    Great video! Some tips: start from 2000rpm in second gear(because of its low end torque it should do up to 6 tenths of a second faster due to less wheel spin) by the way you should be able to hit 60 right before shifting to third. Keep making this great videos and good luck!

  • @whoobibi
    @whoobibi Před 8 lety +2

    Pre-loading the suspension helps -- with the manual transmission, that usually involves using the handbrake. If you are going to launch in 1st gear, you'll want to turn off ESC and keep the revs lower on launch, say around 2 or 3 thousand RPM. Another option is to launch in 2nd gear, so you don't have to shift at all to get to 60. The 2nd gear is aggressive enough that you can do that. Also, don't shift up prematurely, if you are shifting much before 6800 rpm you are giving away some time. You shouldn't need to use 3rd gear at all.

    @InexplicableBill Před 9 lety +2

    Dave, I recommend a clutch-launch class with a pro on a racetrack. There's a fine art in engaging the clutch partially to let it slip to build torque at a reasonable RPM (like around 3,500) without causing wheel spin, and when you're up to 20 MPH or so you lift your foot for full clutch engagement and hammer the throttle, tires fully hooked up. Granted doing this repeatedly can overheat and warp the clutch. It's certainly not how you do it at every stop sign going to get a gallon of milk... (although I'm definitely guilty of this...) But when you really wanna just haul a$$, that's the trick. It takes practice, lots, and one of the rogue variables is the shift of your body mass and the resultant fine motor tweaks you need to accommodate to hold those clutch and throttle positions.

  • @stevensanchez330
    @stevensanchez330 Před 9 lety +29

    Two words you need to learn and practice. Pre-Load and Powershift. I took my 2015 Honda Accord Coupe V6 Manual to the track and had problems getting my tires to hook up. After talking to a few people in my crowd I learned these two words and did the quarter mile in 14.4 @ 99 mph, I know magazines claim faster times.
    Thanks for the awesome videos Dave!!!

    Just purchased this car, a V6 6-speed manual in black. During the weekend I installed a friend's Advan RSII racing rims in 18x9.0 et35 and 18x10.0 et35 on 245/40/18 and 265/35/18 on Sumitomo summer tires. The combined tire/rim package is around 9-11lbs lighter on each corner. According to Car and Driver they were able to get a 0-60 m.p.h. around 5.6 seconds on the stock 18x8.0 rims that are grossly heavy and the non sticky all season tires. With the new tire and rim package were able to get a 0-60 around 5.4 seconds. We launched the car at 2000 r.p.m. (still too much spin). Overall, the Accord has too much torque to get adequate launch times. Another factor that was even more noticeable is acceleration once the car was rolling. Then again, these rims aren't cheap and cost around 2,500.00 brand new. You gotta pay to play.

    Dave, I think you need to do two or three things. For a FWD naturally aspirated with a good amount of torque and hp, you need to rpm to probably about 2500-3000 max to get a good launch (I'd say). For this Honda, I believe you can keep it in second gear and get to 60 mph. On a different note, I wouldn't recommend to drive in neutral in the public roads. Keep your car in gear. In case of an emergency where you need to accelerate, brake, or swerve you will have a lot more control over the car with a much faster reaction.

    many people have hit 4.5 seconds with this model before, i know you're 2000ft above sea level, but that doesnt call for reving it so high at launch. rev it up to 3 grand, dump the clutch and floor it. this is an easy way to prevent lots of wheel spin and get a better time.

    HFP version (Honda Factory Performance) of the V6 manual coupe will get 5 seconds flat. I have personally done it (on the 3rd try after owning the car for a month). The HFP comes with a stiffer suspension, 19" wheels and summer only tires, and of course all the body mods and interior goodies (ups the price 6 grand and was a limited edition, cut off after 500 HFP kits sold per year in all of U.S.). So when and if you see a Dealer installed HFP edition Accord, it is truly a rare car. In another video, the guy was hitting 60 in second gear; you just need to red line it. The same guy also did better than Everyman Driver times in very rainy weather and starting in 2nd gear. This Honda is notoriously geared for low torque, so it takes time and feel for the car to get the 5.5 the stock version is rated for. But from personal experience, summer only tires makes quite a big difference on any performance vehicle, since they are much more sticky and planted... but seem to wear out faster.

    as people have pointed out, you shouldn't rev the engine so high on a take off. Wheelspin sounds cool, but it really slows you down. You have to get that smooth start so the wheels can grab, and then rip it. I'm not a fan of Honda, but this car should hit 60 in at most 6seconds.

    My 2004 BMW 325 CI 2.5L manual coupe is rated at a measly 184 hp compared to the 330's 225hp and I managed 7.30's a couple of times with a little wheel spin. BMW claimed the e46 325 2.5L manual did 7.1 seconds 0-60 and the 330's 3.0L did 6.3 seconds. Low 7's on the e46 2.5L tells me BMW under rated the 2.5L with only .08 of a seconds between the two cars. It would seem to be more like 200 hp. This Accord Coupe V6 manual will be my next daily car when I decide to let my e46 go.

    I enjoy your reviews alot, especially because you represent the average driver. Here is my thought though, and I am not trying to be insulting by saying this. Why don't u spend some time in a high performance driving school, such as Bob Bondurant, or something similar. U could probably even make that into an everyman video. I am sure while u were there, u would learn car control techniques, such as drifting, and proper launch techniques as well. Not to mention proper heel and toe, and rev matching. Just my two cents. Thank you again for the excellent and unbiased reviews. I am certainly jealous of the opportunity that u have made for yourself, and of u getting to work with Melissa too.

  • @hammerhome7879
    @hammerhome7879 Před 8 lety

    You should not need 3rd gear to hit 60 , that's your mistake, the time you took to shift could have been left on throttle. Launch at 2000rpm and slip it out on the clutch as you feed more gas to balance that wheel spin with traction , its a trade off. Red line is not the rev limiter , you can do 60 in the first 2 gears without hurting the car.

    @MegaHollywood1971 Před 6 lety

    In the Manual, you're better off just starting from a ZERO dig. Foot in clutch and gas about half pedal whilst letting go. Shift points are not at the top of the RPM band 6300-6500rpm is as far as you need to go so that you fall back on max torque again. Cheers! Mid 5's are very possible in the M/T. The Automatic is roughly .2-.3sec faster.

    Starting off way to hot for a fwd car with lots of low end torque. Pretty certain your over revving the engine. Just because it can hit 7000 rpm doesn't mean you should. It's peak power is at 6200 and peak torque at 4900. I would shift closer to the peak power.

  • @shamelessnjc
    @shamelessnjc Před 8 lety

    Try launching at around 2500-3k rpm. Too much torque too soon is causing the wheel spin. Motor Trend and Car and Driver were both able to get around 5.6-6.0 seconds out of this car. Higher elevations shouldn't effect it that much.

    I run consistent 6.2s in my 03 accord coupe with a 4 banger and 5 speed manual, only thing done to it is an intake and better tired (Yokohamas). I'd kill for this car your driving lol same color as mine. Nice vid!

    This car is capable of under 6. Try launching around 2500-3k rpm, traction control off,and feather the throttle your self to control wheel spin yourself.

    1800 is the best rpm for launch. Any more and the tires spin, which you figured out, any less and the engine bogs. How do I know this? I had an 08 6/6 coupe. At the track my 1/4 mile times were 13.9-14.2 at 98-99 mph... 1800... Trust me....

    Dude you're killing me. You rev the engine waayyy too high then wonder why you get so much wheelspin. Turn tc off, don't rev the engine so high (no more than 3500 RPM, maybe less), and feather the throttle depending on the amount of wheelspin that you get. Goes for pretty much all vehicles

    I almost never push my car to 6~7000 rpm.
    In the real world, I don't think that many people would be comfortable to push
    their family sedan or coupe to the red line.
    Thanks

    Good review. but we all know this car is much faster than its 0-60 time suggests. in a 40 roll, this accord would kill evo 10s and sti's. I know this because I have an Evo X, and the j series are not to be trifled with, especially top end.

  • @cinderella1861
    @cinderella1861 Před 7 lety

    It would be better to get into second gear earlier. That should eliminate some of the front wheel spin and give you a better 0-60 time.

    Stop reving so high......you're not getting enough traction!
    You should easily be hitting below the 7 sec. mark.....Maybe you should try to get the automatic, 6 cyl. coupe and let the car do the shifting.

    • @tonyiacona9060
      @tonyiacona9060 Před 9 lety

      +777PharmD777, Car and Driver got this car to 60 mph. in 5.6 seconds......I'm sure that was under the most perfect conditions however.......Dave should easily achieve sub 7 seconds without the wheel spin.
      Dave needs to relax a bit while attempting these 0-60 times......especially with the front wheel drive cars.

    • @tonyiacona9060
      @tonyiacona9060 Před 9 lety

      +777PharmD777 , I have never seen, or heard of a 0 - 60 mph...using a "rolling start".......Rolling starts are typically 0 - 60 mph, or 30 - 60 mph in an higher gear......so this is news to me.
      I have a friend with a 2013 v6 Accord coupe that achieves a 0 - 60 mph time of a low 6 sec. mark........consistently.
      The timing equipment he uses is the very same Solo DL Accelerometer that Dave uses......so I'm a bit curious of your claim. Can you please post a link to this information so I can learn more about it.
      Thanks.

      @tonyiacona9060 Před 9 lety

      +777PharmD777 Okay.....show me one source where you obtained this opinion.......CZcams is full of 0-60 runs and never once did I witness what you claim.
      I would just like to read/see it, so I can be better educated.
      Please post your source.....you must have read this, or watched a video somewhere.

    • @tonyiacona9060
      @tonyiacona9060 Před 9 lety

      +777PharmD777 , just watched three videos of folks with the same car, run 0 - 60 in 5.9........SOooo
      I already told you that my friends Accord runs to 60 in the low 6 sec. range and that's at elevation. Pretty much in line with most magazines claims.
      Personally, I own a Honda S2000 and a Toyota 4Runner.....both cars run to 60 mph and the quarter mile as posted by most auto magazines, usually within a few tenths of a second.
      So I'm going to research Edmunds however, with my own personal experience and the many CZcams videos available......I'm not making the connection with your claim.
      I will say that, you seem to be missing the point that Dave spins his wheels for at least a full second and a half during the runs....
      One other thing....what did you mean: "Your time, 7.7 seconds.." ?
      I have no clue what you meant by that comment.

    I think for this kind of power going to the front wheels, the automatic is the better option, at least is a 6 speed auto and not a CVT 😂, but I have to say, I have a accord v6 sedan 2015, is weird and cool that when I changed the exhaust of the v6 with the automatic transmission, you can hear the same cool fart sound when you upshift like a DSG transmission of Audi for example and is very cool coming from a Honda with the VTEC sound 😎
