it happened a bit too often for my liking, 3 times had a pike cut through the dropshot leader almost instantly...9kg fluo is a gamble. Usually use 20kg fluo as a leader for crankbaits and such.

    Nice job on the video. I think I'm the only guy that fish for perch here in the US 🇺🇸 like you guys over in Europe. People always look at me like I'm crazy 😜 but when I catch on its usually a jumbo as we'd say my way. Try popping a lipless crankbait off bottom and make a video about it. I've had alot of success these last few years with this technique for bigger perch and I'd love to see if the perch your way react the same. 👏🏽🎣🐟. Job well done

    Nice Perch at the end, you are right about the weight of a jig head, ive always used the lightest l can get away with as l have had a lot of Perch and Pike take the lure as it has dropped back to the bottom, the slower it falls the better, l have tried heavier jig heads but takes on a falling lure are very rare as the lure shoots to the bottom too quickly to get a reaction, as for colours of jig heads l couldn't say as most of mine are unpainted and l get plenty of action, l am more interested in the movement of the rubber body than the colour of the head, keep up the good work.

      Some parts of that section still had low lying weed. Even with a light jighead it can fall and get clogged in it. Generally the colder it gets the slower I go. That’s only a general rule, I still like to mix it up. Finally, I think everyone has ‘their style’ and it’s true that mine is quite fast. I literally have to concentrate to slow myself down! Hi, hopefully someone can give me a bit of advice on jig fishing.
    I'm using a 7ft Maver jig rod, with a Mitchell reel which matches the rod.
    I started with a 7lb braid, but I just struggled with the knots. For whatever reason the braid just kept slipping. So I swapped the braid to a heavier and stiffer braid. I quickly realised, that was way to thick. So I went back to my old faithful 8lb Maxima Cameleon.
    One thing that has happened with both braids and my line is I keep getting these random tangles during the cast.
    All I can think is the line or braid is twisting during the cast, because the jigs is twisting and rolling on the cast.
    Has anyone else come across this issue before?

    • @Lifeonthebank
      @Lifeonthebank  Před 2 lety

      Hmm … maybe a bit too fine. I use the snapper illumin8 in 11lb and have no problems 👍

      @davidtrivett4334 Před 2 lety

      @@Lifeonthebank Thank you, I think I may have figured out the problem. Basically I added a snap link, so I could change the jigs quickly.
      I think I should have added a swivel to the snap link too, that should stop the line or braid spinning.

    Hi
    Just wanted to say I’m enjoying your tutorials. Very “real” putting the fact that you have those “no fish” days, those videos where you get a fish every chuck can be misleading. I know this seems silly to say, but “does putting more action into the lure induce more takes”? (Some days I just find myself pulling the lures through the water, with minimal results)
    In other words it can be quite a mental attitude to bring together the physical side of fishing and the mental alertness in training yourself to impart the action. I hope that makes sense! Once again, learning a lot from your videos which are appreciated. Tight lines.

    • @Lifeonthebank
      @Lifeonthebank  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for checking out the channel! I think it’s very easy in lure fishing to slip into a state of mind where you become quite robotic! I feel like I manage to avoid this by keeping my sessions short. How I fish during this time is effect by time of year, conditions and by what’s happening in front of me. I hope that helps! 👍👍👍
