I've been type 1 for over 30yrs, I'm now blind in 1 eye completely, limited sight in the other, neuropathy in different parts of my feet and hands, and really bad teeth. The complications slowly creeped in, then all kind of stack up at one time. Now I'm stable, but wish I would have had better control earlier. Thanks for doing this video to remind people to stay on top of their health. 🙂✌️

Sorry for this being so late. I was at 8-9 most of the time. Ow I'm down in the 6s and 7s, but I'm working on getting it lower still.

Everything you mentioned is also applicable to T2D. I wasn't diagnosed with type 2 until the excruciating neuropathy pain set in. No matter how perfect I control all my numbers, nothing is helping with the pain.

I know several D1T, not a single complication so far - among which is a woman 67 years old, being D1T since her birth, she even survived cancer...but poor blood sugar management certainly will cause consequences. Overall, it seems that people affected with D1T in older ages as 20ies and later are under greater stress and pressure than those diagnosed in early childhood.

Good summary of the fears we all face with T1D.

Diabetes educators are almost as bad as most Endocrinologists. I'm so glad we're doing the opposite of what they recommend with our son who was diagnosed a year ago at age 9. 11+ A1C is now under 5.2. Low carb, high protein for the win!

My niece who has diabetes type one for about two years now and is 11 years old and she is very active. I’m helping her to train for a 5k which will be this Thanksgiving (the 5k Turkey trot). Right now she is wearing a fanny pack when we run or bike or other actives. In the fanny pack she has her iPhone and her PDM. When her I phone is is her fanny pack all she has to say is- hi Siri what is my sugar and Siri will say what it is so that is working out great when we are running and biking and other activity.
I also have a I phone and an apple watch. Is there a way I can look on my apple watch or ask my Siri what is her sugar is (blood glucose level) without keep asking her every 5 or 10 minutes? She has a Dexcom 6 and she also is wearing a Omnipod pump. Because of her Diabetes type I I’m still learning running and biking with her because her level are all over the place and I’m hoping with practice the levels will stay level more then it is now. plus I’m trying to keep her safe while she is with me when we are running.
Because she is new to running I was going to run the 5k with her and it would be a lot easier on her if I could just look on my apple watch or my I phone instead if keep asking her. I just want her to focus on running and I can keep monitoring her Blood glucose level while running beside her. Thanks for your time

Yes you can add the Dexcom app to your Apple Watch!

I trust you have the Dexcom Share/Follow app on your phone? You can see her glucose level from anywhere there is iPhone communications. App allows up to 10 people to follow the readings. My wife has it on her phone and occasionally I'll get a text asking if I'm doing ok. Share/Follow can also show graphs of the readings every 5 minutes in 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 hour segments. I don't know if you can ask Siri using the Share/Follow app.

The diabetes devices market was $28.1billion in 2022, it's expected to be $118billion by 2032
make of that what you will... I'm personally just not quite sure if a cure is a priority.

Even if you control your diabetes well, complications will come over the years, better look for cure insted you rather settling for new devices for measuring sugar 😂
