My hats off to the late great BUDD ELLISON, that dude was an amazing musical director for Patti.... if she felt it then he road the wave and takes her where she’s sure to go! Such an in sync duo! Electrifying!!!!
So so true about Budd! Man knew every note four bars before Miss Patti was going to hit it and led the band in that direction! Always loved seeing him stand up from the piano to lead the band while he kept playing with the other hand! He's truly missed.
Yes and he was very kind to her obsessed fans kindly hinting where you might see her or truthfully letting you know she had left the building! What a talent he was, energetically and musically getting Patti to the sing with the Angels 50 thousand feet above us. He kept that band tight and professional onstage.

@@nesq4104 Patti, Whitney, and Aretha just shouldn't be compared to any modern singer, it's not fair. In the 90s the technical acuity across the board in music took a hard reset (it was needed) but then the advent of digital recording didn't give the next generation of singers a chance to fail because you could "fix" things.
The trailblazers before them not only had to basically nail it in the studio, but icons like the 3 I mentioned had to fight through a lot of adversity.

It brings a HUGE TEAR to my eye. Seeing Luther and Patti like this together. She loved him SO SO MUCH and vice versa. We truly lost an icon and vocal phenom when he passed. I know it affected Patti tremendously. Everyone knows or should know now that he was gay and he struggled with that big time. Patti knew and his closest friends of course. But that doesn't take away from the wonderful human being and artist he was. I love ya Luther miss you VERY MUCH. Being a singer myself you and Patti both have brought me A LOT of inspiration to the gift of voice the lord blessed me with.

@@BigWhiteBoyLuvsPatti .....LOL..that was a very magical night in black culture....i went through just about every emotion so strongly....she is so blessed and present....and she has such a sense of stagecraft and spontaneity....i have seen her several times live ...and she just....gives herself permission to do and be ....whatever she wants to...and to see several cultures in the audience just ....respond to her just scream and holler at her to just....release herself....i just love her ....she is a manifestation of power and movement and drama.......voice....and hair...smile....and pumps....

This brings back so many memories. I was 13 and remember this Arsenio special like it was yesterday. Even the commercials has gotten me teary eyed.
