- Lodged between the majestic Santa Ynez hills and the mighty Pacific Ocean, Santa Barbara County is a lot more than its marquee wave, Rincon, aka the “Queen of the Coast.” It also has about a half dozen other world-class righthand pointbreaks in its corduroy pockets - as well as numerous options just south. In fact, it wouldn’t be a stretch at all to call SB the most powerful surfing kingdom in the continental United States (even without the “Surf City” moniker).

I moved to La Cumbre in 2001, and I tip my cap to the locals in Santa Barbara. You guys are some of the classiest dudes in the water! I loved how no one cared I wasn’t a local, I followed protocol and all was good in the lineup.
Thank you for making my short but amazing stay on the Left Coast so epic 🤙🏻
The crowds at Rincon are gnarly.
Whats worse is the caliber of surfer is really good. Not like the Bu where half are kooks to paddle circles around.

For any one that care's i was born in s.b. in 53' , grew up there and ventura, so i love both homes,i worked for the county of ventura, if you all will study the legal boundary maps for both counties, you will see the fact is that the county line is both at the small creek at the ocean and above at the freeway and at the bridge creek rincon from the creek and towards the inside sections are ventura.

Well, Santa Barbara county. This is past Carpinteria - the last town in SB county heading South. Rincon Beach Park is so close to Ventura county you can surf to their beach.
Right SB gets all the credit and local brahs but Venturas literally way closer. You guys got the dopest sand bars

No Curren? Nobody has surpassed his style, grace, timing and ability to read the wave perfectly in Santa Barbara he is still #1 best surfer in California in his prime nobody has surfed Rincon better.
I'd have to say Bobby Martinez is a close second....in my humble opinion

I think Dane is better and rips harder, but that's just my shitty opinion. Bobby definitely was the finest goofy in his prime and he still goes hard.

IMHO Bobby surfs like a penguin. With a stiff hunched over posture and waddling along down the line with short stiff arms… I’d nickname him the Penguin… maybe Smiley the Penguin…? At least he’s happy. Maybe Happy Penguin…?
Great analogy, and I've been saying this for years!!! Great surfer no doubt, but one of the best goofy foots ever?!? Hardly! In my opinion, along with a penguin, his style also resembles one of those small remote control surfers people play with from the beach. Again, while I agree he is a great surfer, I never understood why almost everyone claims he is one of the all time greatest goofy foots???? NO WAY!
