With the Lok Sabha 2024 elections just around the corner, many in Tamil Nadu seem to perceive this poll as an ideological fight between Dravidianism and Hindutva.
The Dravidian ideology is based on Periyar EV Ramasamy’s teachings of social justice, equality and Tamil nationalism. Periyar who is widely known as 'Thanthai' Periyar is the Father of the Dravidian Movement. He lead the self-respect movement that rejected caste, religion, regressive gender norms and Hindi imposition. The Hindutva ideology, which is in stark contrast to the anti-caste and anti-religious principles that Dravidianism stands by, is based on Sarvarkar’s idea of Hindu Nationalism, wherein, he discredits Christians and Muslims of not being true Indians unless they renounce their faiths- which he claims are ‘Non-Indic.’

We Tamilians are not saying DMK is an honest party. We are only saying BJP is not worth as a replacement.
I do not belong to any party. But, I studied at Govt school so I learnt periyar and Anna and more leaders who were in battle for tamils. So, we strongly follow the Dravidian model.
DMK justifies equality among people, where as hindutva is not on the same page. There is no equality in hinduvtva. This is a divide in RSS as everyone knows. Hinduvtva was started by LK Advani for political purpose, there was no proper idealogy. The DMK idealogy was started due to the wrong dealogy of the RSS.
We will fight against whoever is against our culture, language and unity till our last breath. TN has the highest number of hindu temples in the whole world. If Dravidianism spreads to all South Indian states, then Dravida Nadu (or whatever name for South India separate country) will be bound to exist. And I am NOT saying this is a bad thing, considering how much neglection has happened with South India since independence.
Being a non Tamilian living in Tamil Nadu, I agree, even though religion and spirituality are very much part and parcel of the life here, their culture identity and everything else is their language-Tamizhu❤ And no wonder, its a lovely language and it has survived all through these years and stayed relevant because of the love for their language.
