- 2008 Chevy Avalanche tailgate won’t release, stuck closed, mechanism is still working but can’t open it. I was able to get it to open finally without taking off the spoiler, figured this might help others
I hope this works. I have had this problem for over a year. 3 days at the dealer- waste of time. Mechanics were saying i needled to take the spoiler off. I even joined the NACAFC. I'll let you know if it works.
Well that didn't work for me. Chevy dealership said $700+ to fix. Been gracing by, my taillight and blinker is out. Gotta get it fixed. Thanks anyway
Have a 07 and you don’t have to break out the plastic piece. Drill holes big enough and use Freeze Off spray in holes and freeze up the rust. Also works better than wd-40

I wonder if my truck has an actuator. I hate hearing the gate fall down while driving so I'll be adjusting the locking feature. I bought it used and the handle and covers were totally missing, so I built one out of welded stainless steel and fiberglass and aluminum, painted with tuff coat plastics. I built my own topper, with DeLorean wing doors over the saddle bags, now I can load the back with tools and camping gear on a slide out truck bed bottom. So I don't like hearing that sound.

Thanks very much! The 2007 and later is really hard to get to... I haver that plastic cover that keeps me from getting to the mechanism, now I see I just gotta remove it so I can get to the problem. These things are pretty sealed up!

Dude! this was helpful. I can not get the actuator arm to move at all. The red plastic piece you put in...did you have to get the hole on the arm onto the "hook" in that upper corner? And if so, what did you attach it with? I'm letting the WD40 do its thing for a few and will try again...
My question is how did you get to the rod that Wasn’t engaging??
