  • Back out on the range today to shoot the Dayattherange.com 22LR challenge. While doing so I will compare the likeness of the Eley Semi Auto Benchrest Precision and the SK Semi Auto across the chronograph and on target.
    Rifles:
    Volquartsen 10/22 Snake Flute
    CZ 455 Varmint
    Got a little long winded and preachy today trying to explain how I conduct these and other test LOL.

    Without looking at any other posts (!) just looking at the targets and chrono data, the “winner” is the Eley.......no question in this scenario, even in the semi posh rifle the Eley was the more consistent ammunition. Having said that both makes had serious flyers! When I was growing up in the 60’s I belonged to my village 22 rifle club with 3 teams, two of which shot nationally, the ammunition we shot then was Winchester super X subs and as far as I can remember never had flyers. The average score for the A team was 98/99-100 at 25yds, I still have that rifle a BSA Martini action! Thank you for your time putting up these excellent videos, much appreciated. Kind regards from across the pond Clive.

    Thank you for the video. My information has Ely as a UK product; SK is a German product. Ely has a wax lubricant; SK has an oil lubricant. I have SK Long Range 22lr and Lapua Center X 22lr with the same markings on the brass of each: I understand from others that Wolf 22lr brass is also marked the same.
    To my point: I have found only one process on 22lr that shrinks target MOA at 50-100 yards (no wind helps). That process is ensuring that the 22lr driving ring(s) are as close to perfectly round as can be obtained via a resizing die. I use a Neil Waltz die that reshapes the 22lr driving ring(s) to 0.225 inches. Consider: You mentioned how you clean a rifle to avoid damaging the crown which would affect MOA negatively. Now using the same logic, if the bullet is not as close to round as it can be made to be, AND the diameter is not sufficient to positively engage the rifling, what do you think the effect will be on MOA?

    As always, great video.
    My Kidd heavy barrel shoots the Eley SA Benchrest absolutely lights out. CenterX is the only thing that comes close, but the Eley Benchrest is always better. The Eley shoots fantastic at 50 AND 100 yds. what's with those VQ rifles? I haven't seen a vid where they shoot very well.

    I recently also got some of the sk semi auto. So far in my 10/22 it shoots great ,one jagged hole at 30 . From sk standard that I used to shoot the semi auto is a bit faster. So far I'm impressed bit still need to get more rounds down the tube to get a real good feel for it .

    Wolf 22 target is made by SK in Germany. Eley has partnered with Remington for high quality 22lr ammunition. some of the various 22lr match uses powder that smells like burning anti-freeze, indicating that the powder is a petroleum based powder.

    Nice surprise to bring out the cz. The Eley out of the cz shot decent groups. My concern is the point of impact change (if you didn’t adjust scope). What do you attribute that to? Bedding issue?

  • @michaelpino6874
    @michaelpino6874 Před 2 lety +1

    Try checking the rim thickness and weight of each round. I have been doing this and found that it does make a big difference in group size

  • @artfulalias3984
    @artfulalias3984 Před 2 lety +1

    Its an entertaining comparison. The SK Auto shoots well in the 1022 clone. The Eley Benchrest Match is probably not worth it for that gun at that range. But the Chrono reveals they are not the same ammunition. The Eley Benchrest Match has much more consistent velocity. There are some important unmeasured variables like rim thickness, overall cartridge length, projectile mass, bullet concentricity. If those are equally consistent, then in a bench rest gun, and especially at longer ranges, the Eley Benchrest Match might very well hold together when the SK Auto starts to open up.

      @jimhamilton3544 Před 3 lety

      I have tried several brands of RWS Target ammo in my CZ455 & AnschutzMPR64 and didn’t have any good groups. It really shows how different ammo shoots completely different in different rifles even the same make of rifle. I look at the RWS Boxes ( gold boxes), and they are the best looking of any .22 ammo boxes !😂😂😂

    I realize this was 3 years ago, so hopefully SK has "fixed" this issue. It seems to me that their velocities are hovering right around the transonic range, which confuses me as to what this ammo is actually for. Maybe dinner plates at 25 yards?

    • @rem40x308
      @rem40x308 Před 3 lety

      When testing loads or 22lr lots. The one thing to eliminate is any obstruction that's going to interfere with the stock riding the bags. Having a good bedding and a free floated barrel is a major plus. Minimal to no cheek contact on the stock and the slightest grip on the stock. What you want is consistency. I shoot a 6mm ppc build by Gary O' Cock . Stolle Grizzly II with a McMillan Edge stock. And a lot of practice. And a good trigger.
