This is why I've always thought FWD > AWD for hot hatches. Of course I'd take a RWD sports car over either, but if you need the practicality of 5 doors, torque steer is kind of fun and AWD is too easy.

Mazdaspeed 3 dungeon tip, to disable boost by gear and the awful swas sensor (steering wheel angle sensor) there is a connector on the steering rack, takes 30 seconds to do and lets you have all the fun😁 As someone who regulairly tracks a 400+whp 2011 speed 3 that was the first and best thing i could do for driveability.

Hey, this is my car, same color and stock too! Only upgrade is my set of Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 that transformed this car. I have mine for 5 years now, just took it last night for a back road run and this car still puts a huge smile on my face. It has been very reliable, only regular maintenance. To me, the new Mazda 3 turbo is an insult compared to this.

I so wanted the MazdaSpeed3 back in 2011, but I couldn’t fit a baby seat in the back so it was a no-go for me. But the driving experience so good, I ended up finding a used MazdaSpeed6 instead. That 2.3 is a beast, but it is a little underwhelming in 1-2 gear. 3-4 was the sweet spot. Now I own a Hyundai Elantra N, which definitely reminds me of both the Speed3 and Speed6, but with the DCT it’s so much quicker. Great review!

I've got a 2010 Mazda 3 base model 2.0L NA motor with the 5spd, basically an MS3 with exactly half the torque, lol. I agree the hydraulic steering feels great, with light initial weight, which ramps up to a pretty hefty weight when cornering, which is great for letting you know when the front is starting to let go! I love this chassis because with all the rear grip from the independent multilink rear suspension, you can trail brake really aggressively to keep the front planted without worrying about the rear breaking away unpredictably. My favourite act in this vehicle is speeding up for a left hander in an intersection before a light changes, and aggressively braking while turning in. It does it so confidently with just the right amount of rear end slip!

I’ve been driving my 2008 mazdaspeed 3 and fell in love with it. The transmission is raw and allows you to feel in charge. It doesn’t feel like it’s feeding the shifts through the computer system. It feels incredible through turns on a stock suspension and gives you full control. I absolutely love my mazdaspeed 3 and would recommend it to anyone that is willing to put in the time and effort to maintain it.
If you want to feel the mazdaspeed 3 in it’s full form I recommend buying an intake and inlet pipe with a light tune up to 300hp. At 300hp it feels like an animal while giving you full control of steering and power.
If you’re curious about what will need to be done in order to maintain it feel free to shoot me a message and ask as many questions as you wish

Yup, I agree. I wish Mazda would still build something similar to this nowadays. Seems like such a fun car to drive, with the torque steer and the short gears. The cob tune and intake really take the car to the next level without sacrificing reliability; They make the car competitive with modern hot hatches especially in traffic from a dig. My only complaint is that the all season tires I have on it at the moment don't have the most grip and so if I get into the gas too quickly, I will just spin up the tires all through first gear.

Hey hey! I've got a 2013 Speed3 tech package. Upgraded turbo and all the other good stuff. First car I bought for myself out of high school. Got it brand new. Regrettably it's been down for 4 years now.

  • @brotherhood_ofstreetracers4268

Bought mine stock in 2019 with 48k miles . Since then i’ve gone somewhat all out with it lol. Built bottom end head has valve springs . Lot bigger of a turbo auxiliary fueling both manifolds full exhaust solid mounts car definitely loves modifications

I really liked the Mazdaspeed6 when it came out - the standard Mazda 6 was my first daily and it was a blast to drive with the 6-cylinder. I wish Mazda would build a proper sports sedan again but I don't think that will ever happen. If they came out with a Mazdaspeed6 again (especially if it was in wagon form) I'd probably get one. Mazdaspeed as a whole is something I think would sell well these days for Mazda, even if they put the Mazdaspeed treatment on their SUVs (like BMW does with the M Sport packages).

Actually just got my own 08 speed3 just this week lol, 135k miles and the only thing wrong with it was a broken thermometer but it's in otherwise stellar condition. I love the damn car so much and it's actually been a comfortable platform to learn manual on, if you're cool with premium gas then i'd recommend the hell out of em
And of course the original owner had a CAI, HPFP, and tune lol

I’m only 17 but I worked my ass off to buy my 2nd speed3. I had Gen 1 at first and then traded it in and bought Gen 2 at 16. Definitely worth it, considering I pretty much learned stick on this car lol. Great car all around for sure.

If you look at my channel, I owned a 2013 Speed3 and used it as a daily, then autocrossed it. It ALWAYS put a smile on my face, even after 6 years of ownership. I'm right there with you on being disappointed in Mazda for killing the Mazdaspeed line, because a current Speed3 to compete with the Type R would be incredible.

    I've had 3x Mazdas in my life, 2x of which I still own (sold 2001 Protege ES 5MT, still own 2014 Mazda3 2.0 6MT & 2001 Mazda Miata 1.8 6MT)
I remember testdriving this exact car; a 2013 Mazdaspeed3 (in white I believe). And I remember that steering wheel almost being ripped from my hands and came so close from highspeed curbing both driver-side wheels. It was really quick. I always disliked that interior, but it was a really cool experience. Loved that rush of boost.

  • @dreamingsoul4722

I had one of these new back in 2012 and kept it until 2016. I can firmly say it’s one of the best, if not the best car I’ve owned even though I’ve owned a bunch of other great cars like 4 STIs, a Brz Ts, ND2 miata. I went nuts with full bolt ons with a Cobb stage 3+ package and it was very fast! It had other proper mods like full suspension and brakes to balance it out.. truly miss my car.
Can you guys do an Evo X vídeo? It’s one of those cars that I wished I owned but could not get my hands on one.

I had an 08 Mazdaspeed3, those cars actually had the boost restriction in 1st and 2nd gear as well. They also had a sensor that limited power based on the steering angle. I wasn’t a fan of either, luckily they were fairly easy to disable.
It was an awesome car especially after a few tweaks to the suspension.

I had to have the driver side wheel bearing replaced in my Accord last week. The mechanic who did it had a blue MS3 with 82k on it that he bought new. It still had the factory air box on it and was bone stock also. I love these cars all except for the front end design on these years. The first gens were better looking imo.

My daily driver is an unmodified 2013 speed3. Mid 50s dude who used to drive a mazda3 stick as a lease for my 30 min work commute but when I went to turn it in couldnt get another stick, only autos, so as I was leaving the lot they were like, are you faimilar with the mazdaspeed...? and after the lease was up I bought it. So fun, so low key, love it. Some issues - shift knob has fallen apart twice at 320 bucks a pop (leather wrap peels off), both visors have had to be replaced (stopped staying up), the front door speakers (bose system) rotted (but when I replaced them the inside of the doors were immaculate, no signs of corrosion or crud), the dash lcd panel is slowly failing, and as of a few days ago the leather on the top of the steering wheel started disintegrating, temporary wrap arriving tomorrow. But I look forward to driving every time. So quick, so unruly, or as my wife likes to say, so much power in a tiny package. wait...

I had the’13 white with black accents. I sold it and got a new Mustang GT in ‘19. Sometimes, I actually prefer it to the GT. I think cars like this are perfect for street fun. I can’t really use the GT’s power consistently. Lower horsepower = more daily fun.

the 2013 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3, Ford Focus ST, and Hyundai Velosters of that era were really shocking/ugly/scary. it is interesting how it stacks up to a rival contemporary 2013 Honda Civic Si’s price and reliability by offering way more horsepower/performance thanks to the turbo. Fast enough to take on a Subaru Impreza WRX and Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart; and fast enough to dust a Toyota Matrix XRS.
