How Has Trucking Changed From 2023-2024? Our Numbers
Vložit
- Äas pÅ™idán 5. 05. 2024
- I decided to look at how trucking and the rate per mile/load rates have changed year over year for one of our trucks. I was pretty surprised at what I found, but you tell me your thoughts. Here, I will share what one truck in our company brought in: gross income, expenses, net income and rate per mile.

Be sweet if she would do this in a bikini
Great analysis of some really tough numbers. In 8 months my truck will be paid off. I am counting the days
Anybody remember when we used to pick a load run it get another run it get fuel and chrome and washes without counting every single penny and percentage 😎
Good times
13615 miles in April of 2024?!?!?!
Can you offer an insights into how this is possible?
And you are mostly I-5, correct? Amazing.
AND then you are still getting $2.65 per loaded mile, and that with the crap SPOT MARKET FREIGHT RATES?!?!
Thirdly, while your stratospheric $23K for April of 2023 is the BEST I HAVE EVER HEARD OF, your bottom line of $14234 for this April just passed puts your income at about double what i have, going all out in the SAME LANES, and i am getting CONTRACT FREIGHT!!
You speak about survival?
These numbers make your partner by far the most successful trucker in this market that i have heard of.
I pull 53’ step deck under my own authority and do my own dispatch. Trust me I feel your pain. It’s a down cycle and will get through it.
As owner operator ,thank you for understanding the truck driver
this is the first time I've heard a metric regarding time off (10 days off every 4 weeks). This is useful to me as I'm trying to figure out what a reasonable amount of time off should be (for 2024 I'm planning on taking 31-36 days off myself)
Everyone is different. Do what you need to, stay healthy and keep up your relationships :)
I've spent just over 60 grand in a 12 month period on major repairs. Now it's just trying to recover
As always Thank You for sharing...always appreciated.
Good to see you back. â¤ï¸
Great job as always. Thanks for your information
Great breakdown. Thank you.
Thank you for all your hard work and time Miss M.
Great video and very informative, thank you for your hard work ..
I appreciate your analysis and commentary. Very helpful
Excellent video
I don’t really relate to anyone struggling in the industry and there isn’t much I can be taught being a 3rd gen company owner but my god this lady is stunning I could sit and listen to you all day 😂
Thank you!
Girl it's getting so crazy right now ðŸ»ðŸ¥³
I share all Mirandas videos with all 90 agents of our Agency😀😀 its a must watch. Please keep the good work going. Thank you
I’ve been running this company truck like I own it and the fuel is really the part of the whole deal. I mean it mood swings you. Gotta worry about your fuel surcharge. A lot of things going on out here. People had to take in consideration. Thank you for your work though.😎💯🚛
Miranda, in an upcoming video, can you discuss factoring and what goes into it ?
Hi Miranda ur looking fabulous, agree in all u said u r on point, it doesn't get better than that, thats the way I run my business as u said at the end of the video and I make my numbers running hard 600-700 miles daily all over the state. Take good care of ur self and smile more often cause u got a beautiful smile 🥂🥂
GREAT episode! The human factor is not always easy but very necessary. Your business partner may want factor this in. While sacrificing for the company is noble, it comes at a cost and that cost is not always apparent in the moment.
Over 50% expenses that’s a huge risk I could say more like losses / if you could stay 40% expenses or lower you could be able to breath more and keep driver 3 weeks out 3-4 days off
That's the first time I've heard about "owner's draw". I had to rewind and hear the word again and look it up immediately, thanks. I should've been studying instead of watching a stupid horror movie that left me depressed but that's what unharnessed curiosity can do to somebody.
Looks like you guys did ok, considering current market conditions.
It really depends on your location. Is the town growing..? Do you have to travel far for your loads, is he/she still using a broker? Also this years been a nightmare for most of us. As long as you still have that "eye of the tiger go get em mentality " you're gonns bounce back , adapt and get your numbers back up .
nice as usual.
Been out of the game for awhile still hear about what's going on the industry bought my first truck when the market was not hot have a better life at home but weirdly ready to get back and deal whatever bs there figured if you can handle when it was tough back then you can handle it now
Well done, as usual Miranda. Off topic of this video but in my railing against the over capacity and invasion of our country in trucking and in general I experienced something a couple days ago proving my point. I’m playing steering wheel holder as I coast towards retirement pulling a company dry van. I was to drop Sunday at a major food manufacturer. Upon arrival the guard handed me a sheet of paper with the QR code smart phone access in 4 languages: English, Spanish, Russian and Arabic. 🤮enough said!
Very misguided and racist comment. The invasion and looting for america happened immediately after ww2. Your own politicians arent even loyal to “your†country. You are a number on a spreadsheet, filling the vital economic metric of labor. When our ruling class requires more labor, they open our borders for cheaper labor, further squeezing blue collar americans. We send billions of dollars in aid to zionist controlled israel and Ukraine, while you work 45 years to collect a $500/month social security check. Wake the fuck up, our politicians are all bought and paid for. We have been divided and conquered by the ruling class for a reason, they want you focused on stupid crap.
I hear you say that the driver had to use a junk truck. How do you insure a backup truck? I have an extra truck sitting here but i can't justify keeping everything current on it just for backup when new truck goes in shop
This is slightly discouraging to see. I just bought a truck Sunday, I’m starting the paperwork for my own authority and I’m surprised how little the profit was. I paid cash for the truck so I will have insurance and other expenses but no expensive truck payment. It really seems like I’ll have to sharpen my pencil to make this work. Love the truck though. Drove it from southern Oregon up I-5 to Spokane. Cat C12 with a 10 speed.
Salute 🫡 to you Ms info appreciate you
⤠the 💇ðŸ»â€â™€ï¸!! 😃
My income dropped 10k last year. Company driver.
I run a step deck , flatbed, southeast and my W'2 was 9000 less in 2023 than 2022, don't really look good for 2024.
Hey Miranda, Looking to get into the industry never drove a big rig however am 61 very careful driver no dui no accidents ever! no moving violations in 25 yrs do you suggest I wait to get started or could a carrier like Roehl be a good place to start
Miranda, could t find the broker bankruptcy video, however, not an attorney but has happened to me before.
Check date of bankruptcy filing. If you completed the shipping within 20 days of broker bankruptcy filing, you stand a great chance of complete recovery of debt. Check your state bankruptcy rules

Question: would you get an extended warranty on a used truck. The truck has 400,000 miles ?
Wow, its krazy I only did 14k for the month of April 2024.
7k fixed monthly expenses is insane
Why do you say that?
That's like three refuels plus extras per week for four weeks
@@NoName-ky2sb you don’t know what you’re talking about
@@wrld-zu9yt well then clarify instead of being a D.A.
@@NoName-ky2sb bro my monthly expenses for 3 trucks and trailers and insurance is 6k she’s paying 7k for 1 truck and trailer
The profit margin essentially got swiped away. Hamsters on a wheel. Go and tell someone you will be need to work harder next year just to have your income reduced by 25% 😳
Hello, what type of trailer are you discussing in this particular video, is this dry van?
I think she mentioned flatbed
If an owner pays driver salary ( $10k ) you will end up with $4300, and if you count the Value of your Truck going down month by month, you will probably end up even or losing on the current market
10k??? That would be nuts. Also asset depreciation can be written off when it comes to taxes.
@@douggimmedomeethere is not much use of writing anything off if the income is not there
@@i_am_thatguy1504 makes no sense. You pay taxes no matter what. Write offs just reduce what you have to pay in taxes.
ðŸ‘ðŸ™.. glad I'm retired !.
Do you guys use a factoring company? And if so why not secure a line of credit and do your own invoicing. I’m think about doing this would love your opinion!
We do use a factoring company- a line of credit is still debt. I am planning to be our factoring company interest free
Which software do you use to calculate all these numbers and graphics? Thank you 😊
Airtable :)
@@TruckingMadeSuccessful thank you for your feedback 😊
WE ARE NOWHERE NEAR THE BOTTOM. When your average rates drop below $1/mi - that’s what I would call a true freight recession. Until then…keep your drivers door closed and roll 🚀
Well…many loads don’t even pay that much anymore…we should call it DEPRESSION?
Many of yall would work for free because thats what you are used to overseas
@@legenda4341
You can’t call overseas….because in so many countries overseas, you can’t even afford to travel there 😂😂😂
I can make a huge list here with oversea countries ….that has a lot better living conditions than US….for instance so many countries in EU…maybe they don’t as much upfront numbers, but their quality of life is so much better…just Google and see the reality.
In fact US retirees can’t afford to retire in USA anymore…so they are moving overseas in order not to become homeless with income.
Now this is what I call American dream
@@RomeoUrsu-fy9qoShow me a load that pays less than a dollar 🦗🦗🦗
I’ve seen many people already hauling $1-$1.30 a mile
Hi Miranda what program are you using to keep track of your income n expenses. Fuel, repairs and costs in general 😎
Airtable!
@@TruckingMadeSuccessful Ty
Why don’t you haul reefer or dry vans? Because of low rates or expenses are higher for them than flatbed, I can’t understand this topic 😮
The rates are unmanageable for us
Hi there TMS, I just watched a video and the gentlemen said that it is possible to be a owner driver operator and a dispatcher at the same time, is this information correct? He said his is student has a multiple stream income, is making more money by doing both!
Yeah some do that. Anything is possible if you are able to manage the time
@@TruckingMadeSuccessful I did not think it was possible to be honest, but you proof me wrong. Thank you young lady!!!
Loadboard costs seem high
What the heck why the drop in monies ($$) even though there are a lot of drivers shouldn’t that be more loads going out?
So net is yearly net plz I hope you say no..
The net income you see is on a month by month basis- so over 23K net in the month of April 2023, and just 14K in the month of April of 2024.
@@TruckingMadeSuccessful thanks for the knowledge madam but I might believe someone single could maybe live with that pay
At the end of the day the conclusion is called BAD!
â¤â¤
these numbers only for 1 unit ? if s how many units u got in fleet ?
Yes, this just one. We have 4
HEY LETSSS GOOOOOOOO THANKSSSS🎉🎉🎉🎉
Not many people make 14K per month. I don't get why everybody keep saying it is bad times for truck drivers. Even considering you have to own a truck.
These brokers are getting out of hands, now if you are a PO carrier or O/O then its hard to get home because all this brokers wants you to return their trailer to the shipper after deliver and wont pay you for round trip . Once you are late returning their trailer, they charge you anywhere from 50 to 150 bucks per day . Insane huh
I have a truck and trailer for sell out of SC
There a lot foreign b1 mexican drivers doing this jobs for less on the road you only see double plate on trucks
Is this step deck rates ?
Flatbed
You should change the name of the channel to Trucking Made Stressful
I have 2 trucks "running" 2022 to 2023 my profit fell by more than half my gross went from 666k to 400k 2024 looking even worse.
I disagree with the doing you're own taxes. If you find the right CPA, that person will save you more money than what it costs to hire them. Not to mention their fees are written off as professional and legal fees. I pay about $1100 for consultations and filing taxes. Me personally, I focus on building relationships with clients and brokers and let my tax guy worry about the taxes. Same with my compliance team, let them take care of it and make sure I am compliant so I can get contracts.
FIVE months in to my authority, and I have a contract lined up with a media company that is going to pay me layover time whenever I am not hooked up to one of their trailers and far better than market rates.
The dream is still real. As you said Miranda, have some skin in the game. The whole driver not wanting to do something like go to certain parts of the country or tarp every day 🙄 respectfully offer that option but let them know, in order to accommodate these demands it will result in a lower pay or home time, so we can continue to make a profit.
Apologies, I meant the trucking taxes (IFTA, WDT, 2290) etc
🥂ðŸ¾ðŸ’¯
That explains why big successful companies don’t operate junk equipment. $45k…ouch!
1999 truck det series60 12.7 eaton 10 speed no ptoblems.
That is crazy as hell $4000 a month for a truck payment
I would be making my drivers shit. Their GPS is to no tolls that would save you a lot of money.
Almost a whole week worth of truck payment
It’s not that much longer to go non-toll road
Compared too toll roads
I worked for a company that refused to pay tolls and they kept sending me to Newark NJ
@@RussJAlan fun fun
Did you get a haircut?? Beautiful â¤ï¸â¤ï¸
I did :) thank you!
P.I.M.P. ….. relax miranda its a joke.
We are already aint making shit can we joke at least.
😂
Trucking industry will take at least 10 years to adjust. Now people are buying Trucks like crazy, because of the price is so low.
Is it still worth becoming a truck driver?…
I dont see how anyone can survive on their own in this market. Especially a 1 truck operation working off load boards. Thats just asking for bankruptcy.
Reefer van or flatbed
Flatbed

@@TruckingMadeSuccessful Lost my codriver while he sorts some issues out.
He should be back soon.
Running solo LTL extra board until then or will try for a solo bid run.
3 new 600 mile a day runs posted at my home terminal.
That will reshuffle the seniority board.
Would prefer to run team though.
If y’all spent $45,000 in 3 months imo that justifies a new truck payment.
just park it, folks
This is not going to get better unless we all unite and fight the corporations run by bean counters!
Have you ever heard of the concept opportunity cost?
Sure, You can save something by doing all the office work, dispatch, compliance. Or, like I do, You can train and pay a kid in India 400$ a month and He ll do all that, freeing up your whole time to do something else way more profitable than 400$. Same applies, athough to a lesser degree, to driving your truck. If You can do something more profitable than a truck driver salary, your opportunity cost is more than what you save, so it makes sense to delegate. And removing collision insurance? Right. Paid off the truck that is now worth 100k, have your driver smash it into a wall and now what?? Lost 100k just like that? Take that risk just to save a couple hundred per month? Lol
Oi 👋
There is no way the average driver takes off 10 days every four weeks
I didn't say average, I said my guys
Fire those lazy drivers, please.
Absolutely screwed in this Economy.
