Steamboat, CO: Sunshine Express - Take 2

- This Poma Challenger high-speed quad started its life as Tombstone Express at the Canyons portion of Park City in 1997. In 2006, it was moved to Steamboat to replace the Sunshine triple, reusing the tower tubes in the process. Back on the Canyons, the original high-speed quad was replaced with a Doppelmayr-CTEC high-speed six, and that lift reused the Poma tower tubes. This was the last project under ASC before Intrawest. Overall, it is usually a quick ride and a great place to lap with wide-open trails and tree shortcuts. There are 115 chairs and 21 towers. In this video the lift was going slower at 750 fpm in actuality, but the video is sped up to 800 fpm.

This lift will likely be replaced with a Leitner-Poma high-speed six in 2025.
Well that Doppelmayr CTEC 6 was Tombstone Express at Park City
according to lift blog, this lift may get replaced by a leitner poma 6 pack for the 2025/26 season :(
@@DeltaChairlifts5 Steamboat hasn’t announced anything yet, so I’m not sure if that’s confirmed. Maybe they’ll say something in the fall like Copper did with Timberline.

They may be on to replacing this in the next couple years however still too early to tell.
Right now that seems to be the plan afaik, but time will tell.

Just uploaded a lift ranking to steamboat there are 11 lifts in the video of the ones I rode can you guess what place this lift was in and can you guess what lift was in 1st place as the best lift?
That’s a good list! I don’t necessarily agree with Sunshine’s placement, as on most days lines won’t be longer than five minutes, and the lift doesn’t slow down or stop so much. My next challenge for you would be to check out the rest of the lifts you didn’t get to (Storm Peak, Morningside, Pony Express, etc), but be warned: some of the lifts serve difficult terrain, especially Mahogany Ridge. Stay tuned for a Steamboat ranking on my end, with 17 lifts! Yes, I am counting both sections of Wild Blue Gondola as one lift, and I won’t be including the Wildhorse Gondola on my list.
@@TwinSkiingLiftsRidesok I just didn’t like sunshine because of the lines and everything was happening too fast to really experience it but as I said when I go back to steamboat and if I ride this more I might get to put this higher on the list
@@Sterlingclub24 That’s fair. I have noticed Sunshine has gotten busier in recent years, so it’s not as high on my list as my previous ranking. I’ve ridden Sunshine many times, and there weren’t any lines longer than 5 minutes the past few times I was a the Boat. Just know that because of my school schedule, I have limited ski days as previous seasons.
