  • Use a level correctly to get accurate results. Good practices are the same for spirit levels, bubble levels, box levels, carpenter levels, or torpedo levels.

    I feel you somewhat said it and somewhat contradicted it but I feel that a longer level can also be less accurate than a shorter level if it, for example, touches the one high spot on a board - when the shorter level wouldn't have. Therefore, you should be fine to use a high quality short level as long as you are confident that the surface you place the level on is flat and representative of the plane that you are trying to level. Also, I think many, if not, most experienced tradesmen don't understand this concept - as it's a common misconception.
    IN OTHER WORDS: if you are leveling an object that you consider to be perfectly flat (likely manufactured), a short level is just as accurate as a long level (assuming that both levels are in good condition).

    At 4:00 in the video you explain how if the outer edge of the bubble aligns with the second mark on the bubble that shows a 2% grade. What is the meaning of the first mark closer to the center?

    Cool. Kewl. Glad I looked up. I did not know the close 1 eye trick. If doing a shed floor do I need carpinter 1 or can I get by on a small hed w/a little one of picture frame?b I do not want to spend a lot & also, cuz gotta buy the plywood, gloves, etc poor so hope you can help. I had think knew of this b4, but had forgotten they are different plus carpinter is longer so less measure time etc. oh well if I must or ask if can borrow.

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 3 lety

      I would go with the carpenter level. The small one will not be accurate for that kind of work.

    What does 10 and 20 mean on my level? I thought it was degrees, but there's no way, as I have the level a small fraction of an inch off the counter and it hits the 20. So what does 10 or 20 mean? 1.0 and 2.0 degrees? That'd be weird.
