      That may be..but tsunami is the Japanese word for harbor wave..and is a relatively new tern for English speaker whom before the adoption of the Japanese term referred to all tsunamis as Tidal Waves...and would even call known earthquake generated Tsunamis "tidal waves" until the 20th century. There are many still in this world that don't know the term " tsunami" and refer to all large waves as tidal waves...so depending on whom you talk to one cannot easily determine the origin of a wave in a video by what it's being called.

    • @lemunt4906
      @lemunt4906 Před rokem

      Not true, the Tongan tsunami had a height of 1.2 meters or 3 foot 11 inches. While the 2011 Japan tsunami would have had a height of 40 meters or 132 meters. Had it been double the size of the 2011 Japan tsunami we would not have any footage of the wave as basically all of the buildings on Tonga would have be overrun by water or collapsed like legos. Just total annhilation with only a few fisherman on boats that would have survived had they been far enough out at sea.

    So many years is well known, that tsunami is not a tidal wave, maybe similar-to-tide wave or flood wave. Many years has not occured tsunami inciated by volcano arruption and collapse like Krakatau/Krakatoa in August 1883. But the video is great. My dream is to see tsunami, also small as the last one in January 2024 in Japan. But from the safe, enough high place. Not so close like you. It expects courage I have not enough.

    Awe and horror at once to see this. If the Cumbre Vieja volcano in La Palma Island of Spain have erupted more violently like this one, half of the mountain would have slid into the Atlantic Ocean, and the tsunami generated by it would have been 10 times bigger than this one, perhaps like the Japan and Sumatra tsunamis combined.

      @michaelcaplin8969 Před 2 lety +4

      The waves were also 15 meter tall in several places in Tonga. It really doesn't have too much to do about the power of the wave itself, but so much to do with coastal bathymetry deciding whether or not a wave is going to be huge or small.

    • @alexlyster3459
      @alexlyster3459 Před 2 lety +1

      These might have been "low" but the issue is the sheer volume of incoming water at that height.

    • @rolandlee6898
      @rolandlee6898 Před 2 lety

      Its low because the water is deep and open. Ends up in a long but low wave. If the beach has shallow water or worse - a bay - the wave would rise accordingly.

    For Americans watching these you should be looking at the disaster that's very likely to occur in our lifetimes, an earthquake along the Cascadian Subduction Zone off the coast of Oregon and Washington. It consistently Goes off every 250 years, with full powerful breaks every 500. The last big one was in 1700. When it goes Seattle gets washed off the map entirely
