My winning run @ Megavalanche La Réunion 2022.
After a long battle with Antoine Vidal I won my first Megavalanche ever.
The 22 km track starts at the top of Maido (2300m) and goes down to sealevel. Lava, rocks, jungle, highspeed, long pedalling,…

Dat binnendoor rijden was natuurlijk wel even een schitterende actie en ik was echt verbaasd dat hij Olivier daarna gewoon voorbleef. Ik dacht dat hij eigenlijk verder achter lag dus toen ie ineens van rechts hoppakee er zo weer voor kwam....Ik was echt verbaasd. Reed hij nu lek of is hij gevallen? Ik dacht gevallen maar kon 't niet goed zien. Fantastisch genoten weer. Ik hou van cyclocross maar met Mathieu zo goed is het saai (ik ben wel Nederlander, maar ben in principe fan van de beste in koers niet per se een landgenoot dus). Wout is minder nu. Dus kijken mijn vrouw en ik gewoon naar dit soort races en we vinden het echt van begin tot einde een genot! Mag dit niet Olympisch worden? Heeft Belgie meteen weer een topfavoriet!

Vanuit Nederland ook een diepe buiging. Schitterend gereden weer en wat een strijd. Vidal was wel beter op het laatste stuk maar nam net teveel risico vermoed ik. Die actie van hem op 35 minuten door dat veld was wel heel erg mooi! Ik moet eerlijk zijn dat toen ik zag dat hij steeds verder van je weg reed een mechanisch probleem vermoedde. Maar toch gevallen en je moet wel bljven staan. Je kon ook daarvoor al zien dat hij begin te pushen en pushen berg op, volgens mij zat je op je tandvlees. Maar goed doorgestreden!! Dit lijkt me ook echt wel iets voor Mathieu van der Poel en Tom Pidcock. Zeker Mathieu vind dit echt wel geweldig. Als Absalon het kon...
Thx! Klopt. Fysiek was het een echte battle. Ik reed met zwaardere en zachtere banden tov Vidal. Dus op de trapstukken kon ik maar net aanpikken. Op de gladde trails kon ik dan weer vlot volgen.
De laatste stukken liggen er ontzettend ruw bij voor je materiaal. Iets te snel en je hebt zowiso stukken.

That was an incredible race, I loved every second of it. Congratulations,but I wonder what happened at 17:37. Did you want to go left,because you forgot which way to go? Did you want to push the other racer out of the way or did the other guy push you out? Nonetheless I hope we are gonna have a video from this years edition as well. 🤘🤘

17 psi front, 19 psi rear. The Michelins are strong tyres, so they don’t need much air and I love riding low pressures .
I can block the rear suspension with the remote on my handlebar. 💪🔥

I don’t think the shortcut made a lot of difference, but it’s always a better idea to stay on the track.

The one in Alpe d’Huez had snow. This is the Megavalanche @ Reunion. The 2nd race of the year on the old vulcano. No snow there.

What a cheap shot Vidal did at @ 17:38. Totally unsportsmanlike. And at 35:30 - although the course isn't marked off, that was a cheat route. Karma caught up .
@ 17.38 it was my mistake. I tought the track was on the left side and Antoine wanted to go on the right side. The tape wasn’t there during the practice.

You could say that about any sport what if…… It’s the person who crosses the line first is the winner. It’s was a well won race, Olivier controlled the bike better, didn’t take sneaky shortcuts and was first over the finishing line, to suggest otherwise is really disrespectful
@@stevee8920 He did shake him. I counted the seconds and the gap was widening. From 1-2 s it became 6 s. But one thing: he only managed to do so because he took too much risks and so that is part of the game too. There is one winner and he won deservedly.
