  • At the last-chance Olympic qualifier in Phuket, Thailand, we saw the greatest snatch battle ever, with seven attempts taken at 160kg or more between three legends. Rahmat Erwin Abdullah came into this competition as the world number one and the world record holder in the clean and jerk. Shi Zhiyong was the Olympic champion and world record holder in the snatch and total. Rizki Juniansyah was the chaser, the athlete who needed to shock the world and cause the biggest upset of the entire Olympic quad.

Loving the friendly rivalry between Shi and Rizki. Rizki clapped for Shi's 165 snatch and Shi hugged Rizki when he learned he was going to the Olympics.

My hope is that Rahmat doesn’t get discouraged by this. I hope to see him go ballistic in Bahrain at the worlds and beat everyone by 10 kg. IMO he is still the 2nd best lifter in the world.

If Rahmat rest 1 Minutes more ,He might C&J that 206kg .But Rizki beat Rahmat Fair and Square

If Rizki hadn't just come off of major sugery and had several months of no training, he probably would have done even better. But yeah, what Rahmat did was just a mental error. There's no doubt he was strong enough to make the 206.

I hated that, but at the same
Time it was cool to see Rizki prove to himself and everyone else that he can and did do it.

Rahmat prolly got used to only competing when he is most comfortable. He said himself he competes in B sessions because it is most similar to his training times and he is usually astronomically above the competition of the B session, considering he is one of the best in the A session. Overall, just a lack of preparation and training in competitions where he is taking big risks.

Shi’s back looks like the pepperoni pizza I just had with all those stimulus patches he’s wearing. Seriously I hope he gets healed better for Paris than how he was here. You see it even more in the cl & jks. I want to see an even fight between him and Rizki. If Shi is completely sound I give him a very slim edge; but he hasn’t been completely healthy in I don’t know how long. A year? Year and a half? 2 years? Remember if he gets gold he moves into an elite group of 6 with 3 Olympic golds.

@@jay17737 you're free to infer that, but it's a fact that this is the first session for Rahmat where he had to go against heavy hitters. It's a whole lot easier to hit your heavy lifts when you're following yourself in the B session.
