Great vid.! Just had to do the same thing on MY daughter's car. Not the same symptoms, though. She ended up plowing the inside, vertical curb face of a round-a-bout. When picking the car up from the scene of the umfortimate event, I noticed the fluid on the ground & thought it was maybe a busted fitting or a line that was frayed. Got it home & started to assess, & noticed a busted pan. No big deal, right? Wrong! Pulled the pan & a small section of the case came with it. So a tranny R & R was clearly in my future. Your coverage of the job was excellent! No essential items were missed & no redundancies. U seem like a super cool fella.🤘
I watched this video cause I'm having to rebuild my engine in 2016 Elantra GT I had forgotten which way the flex plate went on, anyway I seen in one frame of your video which way. I watched the whole thing very good insightful video buddy thank you very much for putting such helpful info out for us to use.
Young man, you are awesome, very good job. I’ve seen other “ mechanics “ perform the same job at a shop with all the tools and sophisticated equipment and have 1-3 guys helping. It’s only you NICE 👍🏽… Thank you for the feedback..
Thanks appreciate it. I do have help from the fam but tool wise I have bare minimum as most of us do. So I try to prove a point to others you can do big jobs just have to improvise on things.
Thanks for putting this video out! My son in law has a 2016 Hyundai ELANTRA, which we believe is in need of a new transmission and we plan on replacing it ourselves to avoid getting bent over at the transmission shop. Your video is very insightful. Thanks again!
Same here, you can never tell the kind of mechanics we have these days. I'm still looking for a transmission for my 2015 accent. Kindly let me know if you find a good deal. Many thank
My wife Elantra just started with the same problem and same noise, I consider myself a skill mechanic person but now with your video definitely I will do this job, now hopefully I find a good deal, thank you brother good video 👌👍
That sucks about the transmission however it’s not to bad changing it out. Good luck with the swap and finding a good deal on a transmission. Thanks for watching the video and the feedback.
i just completely broke my tansmission you know something broke when you hear a snapping sound so once i get the tranny going to use your very helpful guide to replace it thank you for this
So much easier to remove your cv axles by taking the two lower bolts out of the strut and then folding the knuckle out. No need to mess around with ball joints! I just did a Hyundai Kona tranny swap this week that way.
Unfortunately transmission are on back order for my girlfriends 2016 Elantra, but as soon as it gets here I’ll be tackling this myself. Thank you for the details video, it will be an IMMENSE help for me and I’m sure plenty of others. Apparently these transmissions don’t last too long.
Thanks for showing how to do this and thanks for Your hard work on this Transmission Job.👍✌.I'm sure Your Daughter was very greatful for doing this for Her.Thanks.
Good video, man. It's really helpful. I'm doing mine in the shop, and I think I will hold the engine from the top instead of supporting it from the bottom
I am so impressed that you changed the transmission. Like this motives me to always think outside the box and rely yourself to work and save money. Like seriously you deserve a pad in a the back.
Great job. This is amazing. My 2015 Elantra went in for an oil leak and they said they had to pull the tranny to actually finish the job. Transmission went out 2 weeks later. Coincidence or not, it’s really weird. It didn’t whine like your car did. It just stopped going into great. I could still reverse though.
Overall, again thank you, this is the exact same transmission, and engine bay, in my girl’s 2014-2017 Hyundai Accent, everything was so identical and this video helped out a lot. Thank you again (would you mind putting 2014-2017 Hyundai Accent on the title or description) thank you
Are you saying that 13 to 17 has the same automatic trans because I have a new trans that's on a 2016? I wanna put it on my 2013. But ebay listing shows 15 to 17 on transmission but 12 to 17 on motor. Can someone confirm these 6 speed auto trans are the same, just like the motor. It should be m6cf1 auto trans. Just wanna confirm I can relearn if need be because I'm a locksmith with lots of experience. If someone can confirm, I'll buy lunch.
@@segounlocks5029 from 2015 to 2017 it use a 6 speed transmission like elantra from the same years. but hyundai accent from 2011 till 2014 use a different one.
My trans just went bad on my Hyundai Accent this is giving me hope I can possibly do it myself. My dad was a mechanic for many years now retired so he’s got the tools necessary. I’d hate to junk my car to many memories made with it
Those 2 lights that are on.have to do with the front suspension, the abs, and the tracking control have to do with the electric power steering, it could be the inner& outer tierod since it works in conjunction you can turn them off by restting it or by taking either battery cable off .
When you put the torque converter bolts into the flex plate did you leave a small gap or did you screw the bolts down all the way into the torque converter? I have a 2005 hyundai elantra and I’m not sure if I need a small gap. There was a small gap when I took the transmission off the old engine.
Man, I got exhausted by just watching this. God bless you guys for the hard working. By the way, I just wondering if it is worth it to change the transmission. I check the price and it shows around 3500.
Was going to ask if the transmissions from 2014 thru 2017 are interchangeable on the 1 8 liter? Lots of scrap yards say no but as long as the harness works it should interchange.
I am just curious there is no check engine light on before replacing the Transmission. The sound that comes when you pedal on the gas is a sign though!
Well im getting ready to do this on a friends car so thank you for sharing the video. Looks like a torch converter failure i have s friend that rebuilds transmissions so i just have to r&r it. With this video it should be s piece of cake

Only a handful of people I have known that have taken out engines and transmissions on their driveway. One was my stepfather. He was a mechanic by trade but on the weekends he fixed his own cars.
I have the bare minimum tools and no shop like most of us. I hope this helps others to do their own projects and realize you don’t need a shop to save money
Good job! Very nice video. Btw, what is the part number/model numbber of the transmission? Was it T-U_2997? And where did you get the trans from? Thanks
Curious, how did you handle lifting that transmission? Did you lift it by yourself or a must 2 person? Didn't show in the video you unloading the new one or when you put it on top of the jack. I plan on making an attempt on changing my transmission (I got a Sentra like yours), looking to see how hard it will be lugging it around and throwing it on top of a jack.
Thanks for the vid. Curious is how heavy is the transmission? I have 2013 Hyundai Veloster and the procedure is almost identical to Elantra and was just curious since one day I have to change the clutch on my transmission (Its a Dual Clutch Transmission and like Manual its great until the clutch wear out and need replacing).

I than started the car and topped it off again than drove it just down the street and back and topped it off again. After that I went for a 10 min drive and checked again and it was good.
I’m having transmission problems as well with my Elantra. The sound isn’t like this but it’s more a whining sound in park and drive. Took it to 3 different mechanic and 3!” Different answer. It’s stressing. I really don’t wanna purchase a new transmission. 1 saying could be a failing pump other saying water got in and other says it’s a bearing issue.
Our 2013 Elantra makes a similar sound and only when accelerating. My husband is a well skilled mechanic and after seeing your videos and detailed information he is going to install a new transmission. But we would like to know when you replaced your daughter’s transmission did you take the car to the dealer to program the transmission after the replacement reinstall? Please let us know. Side note: I love that your son was out there helping you!
After the install their was no need for programming. As long as you put the same transmission in it than your ecu will run it the same no problem. My kids are always willing to help and love doing stuff with me it’s been so much fun getting my kids involved. Thanks for watching the video and good luck with your transmission swap you guys got this.
Thanks for the video,Sir!! Really, really helpful and comprehensive. One questions though. How well you need to hold the motor before removing the transmission mounts? Does the engine hang by itself without transmission?
Great video. I would love to find a transmission for $200. Huge price difference for 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter transmission. 2 liter is $300. 1.8 liter is $2000 in a 2016. Why? No idea. I am jealous. Wish I had a 2 liter.
Thanks for the video. I have a 2013 Elantra, which is part of the 5th generation of these cars. It looks almost exactly like the one in the video. Do you think your demonstration would pertain to my car as well?
Just look on the bottom side of motor and see if you would have to remove the subframe. If you do securely hold the motor with jacks or blocks and remove subframe and than do the transmission removal should be close. And yes it will still help you
Great video, really appreciate you taking the time to show bolts list sizes and remind helpful hints during the process. Thank you!
Excellent video - straight to the point and not a lot of useless chatter. Good camera shots. Much appreciated!

Where did you pick that transmission up with 3,000 Mi on it for $200 or did I misunderstand that

Great video. I would love to find a transmission for $200. Huge price difference for 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter transmission. 2 liter is $300. 1.8 liter is $2000 in a 2016. Why? No idea. I am jealous. Wish I had a 2 liter.
We’re did you buy that transmission from for $200.00
Awesome vid! Did you go with OEM fluid or aftermarket?? If so which one?
Thanks again and Just go with oem fluid
Thanks for the video. I have a 2013 Elantra, which is part of the 5th generation of these cars. It looks almost exactly like the one in the video. Do you think your demonstration would pertain to my car as well?
Just look on the bottom side of motor and see if you would have to remove the subframe. If you do securely hold the motor with jacks or blocks and remove subframe and than do the transmission removal should be close. And yes it will still help you
