LPN to RN

  • More and more LPNs are also choosing to further their careers through LPN to RN degree programs. There are two options depending on the degree you want to earn on your way to qualifying for an RN license: LPN to ADN tracks that can be completed in as little as one year, and LPN to BSN programs that take about two years to complete. There are LPN to BSN bridge programs accredited online which is a great option for many students.
These nurses have more responsibility for patient care and many make 50 percent more than LPNs. With the high demand for skilled nurses, bridge programs are a popular option for LPNs wanting to advance their career and become registered nurses. These programs can be taken at a local college or university but many schools offer online options.
Tips for the LPN to BSN bridge program
As mentioned earlier, nursing programs are very competitive. To be accepted and complete the program, you need to remember a few things.
    - In most programs, you can decide how many classes you want to take. This will also determine how soon you receive your BSN. A full-time student in the bridge program can take two to three years. If you have work and family obligations, you may take longer. However, make sure you get credit for your on-the-job and academic credit. This will allow you to save money and finish the program sooner.
    - You will take a variety of courses as you complete your BSN along with the demanding nursing curriculum. If you are a person who is not disciplined enough to study or if you don’t like school, this program may not be for you. In most programs, you can decide how many classes you want to take. This will also determine how soon you receive your BSN. If you have work and family obligations, you may take longer.
    - Apply early for financial aid. Some nursing bridge programs are expensive and even though you may be working while you attend school, you may need help to pay for the program.
    - When searching for an accredited LPN to BSN bridge program online - make sure they have either Accreditation Commission For Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation. It should say this on their website.
    From LPN to MSN
Even if you’re staring out with an LPN certificate, you can take advantage of a bridge program and shortcut the path to earning a Master of Science in Nursing. Still, there’s no way around the fact that you’re going to need to an RN license before being able to enroll in an MSN program. The most direct path to accomplishing this would be to enroll in an LPN to BSN program, earning your RN along the way, before then going on to enroll in a separate MSN program.
Alternately, you could complete an LPN to ADN program to qualify for your RN, then go on to enroll in a separate RN to MSN program.
The MSN you earn will have a specific focus in an area that aligns with your career path.

Taking vital signs, dressing the patient and bathing the patient?? Yes those are called CNA tasks, not an LPN’s. As an LPN here is a more likely scenario for you. Passing medications, performing wound care, administering oxygen and nebulizer treatments, communicating with doctors, observing your residents to make sure their condition does not change or deteriorate. You will also be completing admission paperwork which takes forever, be in touch with the pharmacy, and making sure specific labs are done for your residents. $20-$22 an hour is low. I would not take a nursing job for this low amount of pay. I’m not sure about other nursing jobs, but where I work I am on my own at night. So I am supervising my CNA. No one is supervising me

Exactly! You took the words right out my brain. Idk what she’s talking about lol I do everything the RN does at my job, and the pay she mentioned is low. I wouldn’t even take the job!🤷🏽‍♀️😊

It just depends on the type of facility that you’re referring to, from my experience she’s describing an LPN’s role in a magnet hospital where the RN is supervising the LPN and the LPN have a limited scope of practice. There may or may not be a CNA or tech, if there is the LPN can delegate to them. The LPN will make much less money than they would in a residential facility like a nursing home, where the RN is more of a paper pusher than part of patient care.

LPN here from Massachusetts. The lpn at the nursing homes do mostly everything except for washing and dressing. The CNA'S did that part but when I could I would help out. Plus, it was a perfect opportunity to do a head to toe skin assessment. I think it depends on the state and facility. Plus, in the beginning of nursing school you are given a patient that you washed, dressed, and assessed. We do our own vitals in the nursing homes. The hospital has the CNA'S do them. I prefer to do them myself. I have worked in a facility where you had to help wash and dress plus the rest of the responsibilities as an LPN...I didn't mind, but then they started scheduling some of the LPN's as CNA's with LPN pay...not what I signed up for. I worked 4 times a week. They had me 2 days as an LPN and then 2 days as a CNA. Not to mention being on call once to twice a week. I left that ridiculousness. Again, I have no problem helping out but I stopped being a CNA for a reason...to get my LPN and because being a CNA is back breaking.

Regarding pay, in 2015 I started off as a new nurse at $18.50. I didn't know better and thought this was great because it was $7 more than what I made as a CNA 😅 Other places offered $20 for new nurses. Before I left nursing a couple of years ago (Fyi: I'm going back the end of this year) they offered me $30. Agencies offer way more depending on experience. So with this video being 6 yrs old the pay rate was pretty much on point with the starting pay. Again, it depends on the state you live in.

In Canada, the LPN program is 2 years and we perform most nursing tasks including wound care, head to toe assessments, patient teaching, O2 therapy, IV insertion, hang/run IV medications (but no IV push meds), injections including insulin, transcribe MD orders, chest tube drainage, and in community we can perform care for PICC lines. Our scope is very big and we're paid anywhere between 26 and 33 dollars per hour depending on where we work. Just so there's some proper education for those thinking all we do is take vitals and do personal care... it's a good path for some people.

Some LPN Programs can last up to 2 years, also an ADN Program can last up to 3 years, and a BSN Program can last up to 5 years.

I need a video like this one so badly, it's so well explained and the information is straight to the point. I would suggest to get rid of colorful backgrounds since they could be distracting and go fore more neutral colors. Other than that, thank you and keep up the good work!!

    • @nurseroseonthego2464
      @nurseroseonthego2464 Před 6 lety

parmar vraj to obtain your license to work as a nurse the NCLEX is mandatory..NCLEX- PN for LPN and NCLEX-RN for the Register nurse. The best thing is to contact the nursing bureau in Canada to call to find out the exact requirements. I research and find the following for you, hope this helps. Good luck, let me know.
