"Carl Sagan" by Reina del Cid

This is a song I wrote a while back and posted an early version to TikTok and Instagram. It's meant to capture both the loneliness and the inter-connectivity of social media. Also, in case you can't tell, I'm a huge fan of Carl Sagan. :) We sent this over to all the digital platforms early this morning so it should be up in the next couple days if you'd like to be able to buy or stream it. Lyrics and credits below!

Lyrics:
Hey
How are you?
Are you scrolling alone inside your room
Is your heart good
or did something go and break it?
Well in the words of Carl Sagan
we're all just stars and bacon
that's not quite what he said
but it's true
Hey
You're still here
Are you like me
on this app so you can be
lost and numb
in a warm bath made of content
watching brilliant bits of nonsense
because it feels like making contact?
Or maybe that's just me
How are you?
We are billions and billions
of lights reaching out
from a satellite just to know
that feeling
that even
when we're cold and on our own
we're not alone
not alone
Hey
Are you alright?
Are you scrolling alone again tonight?
You'll be fine
even if your heart is breaking
You've got me and Carl Sagan
and his famous postulation
that if we're all alone in space
it'd be an awful waste
so I'm just signing to say
How are you?

That was great! Perfect microphone setup, very good tune ...
I think Carl would’ve loved this song. I hope it gets billions and billions of likes. And, we are starstuff. The world is full of wonder.😊😊
No compliment or words of praise could ever do these ladies justice. Thank you Reina, Toni and all of their back up musicians
Carl Sagan? You got me could. That guy was real. His spirit is needed so much. Thanks
Loving the increased amount of original music. As great as ever
Lyrics for the hard of hearing, please.

Im a Class of 1978 alumnus of the Bronx High School of Science so of course this song makes my heart leap. Who would write two songs like Einstein 1905 and Carl Sagan ?
Nobody else except for Reina del Cid! You guys hit another home run with this video/song lyrically and musically....it's so clever and tender all at once....yet another reason why im so happy and proud to be a CIDIZEN. God bless you and keep the originals and covers coming. 😊❤you are truly truly truly stars🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you for saying “alumnus” and not “alumni.”
When people say the latter, it drives me nuts :)
@@GreenMountainVelvet
Same here
Toni and Elle, I think Dr. Sagan would have liked your song. You know how to make a grown man cry!
A song called "Carl Sagan"? You guys just got infinitely cooler! Thanks for your music and general awesomeness!
"The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light." ~ Carl Sagan
I know the quote… nevertheless… in the context of Reina… I am beyond words and in tears. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to post this comment/quotation. It's awesome. Could you please give me a citation/source?

You have no idea how much i needed to hear this song. I named my son Sagan after Carl Sagan, I have Covid and have to quarantine so I'm without my fiance, my baby, and my Sagan. Every single part of this song hits hard, thank you!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hope you're doing better.

This is why I've followed Reina del Cid for years. Beautiful and wise music that's joyful. Thank you.
Happy Sunday morning, all! Hope you enjoy this new tune called “Carl Sagan." It's about both the loneliness and the connection that we can get from social media. And in case you couldn't guess, I'm just a huge fan of Carl Sagan. :)

😀😀
Love the song - and that the engineer for this is named James Kirk.
🖖👽
Thanks Reina for another beautiful song! ✨✨🎶 It should be included in the next "Voyager Golden Record"! 🚀🛰
Good luck and good vibes on your big tour! 🎶🎤🎸🪕🥁🔊🎵
Her songwriting is out of this world.
I miss him so much. Beautiful song - thank you
There is such a truth to this.... literally been doing this for months. But I do love the light and connection that you both share.
Sht I'm crying almost every time I listen this sweet warm pie for ears🥹🥹🥹
I stumbled across your music via your version of Tupelo Honey. I have been in this songwriting music gig for almost 30 years and I have found that my favorite part is not always playing shows, but discovering bew music and finding inspiration from it, and i found it. I would give the cliche line of keep it up, but I can tell you will. And I am stoked to see what you come up with.
I loved Carl Sagan. Great song.
This is exactly what we need today. Love.
Reina and Toni at their best..... perfect
Gosh - a song that actually says something.
youtube is truly such a DARK fucking place. We've all been lost scrolling alone late at night. (I'm literally doing it right now)
But then there's Reina, Toni, and Carl...
They put the tiniest glimmer of starlight, glimmer of hope back into such a dark fucking world. Songs like this are the reason to continue to watch the world burn until the bitter end.
This song is beautiful beyond words or measure.
Instant like!
I stumbled on this channel months ago after finding the "Dancing in the moonlight cover ", and quickly became a fan of "Sunday Mornings".
Just here to say this song is beautiful. love it. huge Carl Sagan fan. Keep on killin it.
This song is equal parts brilliant and compassionate. I think Carl would have loved it. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
Best song ever! And I’ve been an obsessed Beatles fan for more than 50 years! Lol
The Beatles would have adored this song.
Carl Sagan would’ve been over the moon with that one. Beautiful song that has put my head in a nice place. Thanks.
Well I didn't expect to feel so personally exposed, but it came with an excellent catharsis, so I ain't complaining. Loved it!
I love your music. We will all get through this. One way or another. But what a loss to the world when he passed away. Everyone should listen and learn and embrace what this man had to say. If only our leaders had a fraction of the integrity as Sagan, oh how the world would change.
Almost all of people who I have ever known that they didn't know who Carl Sagan was. I was so sad but I value every single thing that he did for the Earth 🌍. I still listen to "Pale blue dot".
I am a cancer patient. I'm glad to hear this song. Thank you. I'm listening from Japan.
You should release all your space songs on one CD.
What a great man to write a song for. I am going to binge Cosmos now❤❤
an instant classic and thoroughly modern.
Beautiful song.
I love Carl Sagan. 🎶❤️🎶
This is simply one of the finest songs they have produced together. I do hope that as one of the other commentors has mentioned that they haven’t pushed themselves too hard. Elle and Toni making music together so much more than the sum of the parts. Long may they work together, and give pleasure to millions that follow them
This may very well be the most beautiful thing on the internet
beautiful song about a great person and his belief in the stars. We connected to something so beautiful that's the universe.
This song was such an act of kindness. Thank you.
Sheer truth, Carl! Thank you Reina for warming our cold universe of borrowed patterns and alienships...
I love the melody, the lyrics, basically everything about this track. This star loves you Reina!❤
Just plain beautiful! Thank you all!
Another fantastic song … “If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe” ~ Carl Sagan
Evolution is just the Earth's way of producing plastic.
C'mon Internet, give this some love! This is wonderful.
Super you're awake, love you! big hug of light🤗☀👽💓
Brings me back to the “Pale Blue Dot” ❤
Nicely done 😊
Coool Reina! Happy Sunday!
This song is a little gem in this cold space.
Reina, I love how you weave space into your lyrics.
The song breathes!
"When you make the finding yourself, even if you're the last person on Earth to see the light, you'll never forget it." (Carl Sagan)
What a great song!!! One of the best orginal songs Ive listened to in years. Thanks a lot I really enjoyed it.
A beautiful song of friendship for the digital age. I like these two more with each song.
Absolutely brilliant.
Completely adore this. Have posted it on astronomy Facebook groups I belong to.
awesome, Need More Please, Thanks
It's a winner. Like a Grammy award winner. It's special in all aspects.
Wonderful chord progressions, completely beautiful as always.
Love you both. Don't ever break up.
So amazing. Thank you.
Songwriting at its finest! Freaking brilliant and poignant. Thank you for sharing your talents.
I hereby shall never admit this song moved me to tears of grief, loss, and then of happiness. Also, the back lighting is absolutely immaculate. Also… Toni, with her guitar, absolutely speaks.
This is a lovely song 😢
I just found this song yesterday since then it's been on my repeat
We are not insignificant. We are strangely unique and we are not alone. Thanks this awesome song to add to my morning playlist.
This is of a quality that generates radio airplay.
Such a lovely song. So is 1970. The whole Candy Apple Red album is just a treat. Do yourself a favor, and catch these ladies on tour - it’s a great way to pass an evening. 😃
What a wonderfully gentle song.👍
We are all made of stars and bacon... Reina and Toni are made of stars, and I'm made of bacon. Lovely as usual!
Beautiful arrangement! Can't wait to see you all on Friday night in LA
Transcendent. Beautiful work of art.
Love the fact that you've written a song about Carl Sagan and what a great song it is!
Brilliant Thankyou would love to see you in the uk👍❤️👌🏻
Many write songs, many are popular for three days, but your songs will be eternal ❤
Fantastic lyric:
just to know
that feeling
that even
when we're cold and on our own
we're not alone
not alone
The more I listen to your lyrics, the greater I appreciate you. Both of you.
This is really pretty. Can I say also that in addition to lovely harmony and whatever else yada yada...these guitars sound great together. They sound like friends. ☺️
A wonderful duo you two make. Very accomplished at the guitar and vocals.
Thank you both.
Any day I hear Carl’s name is a great day!
“its not quite what he said but its true.”. Love it. Thanks again. Great work.
I listen to your mixes every morning while I exercise. This morning after a Blessed rain with the patio door open my Robins are chirping along with your music as if they are musically connected. They usually only chirp when we get close to their baby nest. I would suggest that the music of Reina del cid is organic enough to appeal to birds and bees.....
:-)
So you already have a hit for the next album - I'm looking forward to Prague
WOW! Reina, what a sweet song. Toni, you're the genius of accompaniment.
Lovely song
Love it. I"m imagining an orchestral arrangement of this beautiful song. ❤
Three people I am a huge fan of united in a song: Reina, Toni and Carl Sagan. Everything is great here.
the chorus came in like a punch in my stomach, im speechless, absolutely love it
sweet and lovely song
Love her deep register, and a double bass always make me do a double take....very special. 👍🧡💕🌱
That was very nice. I, too, am a Carl Sagan fan. RIP, Carl.
Made me cry.
10/10 great song. This is beautiful :D Been a fan since the earliest of youtube days and glad to see you're still doing amazing work.
A terrific song..even Paul Simon would be proud!
Carl spoke of science as "a candle in the dark".
I think this can be said of music as well. The light it casts is different but equally infinite and amazing.
Amazing song. Thank you so much for sharing so much of love! We are indeed billions and billions of lights. Shine on, great people ❤️❤️❤️
Just wanted to say your original songs are getting better all the time. It's just a matter of time before one hits it big.
As someone who’s only tattoo is pale blue and very small, this was incredible to listen to
Don't know what this means, but how are you?
@@TKevinBlanc Carl Sagan was in charge of certain aspects of the voyager missions. When Voyager 1 passed by Saturn he begged nasa to turn it around and snap a photo of earth.
The Earth ended being a tiny speck in the photo, barely a pixel. It was this photograph that inspired his book “Pale Blue Dot”. That book, one of his last, spoke volumes about how humanity is too much alike to hate one another, and how we all, all of us so far, have only lived in this one place together.
I discovered Sagan's books in my teen years, and neve really stopped thinking about his writing. This song is awesome. Thank you.
