    What do you think of these air deflectors?

    I've been debating adding the adjustable deflectors, just haven't yet.
    I will say though that I just added fork fangs and they work EXTREMELY well for the beard test, and the buffeting. A lot of guys aren't a fan of the look, but i can say first hand experience, if the buffeting, from wind blowing up your chest is a problem, fangs DO WORK . And i sort of like the look

    I’ve been using the factory deflectors for 5 years and they really help in the summer and I struggle with beard lift open or closed , put the hard lowers on it doesn’t increase heat very much in the summer just leave the vents open ride safe

    Got the EXACT same beard Mike.
    No windshield or fairing. Running with old school classic "buckhorns."
    My beard parts in the middle and blows straight back, no upsweep.
    I think with the apes and your hands being up above the fairing is creating a whirlwind effect?
    We know we're NOT going to loose the beards! Taller windshield, full face helmet, etc? Maby Brad Richards could hook us up at Ford"s wind tunnel in Detroit. We could do all kinds of experiments!

    I did the Advanblack batwing air deflectors, and I will say they definitely help when it’s hot out directing air towards me and when it’s cold out directing air away from me. I also run the Memphis shades, hand guards and they are an absolute blessing.
    My bars stick up over my bat wing so it keeps all the cold air off of my hands. I’ve run the hand guards 1/2” away from the ends of my clutch and brake lever. The closer you can get those guards to your hands the better they will work for ya!

  • @andromedach
    @andromedach Před 2 lety +3

    I had them on my Street Glide and found them very useful for reducing buffeting more than weather protection. From this angle it looks like you have taller bars which put your hands into the air flow more and that will negate a lot of use of heated grips. I found I could run lighter gloves but only if the fairing blocked the wind.
    I used hard lowers from Harley on my Road King and even left them on even when I did not run the wind screen. With the vents in the lowers I could keep the bike cool enough that it did not matter. I did buy my driver back rest off Amazon and that was fine... I can offer no advice on the beard problem

  • @ut1004bp
    @ut1004bp Před 2 lety +1

    Well for beard issues, I'm sure the fork deflectors and triple tree umbrella deflectors are a must but they will knock down some of your needed wind to the engine, and engine and oil temps will climb.. I put lowers on my to keep the annoying wind from shaking and rattling my legs, and they too will reduce wind passage to the engine.. all these thing will raise your engine temps.. so you should at least consider adding a fan driven oil cooler to help (I added the HD optional fan to my cooler). I'm thinking about adding these batwing deflectors though.. but I was also thinking your bike was a Road Glide

    I've used lowers before on my M8. Like your buddy, I have a 2-1 shorty pipe. The bike runs super hot in the summer time and I'm here in California where we can split lanes. If you can't split lanes or you get caught in traffic where you live, I wouldn't run them in the summer. Thanks for sharing this video on the deflectors. Maybe a taller windshield will help you out.

    I've run the fork deflectors and the scoop that goes between the triple tree along with what I call the dragon wings like you installed on this video. I actually like the look of the fork deflectors, it fills it out nicely and helps that little bit more. The scoop under the triple tree definitely helps with the updraft, and the dragon wings are mostly helpful to direct wind on me for hot days. Also you can play with them in high cross winds for aerodynamics.

    Ever try fork mounted wind deflectors? I was having a head buffeting issue on my Road King and after trying a different windshield with the curved tip and windshield vent(slight improvement), I installed the fork wind deflectors and no more buffeting, after installation I did however notice a reduced amount of wind around the engine and was concerned about engine cooling, I then installed a triple tree deflector/air baffle to direct more air to the engine, good luck and stay safe.

      I've tried the fork fangs and for me they are the most effective for beard lift so far. I've tried different windshields, lowers and the adjustable wind deflectors on the batwing. That being said I don't use them because they didn't completely stop beard lift and I wasn't crazy about the looks of them.

    As you saw them wings don't help, about all they'll do is give you more air when it's hot and deflect more when it's cold
    No windshield solves the beard problem, appears it is a problem for you, mine just points at the windshield, doesn't flop into my face
    When I rode a Kawasaki 900 classic I put a Memphis shades droptop windshield.......it forces some air toward you and sends the rest well over your head and cuts down on beard problems........even though it's not going in my face it tangles almost as bad as my hair if not tied
    So I got a cheapo wing for my ultra windshield and it helps........biggest help is wind noise
    I've been told, but don't know for myself, the windshield vent is best for cutting down that whip around wind

    Keeping your beard short would stop the beard interfering with your vision. Me I don't like any of my hair to move at all. It drives me nuts when it moves. So I keep my beard and hair relatively short but still shaggy lookin'. I never wear shorts for that reason. I put the coffin hand guards on my Road King for the winter of '20-21 and they did not help keep my hands warm. They were so ugly too, so when I got my bikes ready to ship when I moved, I took them off. I have heated gloves and they do not keep my hands warm in temps much below 50. They are a hassle to run the wires to the gloves. Where the come out of the jacket sleeves they let wind blow up my arms and into my jacket. They are much stiffer than regular gloves too.
