    When she says "rub me the right way" she doesn't literally mean to rub her down there the right way. It's kinda like that saying, "that dude rubbed me wrong." She simply means for the guy to get on her good side...treat her right...and theyll be together...emotionally AND physically.

      I think that's basically the way Christina would've justified it back then, yeah. Like, for example, Britney also said "I'm a Slave 4 U" was about being a slave to the music and, sure, for some, it might mean that, but the song and the beat and everything tell something else. And I think that's the same here. Christina could've even meant it that way, but because of how the lyrics are structured and honestly, also because of the music video and everything, it wouldn't be a far stretch to say they had the other meaning in mind when writing this song.

    • @raymondacosta4150
      @raymondacosta4150 Před 3 lety +3

      It has several meanings really. Also a third, rubbing the lamp the genie comes out of. It’s really cool how the song has layers to it, even though it’s a pop record.

    I was 30 when this came out in '99, so, um, yeah, totally knew what it was about. As a kid we all look back and can tell you songs that totally went over our heads...that's the way it should be. If your a kid hearing this and thinking Genie from Disney's Aladdin, that was good. Now, if it still goes over your head as an adult, that's when you should be scared.

    I was 4 when this song came out and I know for sure I was trying to sing along to it!🙈😂 To answer your question: Christina was 18 when this song came out!

    I went to some school function for my daughter when she was in kindergarten and they did a dance to Christina's song 'candyman' and I hadn't listened to the lyrics until that day and apparently the teacher hadn't either. Another song my kids liked was 'Take Me To Church' it's not about church, but sex. Took me a few times to realize what the lyrics were on that song as well.

    I still sing this song and I'm 32 now.

    LOL your realization of the lyrics has me dying. She was 18 and I was 21. And yes there was controversy over some of the songs and images that Britney and Christina put out b/c of their age. I think it's why they tried to keep Christina's wardrobe on the younger looking side. But we all heard those lyrics and were like uhhhh, hello we know what it means!
